Buffalo ‘Compentsa’ green gingham wedges, £40.50

Green AND gingham print AND a little flower on the toe? Where have these been all my life, I wonder?

Actually, I don’t need to wonder: they’ve been on the Sarenza website, and they’ve been there for quite a while now, which means that:

a) It’s a travesty that I haven’t featured them until now.

and

b) Not all sizes are still in stock: sorry.

If you’re in luck with the size thing, however, you’re also in luck in a number of other ways, because these are a great example of a summery wedge sandal. The cork sole and gingham uppers give them a bit of retro-inspired appeal, while the slim straps on the slingback heel make them just a little bit different from all of the other wedges out there. Finally, the price is pretty attractive, too: they’re just £40.50, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll have the cost-per-wear down to mere pennies in no time, making them even more of a bargain.

What to wear with green gingham wedges?

I’ve resisted the impulse to answer this question with the words, “MORE green gingham”, but that’s really just because I couldn’t find any I liked. I did, however, find a high-waisted green pencil skirt, and used it as the basis of a retro-inspired outfit, made up of totally modern pieces:

If we’re being honest, the  fabric of this skirt is probably too heavy for the warm day this outfit was inspired by, but the shape is perfect, so I’m just going to pretend I didn’t notice the fabric. The tie-front top, meanwhile, is one of a few of these I’ve spotted lately, and it’s a really easy way to give a pin-up spin to a casual look.
