ASOS ‘Proxy’ tan and black cap toe shoes, £30
Cap toe shoes were one of the big shoe trends of 2012, but you may have noticed that shoe fashions tend to move a little more slowly than clothing ones do, which means they stick around a little longer, too. You can generally expect a particular shoe style to be deemed to be “in fashion” for at least a couple of years or sometimes longer, whereas clothing items are often what I think of as “one-season wonders”.
With that in mind, then, I guess it’s not too surprising that the cap toe look has stuck with us as we move into 2013, and as winter stock makes way for spring. No complaints there from me: I really like this look, and I particularly like the tan and black colour combination used in the shoes above, which are actually one of the nicer shapes I’ve seen in this style, despite also being one of the cheapest, at just £30.
That price tag tells you that these aren’t real leather, however they have a very nice, “dressed-up” kind of look, with the classic style and colours making them the kind of shoe that would be perfect for the office, but would still work in a more causal setting if you wanted them to. They have a 4.3″ heel and pointed toe, and are almost identical to Carvela’s ‘Janet’ pumps, which have a navy toe rather than a black one:
I think cap toe shoes are probably too much of a classic for this to count as Shoe Deja Vu, but if you’re looking for a slightly less expensive version of these (They’re currently £59 on sale), and don’t mind the man-made upper on the ASOS version, they could be a good buy which won’t go out of style any time soon.
Clearly I am not trendy, as I have no toe cap shoes in my wardrobe. Perhaps I should rectify that.
