High heel Hunter boots for wet-weather Shoeperwomen!

high heel hunter boots High heel Hunter boots for wet weather Shoeperwomen!

We’ve had some seriously wet weather here lately, and while I do have my trusty old rubber riding boots to fall back on at times like this, it has made me start to reconsider my position on Hunter Boots.

Now, previously, Hunter Boots have always fallen into the category or “nice, but not something I’d spend a lot of money on” for me. I mean, I LIKE them, but there are just so many nice shoes I could buy for the same price, and shoes will always, always win out over wellies for me. I know several people who own, and absolutely love, their Hunters, though, and because I’m vain enough, and addicted to heels enough to be totally the type of person who’d wear high heel wellies (Well, it’s not like I’d be trying to climb mountains in them or anything, and I actually find heeled boots more comfortable than flats boots), these heeled versions caught my attention last week at Shopbop.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I’m unlikely to be spending $165/$195 on wellies anytime soon. For those of you who would, though, I offer these as an alternative to the more classic style of Hunters: what do you think of them?

We’ve had over a week of torrential rain here, now. We’re talking serious, Biblical-style rain: the kind that makes you not want to leave your house for days and keeps you awake at night thanks to the sound of it drumming on the windows. Weather like this makes me glad of my Lady Dragon shoes: sure, my feet get wet, but at least the shoes don’t get ruined! As we get closer to winter, though, my thoughts turn towards rain boots: specifically these rain boots by Louis Vuitton.

If I absolutely HAVE to wear wellies – and it seems that I will, if this weather continues – I want them to be these ones. In fact, I want to wear these ALL the time, whether it’s raining or not, they’re THAT beautiful. And look, they come in other colours, too!

(I know, a heel that high isn’t exactly “practical”. I’m trying my best to justify this here, though, so bear with me…) These will be available soon at Vuitton boutiques. I promise not to complain about the weather EVER AGAIN if someone buys me a pair…

Havaianas ‘Always Summer’ rain boots

Havaianas are well-known for their flip-flops, but I’ve only just realised that the brand also makes rain boots. I guess that makes sense: I mean, they’ve got shoes for hot, dry weather, so they may as well go to the other extreme, and make shoes for soaking wet weather, too!

This particular style is called ‘Always Summer’, and I kind of like the irony of a pair of rain boots featuring a gorgeous, summer scene, with not a drop of rain in sight. These aren’t cheap at £50, but if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain, you may well consider it a worthwhile investment. Click here to buy them at Selfridges.

Burberry studded Wellington boots

burberry studded wellington boots Burberry studded Wellington bootsI gasped twice when these Burberry Wellington boots appeared on Net-a-Porter this week: first at the very sight of them – well, it’s not every day you see a pair of wellies which could be described as a “fashion statement”, and I do have a weakness for studs – and secondly at the price, which is £235. Two hundred pounds, for a pair of wellies? Not even if every single one of those studs was a giant diamond. (Well, OK, maybe if they were diamonds. That would be a bargain.)

What say you to them, readers? Would you pay that much for rain boots? If you would, click here to buy them from Net-a-Porter.

Yes, you read that headline right: there IS such a thing as pretty Wellies, and I’m planning to get myself some: well, after being woefully unprepared for all the snow we endured last winter, I’m absolutely determined not to get caught out this year without some kind of waterproof boots!

Naturally, I’ve turned to my current footwear supplier of choice – Miss Selfridge – to help me in this quest. (And yes, I realise I’ve made Miss Selfridge sound like some kind of shoe-crack dealers, but let’s face it: they kind of are right now) Predictably enough, I’m most taken with the pale blue polka dot numbers above, but read on for some more options:

In fact, if I had the kind of lifestyle that involved lots of tramping through muddy fields, and if I happened to have £125 tucked away in a special “buying rubber boots” fund, I’d be really tempted by them. And that’s not something I often find myself saying about rubber boots – or flat boots in general, come to think of it.

Sadly for me, no such “Rubber Boot Fund” exists, so I’ll have to live without them. If you can’t, though, they’re £125 at My-Wardrobe.

How much would you pay for a pair of Wellington boots?

For me, the answer to that would be “not very much”.  Wellies, like running shoes, are one of the few shoe purchases that give me no pleasure whatsoever, because they have a purely practical, rather than aesthetic purpose, and while it’s true that some wellies can be fun, with cute prints on them, the fact that the only person to see them would be me, while I’m out doing the garden, means I just refuse to spend very much on them.

These ones, then, although reduced in price to £48.93, are still waaaay more than I’d be prepared to pay for such footwear, but if you’re a Pucci lover, and think these are worth the investment, you can pick up a pair at The Outnet.

Would you, though?
