Oh, Vivienne Westwood, just stop it. And you too, Melissa Shoes. No, seriously: stop making shoes with hearts on the front, that I REALLY want to buy, even although I know perfectly well it would be totally ridiculous for me to buy yet another pair of Melissa heart shoes. Especially ones that are £165, because, I mean, I can try to justify it all I like by banging on about how practical they are for our rainy climate here in the UK, but £165 still seems pretty steep to me for jelly shoes – and I say that as a HUGE fan of Melissa’s jelly shoes!
Anyway, with that said, I’m a particularly huge fan of these particular Melissa jelly shoes, which are designed by Vivienne Westwood, and use the now-iconic heart design to great effect. This time around, the heart is attached to the classic stiletto, rather than the Lady Dragon peep toe, and, in addition to keeping your feet dry, that makes the shoe look a little more elegant, with its pointed toe and stylised heart embellishment. I obviously love the red version, which would fit seamlessly into my wardrobe, but I also like the “pearl” white colour, and think they’d be excellent bridal shoes – especially for anyone planning an outdoor wedding, and worrying about ruining satin shoes on grass!
For the rest of us, meanwhile, these would make a great autumn alternative to the good ol’ Lady Dragons – not that you couldn’t wear them in the spring and summer too, obviously, but that closed toe will make them just a little more versatile than their peep toe counterparts. I have to admit, I’m actually a little bit relieved they’re out of my budget – at least that way I can’t even TRY to persuade myself I need a pair!
