Schuh ‘Yana’ turquoise suede court shoes

schuh yana turquoise suede shoes Schuh Yana turquoise suede court shoes

I’ve had my beady little eyes on these shoes fir a while now, and I bet I don’t have to explain why, do I?

First up, is the colour. It’s the perfect shade of turquoise/pale green – I could look at it all day, and while the fact that Schuh have added a metallic flower embellishment in the same colour certainly helps add to the effect, these would’ve been almost as striking without it, thanks to that gorgeous shade of green. I’m also really liking the trend for chunkier heels that’s going on at the moment: these are 4.7″ high, but still look like they’d be relatively comfortable – and don’t worry, there’s also a concealed platform, to make them feel lower than they are.

These are also available in black, and are £75. Click here to buy them.

Shoeper Shoe Challenge Week 15 Roundup

roundup Shoeper Shoe Challenge Week 15 Roundup

As you can probably tell from the much more professional look of today’s roundup, Shoeperman is still at the helm, so many, many thanks to him for once again taking over! I also have an announcement coming up soon about how the Challenge will work while I’m on vacation next month, so stay tuned for that.

As for me, well, it’s been one of those weeks again, and by that I mean “one of those weeks where I didn’t save any shoes”. All is not lost, however – or not yet, anyway – and I may even manage to save a pair of shoes this very afternoon. Or, you know, maybe not. We’ll see. For now, though, I know you just want to see the Challengettes, so here they are: enjoy!

Pastel coloured platforms by Pour la Victoire

pour la victoire platforms Pastel coloured platforms by Pour la VictoirePastel colours aren’t all that common when it comes to shoes, but they are perfect for Springtime, so although the shape of these Pour la Victoire pumps isn’t anything out of the ordinary, I think the baby blue and lilac shades help set them apart.

These shoes are also available in camel and nude, which are also nice (I don’t think you can have too many pairs of shoes in those particular colours), but I’d be hard pressed to choose between the two shown above.

    Which would you go for?

ASOS Heist pink and red bow platform sandals

asos heist pink and red sandals1 ASOS Heist pink and red bow platform sandalsCombining two bold colours has become of the looks of this season, and I think these ‘Heist’ sandals from ASOS are a particularly good example of the trend. Bright red and pinkish-purple sound like they have no right to look good together, but somehow they do, and when you add in the chunky heel and platform, and cute little bow, I think these are onto a winner.

Perfect with a simple dress, and a good way to inject a bit of fun into any outfit, these are £65: click here to buy them.

Moda in Pelle pink ‘Cinderella’ peep toes

I know Cinderella wore a glass slipper, but I think she might have been just as pleased with her namesake shoes by Moda in Pelle, too. Well, glass just doesn’t sound comfortable for a shoe, does it?

These are available in pink and beige, and while my instinct was to show you the pink version, seen above, I’m also rather keen on the beige:

The pattern on the heel and toe looks a bit like lace from a distance and gives these a lovely, delicate look: somehow “Cinderella” seems like a fitting name for them! The pale colours would make both of these shoes very easy to style, but which ones would you go for?

These are £99.99 at Viva la Diva: click here to buy them.

Ask Shoeperwoman: Why don’t celebrities’ shoes fit properly?

why dont celebrities shoes fit Ask Shoeperwoman: Why dont celebrities shoes fit properly?

Last night I was looking at some of the Google search terms that bring people to this site (always an interesting exercise!) and I was surprised to find that one of the popular searches was this one:

Why don’t celebrities’ shoes fit properly?

Ah, you’ve noticed this too, mysterious searchers! A lot of the time when I look at red carpet photos, I notice that the famous people’s shoes often look either much too big or painfully small: the reason for this is that many celebrities don’t actually own the shoes or clothes you see them wear on the red carpet – they simply borrow them for the evening from the designer in question. Rather than send out a brand new pair of shoes, which they’ll then be unable to sell, the designer will often send out a sample pair, which may or may not be the right size for the celebrity in question, hence the multitude of red carpet photos featuring celebrities looking like they’re playing dress-up in their mother’s shoes.

Personally I’d much rather buy my own shoes and be able to walk in them than wear a free pair which are four sizes too large, but then again, I’m not a celebrity…

(I’ll be answering some more shoe-related questions soon, but if you have any others, feel free to drop me a comment and I’ll do my best to answer!)

Budget ballet flats by George at Asda

budget ballet flats1 Budget ballet flats by George at Asda

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times recently, this year I’ve been on a bit of a mission to increase my collection of flats. Because I don’t wear them all that often, though (And tend to be pretty hard on them when I do), I’m generally too mean to want to spend much cash on flats, so when I found these ones in Asda last week, for just £7 per pair, I knew at least one pair would be coming home with me.

As it turned out, two pairs ended up coming home with me – one green, one black – but it could’ve been so much worse than that, because they had these in a bunch of other colours, too, including red and blue patent versions, both of which were rather nice. They had the black version with a patent upper too, but I decided to go with the matte finish, because they were a little more stretchy, and therefore more comfortable.

Last week also saw the arrival of these little gold flats into my shoe closet:

These were a gift from my parents, and are in a great, go-with-anything goldy-bronze colour, which should prove really versatile.

Now, I’m in two minds whether or not to include these shoes in my Shoe Challenge total. Because I only ever really wear flats for convenience (i.e. I’ll wear them around the house, or if I have to run out on a quick errand, or do a lot of walking for some reason, but I don’t ever create outfits around them), and tend to wear them out quite quickly, I never really see them as permanent members of my shoe collection. I did include a couple of pairs this year, though, so maybe I’ll include these ones too: the jury’s still out!

shoeper shoe challenge 3 Shoeper Shoe Challenge 2011 #3: Loopy Lornas

What: Miss Selfridge ‘Polly’ platform bow pumps
    When: Sunday, February 20, 2011
Where: Afternoon tea at Loopy Lorna’s, Edinburgh
With: Black sweater (thrifted), stripe skirt (River Island via eBay), cameo brooch (Topshop), bag (Next, ancient), 50s style sunglasses (eBay)

On Sunday, Shoeperman and I had afternoon tea (complete with a bottle of bubbly, naturalement…) at Loopy Lorna’s in Edinburgh with a couple of our friends, so of course I grabbed the opportunity to save another pair of shoes: my black Miss Selfridge platforms, which are one of the most frequently worn shoes in my collection at the moment: I fear the day when I wear them out entirely!
