Shoe Deja Vu: Topshop ‘Pritti’ sandals Vs Gucci python sandals

One of the other shoes I spotted during Monday’s trip to Glasgow was these ‘Pritti’ sandals, from Topshop.

It was the colour that caught my attention, of course: I just can’t walk past green suede without stopping to stroke it, but as soon as I did, I was instantly reminded of Gucci’s python sandals:

The colour is different, as is the ankle strap, but the combination of green suede, single strap across the foot, and gold heel do create a strong sense of shoe deja vu, don’t you think?

Topshop describe these as “barely there” sandals, and that’s actually what puts me off both versions. As I’ve said before, when it comes to footwear, I like the emphasis to be on the shoes rather than on my feet, so while I like the look of these on their own, I’d probably like them less when I was wearing them, as the effect would be mostly of bare feet with just a couple of straps across them.  For that reason, I much prefer the Carvela ‘Go’ sandals, which also remind me of the Gucci shoe, but which cover more of the foot.

What do you think of these? The Topshop version is £75, and is also available in bronze: click here to buy them.

Shoe Deja Vu: ASOS Vs Moschino bow-front black slingbacks

black bow shoes Shoe Deja Vu: ASOS Vs Moschino bow front black slingbacksThis particular style of shoe has been around the block a few times now (those of you with long memories may remember the cute little red versions Dorothy Perkins released last year, amongst others), so I must confess that I have no idea who did it first. What I do know, however, is that ASOS.com’s £30 slingback is a much more affordable shoe than Moschino’s £225 version, although which pair you prefer is a matter of personal taste.

Which pair DO you prefer? If you’d take the ASOS shoe over its designer cousin, you need to know that it’s also available in nude and pink. Decisions, decisions…

I thought I’d finish this week the same way I started it: with a pair of bright pink (OK, magenta, then…) shoes with a bow on them somewhere. In this case, the bow is on the side rather than on the toe, and the colour is closer to purple than pink on my monitor, but hey, it’s Friday: cut me some slack here!

These shoes are also available in black, but this would be my choice of colour if I was in the market for a pair. They’re £35 from Dorothy Perkins.

Dorothy Perkins have just started stocking some styles by shoe brand ‘Timeless’, so the first thing to note about these shoes is that they’re ‘timeless’ by name, not necessarily by nature.

As it happens, I don’t think these shoes are particularly timeless-by-nature. At first glance I was instantly seduced by the bow on the front, which is certainly cute enough, but underneath that I’m seeing something I think of as a “clubbing shoe” – especially in the metallic purple version, seen in the middle of this photo.

Clubbing isn’t something I do a whole lot of these days, so shoes like this don’t hold a whole lot of appeal for me. If they appeal to you, though, they’re £55 and you can buy them here.

    Gina ‘Clair’ platform hoodie pumps

gina hoodie pumps Gina Clair platform hoodie pumpsJust before we go any further here, I want to make it clear that “hoodie pump” isn’t my name for these shoes, it’s how Gina themselves have decided to describe them. It IS rather apt, though, because the gathered front on these does look a little bit like a hood of sorts, doesn’t it?

I’m in two minds about these shoes. In the black and cream versions, I think the gathered toe makes the shoe look like it’s been wrapped up in some kind of protective dust-cover, which the owner hasn’t bothered to remove before wearing them. The red version, however… well, the red version I rather like, and I somehow think it works a little better.

What do you think? These are £450 from Gina.

Yes, it’s another bow-front court shoe, but the bow in this case is just a little bit different. The actual shape of these shoes is a tad matronly for me (there’s something about a chunky heel and rounded toe that always makes me think of the Queen, although I doubt she’d wear shoes this high!), but I do love the colour mix, which is dressy, but not so much that you’d be forced to save them for special occasions.

    These are £250 from My-Wardrobe.

Peep toe bow platform shoes from River Island

You could tell just from the headline that I was going to like these shoes, couldn’t you? Well, you were right, I do. They come in four different colours, but for reasons I can’t even begin to explain, I’m going through a bit of a “pink” phase at the moment (this is strange to me, because I’ve never really been a “pink” girl), so these are the two that appeal most to me. My favourites are the pair on the right, which are just really fresh, and fun and spring-link, and not quite as “River Island Barbie” as the pair on the left, which also have the dreaded metal heel. I think I spy a stripey insole, too: that makes me happy.

These are £59.99. Get them here.

Studded over-the-knee boots from River Island

studded thigh high boots Studded over the knee boots from River IslandI didn’t give these boots a second glance when they first appeared on the River Island website, but last weekend I spotted a girl wearing them while I was out shopping, and found myself walking around doing that “trying not to look like I’m staring at your shoes, even although I’m totally staring at your shoes” thing. Is it just me who does that?

Anyway, I can report that these boots are far more awesome in real life that they appear to be in this image: they have a fabulous slouchy, lived-in look which I really like, and they manage to be casual but stunning, which isn’t an easy thing to achieve. Of course, it may well have helped that their wearer was tall, gorgeous and looked like an off-duty model (she was wearing them with simple black leggings, long line top and cardigan), but hey they made ME take a second look, anyway. If you’d like to take another look too, they’re £119 from River Island.
