Jeffrey Campbell’s Lita, looking a little hairier than usual

jefferey campbell lita boots Jeffrey Campbells Lita, looking a little hairier than usual

I’m sure these boots require no introduction from me: if you read fashion blogs at all, you can’t have failed to have seen Jeffrey Campbell’s ‘Lita’ boots on the feet of almost every fashion blogger around – to say that they were popular in blogging circles last year would be an understatement, to say the least.

This is the latest version of the famous boot, and as you can see… well, they’re now covered in hair. Yes, hair. Don’t worry, it’s fake hair… but it’s still hair.

Now, personally I don’t like my shoes to have more hair than my head does. It’s just a little rule of mine. So, needless to say, I won’t be rushing out and spending $172 on these. Will you, though? Click here if you answered in the affirmative…

Topshop ‘Kerb’ red patent leather t-bar shoes

topshop red patent kerb shoes Topshop ‘Kerb’ red patent leather t bar shoesOver at The Fashion Police, I write a lot about what I refer to as the “Dress Like a Toddler Trend” - i.e. adults wearing clothes which look like they’d be much more at home on a small child. Hats with ears and anything that can be described as a “onesie” all fit into this category, and so, I would argue, do these shoes. OK, they may not be quite right on a toddler, exactly, but I had several pairs of shoes that looked very much like these when I wasn’t much older than that, and when I came across them on the Topshop website, I actually thought I’d stumbled onto a site for children’s clothes instead.

From this, you can probably tell that I’m not keen on this look at all, and I think it would take some clever styling for these not to infantilize their wearer in one easy move. Could you do it, do you think? What would you wear with them, if so?

Every so often, a designer takes it into his or her head to stick lipstick on the heel of a shoe. I kinda wish they wouldn’t, to be honest. I know some people will argue that it’s “quirky” and “cute”, and God knows, I love red lipstick and I love black pumps, so you’d think I’d love any combination of the two. You’d be wrong, though: this is just way too gimmicky for me, but if it’s just what you’ve been waiting for all your life, you can click here to buy these for £269.

Shoepervillains: Rick Owens hooded leather wedge boots

rick owens leather hooded boots Shoepervillains: Rick Owens hooded leather wedge bootsRather sinister, don’t you think?

I’ve just worked out that I’ve been writing about shoes for almost four years now, and about fashion in general for even longer than that. I still think Rick Owens’ hooded boots, which were also released in an ankle version last year, are the strangest shoes I’ve ever seen. I mean, if these were human, they’d probably be arrested, purely because they look so suspicious, don’t they?

So, what IS going on under that hood?

Eek! Knit thigh high boots by Opening Ceremony

opening ceremony thigh high boots Eek! Knit thigh high boots by Opening Ceremony

As Fashion Police readers will know, if there’s one thing I really can’t stand in the world of footwear, it’s boots that are designed to look like a pair of shoes worn with socks.

Case in point: Opening Ceremony’s knit thigh high boots, above. Now, it’s not the way they look that bothers me. The shoes (or the part of the boot that LOOKS like a shoe, rather) are pretty unremarkable, but they’re not exactly ugly, and I do love thigh-high socks. Why are they joined together, though? I mean, WHY? What’s the point? If I wanted to wear a pair of shoes with socks, it’s not like it would be really hard to just go and do that, would it? Also, I don’t know about you, but I don’t tend to buy shoes and think, “Great, now that I have these, I’m going to pick out a pair of socks/tights and then only ever wear these shoes with those socks.” Of course not: because it’s so much more interesting to be able to wear your shoes with different socks and tights from time to time, isn’t it? Or is that just a completely novel idea?

What I’m trying to say here, then, is that although I don’t hate the look of these, I would never, ever buy them. Especially considering the fact that they’re $695.

What do you think of them, though? Can you think of a good reason to want your socks to be attached to your shoes? If you can, click here to buy these from Neiman Marcus.

The Worishofer Shoe: the new celebrity footwear of choice, apparently

    by
    7

Worishofer Womens 251 Sandal The Worishofer Shoe: the new celebrity footwear of choice, apparentlyNo, your eyes don’t deceive you: I’m showing you orthopaedic shoes, and I’m trying to claim that these are a fashion statement. I’m pretty sure that’s one of the signs of the Apocalypse right there.

What I’m not doing, however, is claiming I’d ever wear these personally (relax, good readers!): it’s no secret that I like my shoes high, and I like them not to look like what the elderly contingent of my town like to wear with their flesh-coloured tights, but apparently these shoes ARE the hot new fashion trend. They’re Worishofer orthopaedic sandals (originally designed for people with bunions) and, having been spotted on the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams, they’re now being described as the hottest celebrity must-have.

It’s at times like this I’m glad I don’t follow fashion.

What do you think of these? Obviously wearing them because of foot issues is totally understandable, but do you think they can make the leap to fashion-item? If you do, you can get them at Amazon.

    Oh. Maybe not.

Now, I’ve said it before: I’m normally a huge fan of Maison Martin Margiela footwear, which is often weird in a good way. This, however, is just … weird.

What do you think? Do you love it? If you do, head over to Luisa Via Roma, where these retail for £425.70.
