I spoke about zebra print shoes just last week, and wouldn’t you know it, here’s another pair, absolutely determined to win my heart.
They may just have managed it, too. These are by Anastasia Bice, who was responsible for an amazing piece of Shoe Kryptonite from earlier this year:
The leopard print shoes will definitely go down as one of my favourite shoes of the year (if you wear a size 35, these are on sale in your size: click here to buy them!), and the zebra print versions are pretty special too, with the pink bow being one of the cutest variations on the bow theme I’ve seen in a long time. I can tell Anastasia Bice is a woman after my own heart, and she seems to be after my money, too, because she just keeps on making shoes I love.
These are £263, so they’re not destined to be sitting on my shoe shelves anytime soon, but if you want to grab yourself a pair, they’re available at Louisa Via Roma: click here to buy them.
Zebra print shoes aren’t quite as popular as their cousins, the leopard print shoes (Can zebra and leopards be said to be “cousins”. Only when we’re talking about shoes…), but they’re every bit as loud, and every bit as wild. (I’ll let you insert your own “walk on the wild side” joke here: I just can’t quite bring myself to do it.)
Why do we see so many leopards, and so few zebras on footwear? Well, those bold stripes aren’t exactly the easiest print to wear, although, done right, they can definitely add an interesting twist to your look: imagine these worn with something like a black pencil skirt, for instance.
These shoes are called ‘Swagger’ – presumably because you’ll walk with one when you wear them – and they’re also available in black and red suede. What do you think of them, though? I have three pairs of leopard print shoes and not one zebra: or any other animal prints, for that matter. What about you?
I’ve long been a fan of animal print on shoes and accessories (although not on anything else, it has to be said), but when I do wear animal print, it always tends to be of the leopard variety. I’ve been totally neglecting the rest of the animal kingdom, in other words, so I’m putting that right today by showing you these zebra print peep toes by Jean-Michel Cazabat.
Although the print is on the wild side (no pun intended. Well, OK, maybe a bit intended…), the rest of the shoe has been kept really simple here, which I think is the only way to wear animal print. I must admit, I still prefer my standard leopard print, but if you want to dabble with the zebras, you can click here to buy these from Shopbop, where they’re $260.
These shoes aren’t at all what I was expecting when I saw the word “zebra” in the product title: rather than the familiar (and slightly garish, in the hands of the wrong designer) black and white print we’re all used to, these use cutouts to cunningly suggest a zebra print, with your own bare skin as the backdrop. Texture and shine are added with a crystal overlay on the leather, and there’s a gold piping to finish the whole lot off. It sounds like a lot of detail when you write it down, but the finished product is actually much more sophisticated than it sounds, and definitely one of the more inventive uses of “zebra” I’ve seen.
These are by Valentino, so of course they’re jaw-droppingly expensive: $1,275 is the price, and you can click here to buy them from Neiman Marcus.
Pretty Ballerinas tend to keep it classic most of the time, but every so often they’ll come up with something totally unexpected: like these zebra print ‘Rosario’ flats, which come with a pair of lips on one shoe and a red guitar on the other. They’re obviously going for a quirky, “rock chick” kind of vibe here, and although I don’t normally like anything that could be described as a “novelty” shoe, these have definitely made me smile.
If you’re going to wear them, you could either go all out, with a 50s-style circle skirt and cats-eye glasses, or tone it right down with a pair of jeans or trousers. Like them? If not, don’t worry: this shape comes in all kinds of other patterns, and not all of them have a pair of lips stuck to the front of them!
These arrived on the Topshop website yesterday morning. By the time I came to write this post, at 2pm, they were already sold out in the leopard print, with just a few sizes remaining in the zebra (and by the time you read this, those may well be gone too…).
It looks like this winter is going to be… interesting.
If you really want these, you should still be able to pick them up in larger branches. Oh, and they’re also available in black, but where’s the fun in that?
Sorry, I have no idea what came over me there. Zebra’s don’t even make that noise, do they? Moving along…
There’s a whole lot of animal print around for the coming winter season, and, somewhat unusually, it seems to be zebra rather leopard that’s taking centre stage. (There’s still a lot of leopard about too, though. Wouldn’t want leopards to feel left out or anything). These schuh’s (do you see what I did there?) definitely aren’t for those who like to fly under the radar, because they’re practically screaming “LOOK AT ME!” It worked, too. Well, it made me look, anyway.
