YSL Tribute sandals… in plastic

My small, but constantly growing, collection of Vivienne Westwood/Melissa Lady Dragon shoes can probably be taken as a good sign that I’m not opposed to the idea of jelly shoes for adults: even expensive ones. In fact, I love my Lady Dragons, and would probably buy them in every single colour they’re available in if I possibly could.

These, though? These YSL jelly Tribute platforms? Which are $495? Er, I’ll pass on that, thanks. And it’s not just because of the colour – which I probably wouldn’t wear in ANY fabric, let alone plastic (Don’t get me wrong, I love me some mustard shoes, but these are a bit bright even for my yellow-loving heart), because the black version of these aren’t any more appealing to me.

Looking for a plus side, I guess you could argue that these are weatherproof, are probably very hard-wearing (so you’ll get more bang for your buck than you would with the leather or suede versions, which will be that bit more delicate), and if you don’t wear leather but love Tributes, these will at least allow you to wear them without compromising your principles.

I still wouldn’t buy them, though: would you?

(If you answered “yes”, you can click here to buy them from Bergdorf Goodman)

Miranda Kerr in YSL Tribute pumps in Sydney

LFI MIRANDAKERR009 Miranda Kerr in YSL Tribute pumps in SydneyYou know, it’s my birthday next month. Could someone get me Miranda Kerr’s legs, do you think? No? OK, how about just the shoes, then? These look like YSL’s Tribute pumps to me, and they’re something of a celebrity shoe staple these days, popping up everywhere from red carpet events to a function at a Bondi Beach restaurant, which is where Miranda wore them this week. She’s gone for the slightly risky “high heels/short skirt” combo, but I guess when you’re a Victoria’s Secret model you can get away with things like this, hmm?

Shoe Deja Vu: Office’s ‘Spider’s Web’Vs YSL’s cage boots

yslcage boots Shoe Deja Vu: Offices Spiders WebVs YSLs cage bootsJust when I thought the cage trend was starting to die out, along come Office with their ‘Spider’s Web’ boots. Not a direct copy of the famous YSL cage boots, these could be more accurately described as “designer inspired” than many of the shoes I feature in this column, and I actually think they’re a lot more wearable than the originals, too. They are, however, very like the Topshop and Steve Madden cage boots which were available earlier this year, so I wonder how many more high street brands are going to bring out their versions of this style?
