Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle boots

alexander mcqueen winged leather ankle boots Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle bootsThe shape of this boot isn’t new: I wrote about Alexander McQueen’s Pelle’ ankle boots back in May 2009, and the basic shape hasn’t changed since then. What is different, however, is the bronze stitching and hardware, and, of course, those embroidered wings on the side. I’m a bit of a sucker for wings on shoes, and I love these: I also have to admit that I’m slowly coming around to the idea of the peep-toe boot, perhaps because there are just so many of them around now that I’m tempted to think that sooner or later I’ll have to just give in and accept their existence. I still think that almost every peep toe boot I’ve ever seen would look better without the peep toe, although on these ones it does seem to work.

What do you think of them? They’re £705 at Net-a-Porter – click here to buy them.

Gold ‘Priscilla’ sandals by Topshop Boutique

topshop priscilla sandals Gold Priscilla sandals by Topshop Boutique

Did anyone else’s brains just add the words “Queen of the Desert” after the word ‘Priscilla’ in the title of this post? Mine did: and not because I’m losing my mind (or not just because I’m losing my mind, anyway), but because these have a very OTT feel about them, which their namesake ‘Priscilla’ would probably appreciate.

From the back, the high ankle on these gives them a “wings on the heels” look (so Achilles would probably like them, too!) and they also have a sculpted heel and a two-tone platform. Quite a lot going on there for one little shoe, but I’m mostly remininded of a pair of “Punk Shoes”, complete with mohawk.

What do you think? If you like them, they’re £120 from Topshop.

Laurence Dacade peep toe patent courts with wings on the heel

laurence dacade Laurence Dacade peep toe patent courts with wings on the heelI think these are the prettiest of all the wing-heeled shoes I’ve shown you recently. Less cartoonish than some of the other styles (not that there’s anything wrong with being cartoonish, you understand. Ahem.), they’re just lovely and unusual, but not so unusual that you’ll have problems working out to wear with them. In fact, the pale pink/nude uppers will go with more or less everything, making these a great pair of shoes for a special occasion, because they should work with even the most troublesome of dress colours.  Lovely.

Max Kibardin shoe booties: more wings for your heels

wing heeled shoes Max Kibardin shoe booties: more wings for your heelsLooks like Irregular Choice aren’t the only ones to go for the “Hermes, messenger of the Gods” theme this season. No sooner had I finished writing about their flat winged sandals, than my x-ray vision picked up these winged shoe boots by Max Kibardin, which have a similar theme, but without the “strictly for summer holidays” vibe of the Irregular Choice shoes.

These have a bit of a superhero vibe, which is naturally appreciated by yours truly, but I’m curious to know what the rest of you think of them? At $810, these definitely aren’t a budget buy: so, would you buy them?

Irregular Choice ‘Bow Up’ flat sandals with wings on the heels

irregular choice wing sanda Irregular Choice Bow Up flat sandals with wings on the heels

I’ve been thinking about holidays a lot recently. Well, actually, I think about holidays a LOT. But I’ll be flying off to sunnier climes in just over a month now, which means the time has almost come to retire my stilettos for a couple of weeks and slip into something a little more casual.

Me being me, of course, I don’t like to get too casual with my footwear, so my attention was grabbed by these ‘Bow Up’ sandals by Irregular Choice, which will make you look like Hermes (that’s the messenger of the Gods, by the way, not the expensive fashion label) with their winged heels. They’ll be just a tad too much for many tastes, but they’re definitely different, and I like the little contrasting bow at the ankle, which keeps them feminine. They’re also available in silver.

BUY: Irregular Choice ‘Bow Up’ flat sandals, £55
