If you have your hand raised, and you don’t baulk at the idea of paying $1,295 for your shoes, I think these would make a beautiful pair of bridal shoes. They’re by Manolo Blahnik, and the crystal detail on the vamp really deserves a closer look:
Beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that I’d be tempted to go for a knee-length dress, just so I could show them off.
Jealous of the brides getting all the fun shoes? Don’t worry, these are available in black, too: click here to buy them from Neiman Marcus.
I’m sure no one needed to read the title of this post to know that these shoes are by Alexander McQueen: they’re just so typical of the brand’s creative style right now that I bet Lady Gaga has placed her order already! I would be really interested to know who else will buy these, though: I mean, quite apart from the small fact that they cost $4,790 (!), they’re not exactly the kind of shoes you’d wear to the supermarket, say, are they?
Just look at those heels!
For some reason, I’m reminded of the stormtroopers in Star Wars.
Or maybe not.

I’ve always been a little bit wary of white stilettos. I like them. Or some of them, anyway. I even really like some of them. But having been a child in the 80s, I can still remember the ways in which the white stiletto was abused during that time, and how it came to be regarded as a huge fashion “don’t” for a lot of people, and I think some of the “white stiletto = tacky” message must have stuck in my mind, unwittingly, because I don’t own a single pair of white court shoes, even although their association with the Essex girls of the 80s is long gone.
This particular white court shoe, of course, is nothing like its predecessors. Yes, it has the pointed toe and the stiletto heel , but somehow that little black bow makes all the difference, and the effect is rather demure and ladylike. I love it, and think these shoes would be an excellent buy for summer: as well as looking good with dresses and skirts (and working with pretty much any colour or print), the monochrome colourway would also make these look good with something like black jeans and a blazer.
What do you think of them? They’re £38, and you can click here to buy them from Miss Selfridge.
These shoes have their backs to us, not because they’ve done something wrong and been sent to stand in the corner, but because the heels are the most interesting thing about them. Don’t believe me? Oh, OK, here’s the side view:
See? They’re not bad shoes, but the white uppers are a bit… well, bland, really. The purple heel and sole, however, are a different matter, and while I wouldn’t buy them myself – and certainly not for £539 – they did make me stop and look, and if a shoe has the power to make me stop in my tracks, well, that’s normally enough to make me want to show you it.
These have woven heels, just like almost every other pair of shoes I seem to find right now, which have been dyed a deep, vibrant purple. And that’s about all I have to say about them. I’m off to look at those Miss KGs again now: you, meanwhile, can click here if you want to have a better look at these.
I never thought I’d find myself admiring a pair of white, pointy-toed stilettos, and yet somehow here I am admiring these ones. Not in an “I’d buy and wear them,” kind of way, you understand, but more in a “If Carrie Bradshaw wore them, I’d probably love them.”
I do love the red flash on the heel, though, and these are the kind of shoes that jumped out of me as I scrolled through the Net-a-Porter “New In” page. What do you think of them?
White shoes have never been my favourite thing in the world, but I think I’d be willing to make an exception for these ‘Molly’ sandals, by Betsey Johnson. Not only is the colour totally appropriate for a summer sandal, the bow is adorable and the wooden heel looks both comfortable and cute, which is an all-too-rare combination.
I’d love to see these with an equally monochrome outfit (black jeans or dress would look fabulous), but they’ll be equally at home with most other colours too. Click here to see for yourself.
Any time the word “loafer” appears in a product description, it’s usually a pretty good clue that the shoes in question won’t interest me at all. These River Island high heeled loafers, however, are the exception to that rule: I love the pretty/vaguely 70s-inspired look of these, which would be perfect for Autumn. If the weather was no object, my preference would be for the white versions, which would take you all the way through to Spring easily (and be fabulous with the nautical-inspired fashions that reappear every year as soon as the weather starts to warm up), but the mustard yellow is rather lovely too, and will work well with this season’s camel.
Like them? They’re £59.99, and you can click here to buy a pair from River Island.
I don’t often shop from Next’s clothing collections, but I must admit, they have a rather nice line in ballet flats, with everything from jewelled Miu-Miu-esque party flats to these simple but chic little flexible ballerinas, which come complete with a striped bow threaded through the front.
These are available in red and white/blue, and I’d be hard pressed to choose between them, because the colours are just perfect for summer. The white shoes have a lovely, fresh look about them, while the red versions are a little bit sassier. Both are £28, and you can choose your colour here.
