comic book wedges Peep toe cartoon wedges by Angeline Tournier

The lovely ladies over at Domestic Sluttery drew my attention to these comic book wedges by Angeline Tournier and, being a comic-book style superhero myself, I thought I really ought to show them to you.

This is one of two different styles, both featuring comic-print on the heels, and they’re also available with various different colours of upper, although I think this bright red is probably my favourite. They’re definitely eye-catching, and they’ll also give you something to read if you ever find yourself having to wait for a train or something, although you’ll have to be pretty flexible to read them while you’re still wearing them, obviously.

They’re £175 and you can get them here.

Azzedine Alaia python and shell wedge shoes

alaia raffia sandals Azzedine Alaia python and shell wedge shoes

You can always rely on Azzedine Alaia to come up with something a little bit different, and these raffia and wedge shoes definitely fall into that category, although to me they look more like some kind of ancient artefact (from the, er, Rafia Age) than actually footwear. They’re also £ 1339.00, which is… a lot. Yes, a lot.

From this you’ll have gathered that I’m not going to be saving up my pennies to buy a pair of these. I think they’ll probably fall into the “love it or hate it” category (or maybe just the “hate it” category, who knows?). If you’re feeling the raffia love, though, you can buy these here.

    Keds circle print wedge sandals

keds wedges Keds circle print wedge sandalsThese aren’t quite what I tend to think of when someone says the word “Keds”, but I think I like them, anyway. The dotty heels are lots of fun, and help liven up the otherwise basic shape these wedges and that dotty pattern is picked up on the toes, too. A nice, summery shoe that should be comfortable to wear thanks to the wedge heel and strap, these are £55 from La Redoute.

melissa karim wedges Melissa ‘Karim’ plastic wedge shoes exclusive to BrownsFresh from their collaboration with Vivienne Westwood, Melissa are at it again, this time joining forces with Karim Rashid to create these pink wedges in the brands trademark plastic.

I was a huge fan of the Anglomania collaboration, but this one I’m not so sure about. I love the heels, but the super-pointy toes are putting me off a little. If you have no such qualms, however, they’re £70 from Browns: what do you think of them, though?

Until now I had absolutely no idea I needed a pair of silver wedges with a large hole in the heel in my life, but apparently I do. Dontchya just hate it when that happens?

These are the second pair of Casadei wedges I’ve shown you, but my relationship with these shoes is much less complicated than with the first pair, which I still can’t decide whether I love or hate. With these ones it’s love all the way, and although I can’t actually think of a single occasion I’d need these for, that’s never stopped me buying shoes before.

Sadly for me, the £694 price tag IS enough to stop me. If it doesn’t even give you pause for thought, however, you can buy these babies here.

low wedge heels Metallic wedge sandals with low heel from River Island

For those of you in the market for a pair of pretty, summery sandals, but who don’t want to be tottering around on high heels, these River Island wedges could be a good compromise.

There is a small heel on these, so they’re give you a little bit of height, but the fact that it’s a wedge should make these much easier on the feet than many other strappy sandals. Meanwhile, the gold uppers and delicate straps make these ideal party wear, but you’d also be able to get away with wearing them casually with jeans.

Dune’s ‘Merry’ floral wedges: bright enough for ya?

dune merry wedges Dunes Merry floral wedges: bright enough for ya? We spoke about the trend for super-high wedges last week, and here’s another example of that trend in action, in the shape of Dune’s ‘Merry’ wedges. And what a shape it is! I’m not sure exactly how high that wedge heel is, but those who aren’t used to heels are probably getting vertigo just from looking at it, and let’s face it, with all of those colours in the floral-print sole, it’s hard to do anything BUT look at it, isn’t it?

Love them or hate them, these shoes will be definite head-turners, and they even do matching handbags, if you like the print. They’re available in blue and pink, and they’re £56 from Dune.

ASOS green t-bar platform wedge shoes

asos platform wedges ASOS green t bar platform wedge shoes

Summer means wedges, and this summer wedges mean platforms. And when I say “platforms” I mean “even I would hesitate to try and walk in these”.*

Yes, 2009 is surely going to go down in Shoe History of the year of the gigantic platform soles, and our wedge friends haven’t escaped the trend. These ones from ASOS.com (who’ve claimed most of my disposable income this month, incidentally) are one of the higher pairs I’ve found, and as you can see, these are plenty high: in fact, the total heel height is 6,4″, so expect comments about the weather up there, buy yourself a pair of extra-long trousers (if, indeed, you’re going to be wearing them with trousers: I think a skirt or dress would show them off much more effectively) and, above all, make sure you don’t fall off them. Because that’ll hurt.

Of course, platforms of this height are often accused of looking like “stripper shoes”, but I think the fact that these are wedges rather than stilettos helps save them from that fate. They’re very striking, and pretty much guaranteed to turn heads, and if you want to buy them, they’re £85 from ASOS, and also come in a grey/black combo.

BUY: ASOS green t-bar platform wedge shoes

*Note: I wouldn’t really. My motto: “Anything you can do in flats, I can do in heels. Except maybe tightrope walking.”
