New Look over-the-knee tassel boots

I bought these boots a few weeks ago (and then found out that Arlene of Dress Junkie has them too – great minds think alike!) but totally forgot to blog about them, even although I’ve been wearing them almost every weekend, when Shoeperman and I go out exploring the countryside!

Actually, we’ve been mostly exploring some of Scotland’s old houses and castles: they tend to have large, muddy gardens and woodland walks to wander around in, so practicality has to be the major concern when it comes to footwear on these occasions! And that’s why I bought these: I wanted a pair of boots that were reasonably flat, and easy to walk in, and which I wouldn’t mind getting muddy. The fact that these aren’t real leather actually suited me, because it means I don’t have to worry about ruining them, and I also like the fact that they have a little tiny wedge heel – it makes them more supportive than a totally flat sole, and, well, you know how I love my heels. As for the tassel – I’m not normally a fan of them, but I liked them on these boots for some reason. It comes off, though, if I ever change my mind! Oh, and although I’m wearing them over-the-knee here, you can also fold the tops down, if you prefer.

This weekend I wore these when we visited Traquair House, which is Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, with beautiful gardens and a maze to wander around, too. They were super comfortable, even although I was walking around in them for hours – not bad for £35!

Celebrity Shoes: Lily Allen’s stripey Chanel peep toe boots

The love affair between Lily Allen and Chanel continues… In Paris to sing at the Chanel show, here she is wearing a pair of striped wedge boots by the brand. It must be fantastic getting to be a Chanel clothes horse, but I guess the occassional pair of slightly odd looking boots is the price you have to pay, eh?

Acne ‘Atacoma’ Lace Up Wedge Ankle Boots

acne wedge ankle boots Acne Atacoma’ Lace Up Wedge Ankle BootsFull disclosure: I’ve never been much of a fan of Acne, either the skin condition or the brand. While I’d imagine I’m not alone in my lack of love for the former, however, I know the latter has some devoted followers, and presumably that’s who these boots are aimed at. For me, well, I’m loving wedge boots at the moment, and would love to find the perfect pair for winter, but these won’t be on my wish list: they’re way too clumpy, and I have a feeling they’d make my feet look absolutely enormous.

Not for me, then, but if they do it for you, they’re £355 at Browns.

Kurt Geiger’s ‘Amp’ wedge heeled ankle boots

Yes, I know, it’s another pair of boots – and black ones at that! – but I’ve been obsessed with wedge boots since last Winter, and these ones from Kurt Geiger are just about perfect. Although wedges can be clumpy, these are anything but, and have a lovely, elegant shape that makes them stunning to look at, and hopefully easy to walk in, too.

The low tops also find favour here: they’ll make these easy to wear with trousers or skirts, and even with skinny jeans, which I tend to find sit rather oddly with ankle boots, although I suspect that’s just me.

The only thing I’m not keen on? The price. They’re £280 at Kurt Geiger.

Alain Quilici lace-up cut out wedge boots

Dior did this kind of cut-out wedge last season, and I must admit, I wasn’t a fan of it then, and I’m still not a fan of it now, on these lace-up boots by Alain Quilici. Of course, I’m not a fan of lace-ups at the best of times, and that’s purely a laziness thing: I had a pair of mid-calf length lace-up boots once upon a time, and I couldn’t wait to get rid of them, because I got so tired of all of the lacing and unlacing involved in wearing them. Like I say, I’m lazy.

These lose points on two counts for me, then, but if they’re you’re kind of thing – and they’re definitely different – you can buy a pair for 910 euros here.

You can tell just by looking at these that they’re going to be heartbreaking expensive, can’t you? I’m sorry. I did actually set out today to find some more affordable shoes, but these were too stunning to be ignored, and so here they are, in all of their 800 euro gorgeousness. And just to rub it in a bit more, look:

If I hadn’t already fallen for the side view, that heel would’ve pushed me over the edge. These are real statement shoes, but they’re also wedges, and it’s summer, so I say if you can afford them, wear ‘em. If not for yourself, then do it for me.

They’re by Deigo Dolcini, and they’re 800 euros from Louisa Viaroma.

It’s getting a little bit ridiculous now, the whole “let’s see who can make the highest wedge possible” thing that’s been going on in fashion for a while now.

Take these Charolotte Olympia wedges, for instance. Now, I rarely let a heel defeat me, and am fond of saying that anything you can do in flats, I can do in heels. But I AM scared of heights, and I’m thinking that even I would find these shoes just a little bit daunting.

Of course, Louisa Viaroma don’t actually give details about the exact height of the platform, so it could be that these are actually not quite as high as they look, with the horizontal stripes serving as an optical illusion to make them look higher. If you’d like to find out for yourself, you’re going to need quite a bit of spare cash, as these work out to around $1,060 dollars.

They’re wonderful to look at, but I think “looking” is all I’m going to be doing. What do you think?

Giuseppe Zanotti’s high wedge sandals

Few designers have as much fun with wedges as Giuseppe Zanotti. This one is so striking I’d love to try it one, but as for actually wearing it… Well, the heel is over 5″ at it’s highest part, but Zappos say the platform sole will make it feel more like 3,5″, so I don’t know. They still look like the kind of thing I could easily break an ankle in if wasn’t being careful, and I rarely AM being careful, which makes me think they’d probably be best left as something to look at, rather than something to wear. Not that I’d be buying them anyway: they’re $754 from Zappos. What do you think of them?
