Viktor & Rolf blue high heel bow sandals

I’ve never been a huge fan of Viktor & Rolf (I know it’s almost sacrilegious for a fashion blogger to say that, but it’s true), but there are a few pieces in the current collection which I can totally see myself wearing, and then, of course, there are these shoes.

Can I see myself wearing these? Well, I’m not sure. I mean, I LOVE them: that goes without saying. But I think they’re one of those styles that I’d really need to see on a foot to be sure about: the oversized bow is SO oversized that there’s just no telling what it would do to your legs. It could be fabulous, but then again, it’s not everyone who wants to have their ankles emphasized in this particular way, is it?

What do you think of these? They’re $860 and you can click here to buy them at Shopbop.

Colette describes these Viktor & Rolf boots as “futuristic”, which made me smile, because back when I was a teenager,  can remember seeing a very similar style in the window of Schuh. These ones were shoes, not boots, but they had that same, exaggerated sole and I thought they were the coolest things I’d ever seen in my life. (To put this in context, I had a perm at the time, and always wore sneakers. Yes, even when I wasn’t doing physical exercise! Oh, how the times have changed!) I have no idea who designed those long-ago boots, but I DO know they weren’t $457, and I also know that my taste hasn’t come full-circle yet, so adult-me will leave them for someone else to love.

Viktor & Rolf bow front wedge sandals

I don’t normally like shoes designed go look like they’re made from denim, but I DO like these ones by Viktor and Rolf and I’m sure you can see why! These are everything that’s adorable, from the blue and red mix, to the perfectly-shaped little bow on the front. I also love the crossover straps and curved sides : a lovely little summer shoe, and one that will work perfectly with the ongoing nautical trend.

These are £295 at Yoox.com

Viktor & Rolf sequined ‘sock’ boots

Unlike the Alexander McQueen boots I showed you earlier today, these boots DO appear to have socks attached to them, albeit the “socks” in question are covered in sequins.

The “stuck together” look makes these an automatic “do not want” for me, although admittedly the black court shoes/boots on the left of the picture are at least a little more acceptable to me than most footwear of this genre. As for the grey flats, though, those just puzzle me: the sequins seem to suggest that these are supposed to be worn on an evening out or other special occasion, but the shape and colour of the shoe part just doesn’t say “special” to me at all. Which I guess is a lesson to us all that you can wear a pair of sequined socks with your sensible grey flats, but it still won’t turn them into a party shoe.

Both of these styles are available from Colette, where you can expect to pay in the region of $650 per pair. Ouchie.

Viktor & Rolf ruffle/corsage heel stiletto sandals

Well. These Viktor & Rolf sandals may be many things, but I don’t think they could be accused of being “boring” – and these are actually one of the tamer designs from the latest collection.

They’re yet another example of the shoe world’s current obsession with ruffles, and in this case the ruffles have been taken a little too far for my taste. The giant corsage I could live with, but the ruffles on the heel look like old fashioned bloomers to me: as if the stiletto heel is trying to modestly cover itself up, the way Victorians apparently used to cover table legs for feat they would offend someone’s delicate sensibilities.

But that’s just me.  If you love these so much you’re happy to spend $1,049 on them (gulp!) you can buy them here.
