Bronze platform court shoes from River Island

bronze platform court shoes Bronze platform court shoes from River IslandThese shoes are also available with a plain black upper, but it’s hard not to overlook good ol’ black when this gold/bronze version is sitting right next to them, isn’t it?

This is another example of the chunkier style of heel that’s been increasingly popular over the past year or so. The shape really lends itself to this dramatic gold and black “flame” pattern, which has a very retro feel, and would look great with a simple pair of black skinnies. Despite being a bit of an attention-stealer, however, I don’t think this shoe looks too OTT, but of course, if you do, there’s always that black version!

Miss KG ‘Memphis’ bow slingback shoes

miss kg bow peep toe shoes Miss KG Memphis bow slingback shoes

I’ve been trying to stay away from the Kurt Geiger website recently, lest I fall into further temptation, but I ventured there today and happened upon these ‘Memphis’ bow slingbacks, which have a “daytime” look (black suede, fabric bow) and a “nighttime” one (gold glitter). Of course, you could wear either of them any time you like, but I’d be hard-pushed to choose between the two: I’m always drawn to black and cream combos, but the glittery gold is just so pretty, too!

These are £75 and you can click here to buy a pair from Kurt Geiger. Which ones would you go for?

Marc Jacobs black patent flower pumps

marc jacobs patent flower pumps Marc Jacobs black patent flower pumps

You’d think designers would be starting to run out of ways to use flowers on shoes by now, but you’d be wrong about that, and just to prove it, here are Marc Jacobs’ black patent pumps, which come complete with a giant white Plexiglas flower on each toe.

That flower obviously provides the focal point for these shoes, but the rest of the design shouldn’t be overlooked: they have a lovely, curvy shape, a neat little square toe, and a smart wooden heel. The black and white contrasting upper, meanwhile, gives them a very classic feel.

Black and white toe cap court shoes from Next

black and white toe cap court shoes Black and white toe cap court shoes from Next

I’m really loving Next’s work in the shoe department right now: first we had those adorable polka dot pumps, and now these classic toe-cap pumps, which have cute brogue detailing on the trim, and a little bow on the toe: perfect. (There’s also the small matter of a lovely pair of nude pumps that I may or may not have to buy soon, given that they’re only £25. But let’s not talk about that.)

Black and white has been one of my favourite colour combos for a while now, and that works out well for me, seeing as it’s such a firm favourite of shoe designers, too. These will add a classic twist to jeans or pants, or go all-out with a string of pearls and a beehive for instant ladylike glam!

Jimmy Choo ‘Costa’ two-tone patent leather sandals

jimmy choo costa patent leather sandals Jimmy Choo Costa two tone patent leather sandalsI’ve spoken before of my love for combinations of black and tan, both in clothes and in footwear, but these Jimmy Choo sandals are such a good example of the look done right that I had to show you them.

These are simple but utterly stunning, with the curved division between the two colour sections giving them a sleek, elegant look. Perfection in shoe form.

Red Herring white platform ‘Tinkerbell’ shoes with corsage

white platform shoes with corsage Red Herring white platform Tinkerbell shoes with corsage

There used to be a time when a pair of white shoes were considered horribly tacky (yes, I am old enough to remember these times). No more, though: in fact, add a black platform, heel and corsage, and you actually end up with something quite classic and striking, like these Red Herring ‘Tinkerbell’ platforms, which are all dressed up with their outsized corsage, but which will also look great as day-wear, with a pair of opaque tights,

These also appeal to me because they’re a bit of a steal at the reduced price of £28. Click here to buy them.

Penny Loves Kenny suede two-tone ‘Tetra’ pumps with studs

penny loves kenny suede tetra pumps Penny Loves Kenny suede two tone Tetra pumps with studs

Aaaaaand we’re back! Did everyone have a good Christmas (assuming, of course, that you celebrate it)? Did you find any new pairs of shoes under the tree?

I figured most of you are probably all Christmas-ed out after the last few days (I know I am), so today I bring you a shoe that’s neither red nor green nor glitter-covered, or, indeed, in any way “festive”. Think if it as the calm in the middle of the Christmas-New Year storm.

That’s not, of course, to say that this shoe doesn’t have charms of its own. Penny Loves Kenny isn’t a brand I’ve featured here before, but it’s one I’ll definitely be keeping a closer eye on, now that I’ve seen this vision of blue and grey loveliness. The cool blue and grey upper is very welcome after the sequin-storm we’ve been living through this month, and the studs on the toe amp it up a little (and also remind me of another shoe, which I just can’t quite place at the moment. Any ideas?).

So, I have to ask: we know Penny Loves Kenny, but do YOU love Penny Loves Kenny?

These are also available in black and brown, and are $89.99 at Heels.com. Click here to buy them.

Blue and white suede effect sandals from New Look

blue and white shoes Blue and white suede effect sandals from New LookThese shoes don’t exactly say “winter” to me: in fact, that blue and white upper is practically screaming “summer” at me, so well would it work with my typically nautical Spring/Summer wardrobe choices. There’s nothing like planning ahead, though, especially when the shoes in question have been reduced to £19.99 in the sale. For that price, you can guess that these aren’t real suede, but they have the looks to make up for it, and if, for some reason you don’t like to dress like a sailor (well, a high-heel wearing version of one, anyway) when summer rolls around, they’re also available in black and silver.
