Shoe Save # 75: Happy New Year!

D70 9047 Shoe Save # 75: Happy New Year!

SHOES: Ted Baker Keanah2 pumps, c/o Sarenza
SAVED: New Year’s Eve, 2011
WITH: River Island dress; Accessorize clutch

I’m very late with my New Year’s Eve Shoe Save post: our holiday season has been so busy I feel like I’ve hardly had time to breathe, let alone blog (so I guess it was a good job I queued up all those posts before Christmas, or there’d have been nothing to see here for quite some time!), but things are starting to get back to normal now, and with just a few short weeks left until the end of the Shoe Challenge, it’s time for me to get my skates on. Or, in this case, my glittery Ted Baker peep toes on.

When I got these shoes, the week before Christmas, I knew that if I was going to save them by the end of the Challenge, New Year’s Eve would be the time to do it, so it’s just a good job we didn’t decide to just stay at home this year! As it turned out, we went to a party in a local restaurant with both of our families and a couple of friends, so the sparkly shoes got to be saved. They almost didn’t make it, though: I was in so much of a rush that I had literally two minutes to snap these photos – or rather, Terry did, because I didn’t even have time to set up the tripod! I think he did a pretty good job, all things considered!

I hope you all had a good New Year, however you spent it, and that you’re all ready for some serious shoe saving: just six week’s to go until the end of the challenge!

P.S. These shoes are still available here, should you want a pair!

Ted Baker ‘Pleat’ Flat Pointed Shoes With Oversized Bow

Look! It’s the bow from my beloved ‘Keanah’ pumps, but on a pair of flats! And, I know: they’re a pair of pointy flats. There is that. But I love the bow enough to want to show you it every single time I come across it (sorry), so while we’re on the subject:

The flats are £90 at ASOS, while the heels are £101 at Sarenza: which would you buy?

Be still, my heart.

I was just starting to feel bad about the fact that the approaching winter will soon stop me wearing my beloved Ted Baker Keanah peep toes, when along comes this closed-toe version, featuring the same, outsized bow.

It’s the shape of the bow I really love here:

The rounded, stylized shape gives the shoes a very whimsical feel, and looks even better in real life (I think) than it does in pictures: it’s perfect for a party shoe, and the glitter upper makes these even more appropriate for an evening out. I’d love them even more in another choice of material, as, despite my recent glitter shoe purchase, I’m still not sure the sparkly look is quite “me”.

These are absolutely gorgeous, though, and they’re also rather nice in the black version, too. They’re £95, and you can click here to buy them from Ted Baker.

It’s funny how tastes change. A few years back, almost all of my shoes had pointy toes. Now they just look a bit dated to me, and I haven’t bought a pair in… well, years. (Other than pointy-toed platforms, which somehow look more modern.)

With that said, though, the shape of these shoes is perfect for the colour and style, and I don’t think a rounder toe would’ve worked half as well. Bows on heels have been becoming increasingly popular over the past few months, but although I’m not really a “pink” girl, I particularly like the pink/purple colour mix, as well as the outsized bow, which has a bit of a “fairytale” look to it. It’s the same bow and colour scheme as Ted Baker’s ‘Lana’ slingbacks, which I showed you back in August, so if you liked those, these are a nice way to wear the same style into winter.

Ted Baker’s ‘Lansa’ bow slingback shoes

ted baker bow slingbacks Ted Bakers Lansa bow slingback shoesLet’s face it, there’s not really all that much you can do to a humble, bow-front slingback to make it seem like a fresh and original concept. I still think Ted Baker deserves some Brownie points for this one, though, although most of those points have been awarded for the particularly nice job on the bow. I really like the pink and purple version of this shoe, with its extravagant looking bow: the black, however, would also make a nice, slightly more sensible looking evening shoe.

These are £90 from Office.
