Well, this is a bit of a change of pace from the bow-and-flower loving Valentino, but these studded sandals are still very much “them”, thanks to the elegant shape and classic monochrome colour. You could, of course, argue that these would’ve been just as nice without the studs, but I think they add an extra bit of interest to these shoes, and create a bit of “wow” factor.
Unfortunately these will also have a bit of “oww!” factor when it comes to paying for them: they’re £659, and you can click here to buy them from Far Fetch.
At a time when many of us are still recovering from the stud-onslaught we’ve endured from footwear designers over the past couple of years, the fact that these ASOS sandals were still able to make me sit up and take notice says rather a lot.
It’s the size of the studs that makes these shoes special: they make for a very bold look, and the chunky platform and heel contribute to that. A slightly “tougher” looking shoe than many of the party sandals we see at this time of year, I think these have a nice rock chic vibe about them, which will work with dresses or jeans/leggings.
I couldn’t decide which of these shoes I liked best – and just to make things even more complicated, the tan shoe is also available in black, and the black one is also available in tan – so I’m just showing you them both and you can decide for yourself!
I’ve been really impressed with Dorothy Perkins shoes lately: lots of up-to-the-minutes styles, but the prices remain affordable, and these shoes will set you back just £45 each. Studs are such an easy way to make a simple shoe more interesting, and I think Dottys have done a good job here of making these look fashionable without going too far over the top.
These shoes are a bit of a departure for Valentino (and for this blog, come to think of it), who’re better known for high heels, bows, flowers and all things feminine. In the interests of diversity, however, here are their pointed toe flats, which have a studded t-bar and ankle strap, as well as studs all the way around the foot. I think the only thing I like about these is the colour, but kudos to the brand for trying to make the humble flat a little more interesting, anyway. If you love them, they’re £514 at Colette: click here to buy them.
No one does studs quite like M. Louboutin. These ones are designed to look like lots of little drops of water scattered all over the surface of the shoe – an interesting effect, and a beautiful one too, especially on one of Louboutin’s classic stiletto peep toes.
These are $1,895, and are also available in ivory, which would make a show-stopper of a bridal shoe! Click here to buy them from Barneys.
I gasped twice when these Burberry Wellington boots appeared on Net-a-Porter this week: first at the very sight of them – well, it’s not every day you see a pair of wellies which could be described as a “fashion statement”, and I do have a weakness for studs – and secondly at the price, which is £235. Two hundred pounds, for a pair of wellies? Not even if every single one of those studs was a giant diamond. (Well, OK, maybe if they were diamonds. That would be a bargain.)
What say you to them, readers? Would you pay that much for rain boots? If you would, click here to buy them from Net-a-Porter.
OK, first up, a confession: even although these boots only appeared on the Dorothy Perkins website last week, they’re already completely sold out there, so if you’re just about to click through and buy yourself a pair, let me save you the trouble. The good news, however, is that they’re brand new winter stock, so you should still be able to find them in store if you have your heart set on them.
As for why they sold out so fast, well, these were listed on the website at £35, but having seen them in-store on Friday, I can confirm that the actual price is £55, so if you were one of the people who managed to grab a pair at £35, well, all I can say is you got a bargain! These are in a simple but effective style, very similar to the many pairs of studded boots we saw last winter. I’m glad this style has stuck around for another season: these are subtle enough to wear just about anywhere, but the studs give them a bit of a kick, and they’re a lovely shape, too. A bargain. (Assuming, of course, that you can find a pair.)
As I said, you can’t currently buy these online, but you can click here to visit the Dorothy Perkins website and view them in more detail.
Of all of the studded shoes we’ve seen lately, these are one of the least extravagant pairs, which is actually a rather strange statement to be making, given that they’re by Miu Miu.
It’s not just the fact that they’re that bit more wearable than some studded styles I could mention that makes me like these, though: I’m also rather smitten with the curvy sides, which would make these stand out even without the decoration on the heel.
What do you think of them? They’re $750 and you can click here to buy them from Bergdorf Goodman.
