1. Stylist Pick ‘Kimberley’ stripe wedge sandals

    Stylist Pick ‘Kimberley’, £45

After all of those studded and crystal-embellished shoes I’ve been showing you, I figured it was time for a change of pace.

Stylist Pick’s ‘Kimberely’ wedges have just as much impact as some of the other shoes we’ve looked at today, but they achieve that impact in a totally different way, and rather than going for shiny surfaces and lots of jewellery, these keep things relatively simple, with a fabric upper and cork wedge. Those are the only details of this shoe which say “simple”, though. The black and white striped fabric, with its knotted front and ribbon tie, is a real head-turner, and I LOVE it. Yes, the monochrome stripe is trendy at the moment, but stripes are synonymous with summer anyway, and these shoes are packed full of details which make them the perfect canvas wedge, as far as I’m concerned. The knot front is something that never fails to win my approval on a shoe, and the generous bow at the ankle is an excellent finishing touch.

Perfect with shorts or dresses for a casual day at the beach, or a stroll around town, these are £45 at Stylist Pick.

  2. Stripe slingbacks by River Island and J. Renee

First I found these shoes by River Island:

    black and white stripe slingbacks

    River Island slingbacks, £50

“Well,” I thought, “It doesn’t get much better than this, does it? Simple shape, statement print, STRIPES… These are fabulous, and quite possibly my favourite stripe shoes – out of a LOT of stripe shoes – of the year. They just cannot be bettered!”

    Then I found these:

    stripe slingbacks with bows

    J. Renee slingbacks, $59.95

Also stripey, also slingbacked, but with a Carven-esque bow on the heel which I think just gives them the edge over the River Island shoes – only just, mind you. Although, with that said, the patent upper of the former shoe would probably be more durable than the fabric one of the latter, and that’s always a consideration.

I may not be able to decide which of these I like best, then, but I think one thing’s for certain: I’m LOVING the stripe shoe trend. (Just in case you hadn’t guessed…)

Which pair would you go for?

  3. Dune ‘BigTime’ striped stiletto pumps

black and white stripe court shoes stripe shoes with red heels asymmetric stripe shoes

    Dune Bigtime, £85

Dune have really been a roll lately with their stripe-tastic shoes (Why, yes, I DID just use the word “stripe-tastic. Forgive me.) I’ve shown you two pairs already this year, one of which I own myself, and now here’s a third pair, just in time for summer.

At the risk of being disloyal to my own Dune stripe pumps, I actually think these ones might be my favourites so far. That’s partly because of the perfect black, white and red colourway, which is just begging to be described as “nautical”, but it also has a lot to do with the asymmetric vamps, which I always think look so much nicer than a straight-cut vamp. The asymmetric cut is also a nice halfway-house between a very “sexy” low vamp and a demure high one: it shouldn’t show off TOO much toe cleavage (if any at all), but it shows a little more design flair than a high vamp, and gives you something a little more interesting to look down upon.

If I have one criticism of these, it’s that the effect of the lovely red heels is marred ever-so-slightly by the mis-matched stripe at the back of the shoe. It’s the kind of detail that probably won’t be too noticeable when you’re actually wearing them, but once it’s been seen, it’s hard to un-see, and if you’re a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to footwear, it might prove to be too much of a distraction.

    What do you think?

  4. Dune Demure Striped Metal Bow Trim Court Shoe

striped bow pumps striped bow peep toes

    Dune ‘Demure’, £85

It may only be April but already this year I’ve lost count of the times I’ve found myself looking at a pair of shoes and thinking, “I’d definitely buy those… if only they had a higher heel.” The rise of the mid-heel is definitely something to be welcomed, and even a heels fanatic like myself can see that the shoe world badly needed a wider range of options in terms of height… but oh, all those shoes which would be just perfect for me if they were just a little bit higher!

These Dune peep toes are a great example of that. They’re basically a “Shoeperwoman by numbers” shoe, aren’t they? Stripe upper, red heel, bow, peep toe.. .I love everything I’ve just mentioned, but what I don’t love so much is the 2.95″ heel, which is a good inch and a half lower than I really like. Don’t get me wrong: I still like the shoes as they are – I just don’t LOVE them, which is a shame, because with that extra 1.5″, these would be close to Shoe Kryptonite for me.

Still, my loss could well be your gain, if you’re one of the many people out there whose been desperately searching for this kind of height. If that sounds like you, these are £85, and you’ll find them at Dune.

  5. Poetic Licence ‘Anchors Away’ low striped wedges

nautical wedge shoes red and white stripe shoes with anchors

    Poetic Licence ‘Anchors Away’, £65.99

Ah, the low wedge! It’s a shoe style that can be a little matronly if you’re not careful, but I don’t think these Poetic Licence peep toes have anything to worry about on that score: the fun, stripe upper and cute little sailboat brooch takes care of that.

These are basically everything I look for in a summer shoe: a beathable, canvas upper (so much more comfortable than leather on a hot day!), a heel that’s low enough to be comfortable for a day of sight-seeing or a stroll along the seafront, but high enough to provide some arch support, a unashamedly nautical upper…They’re shoeper shoes for a summer holiday, and as an added bonus, the canvas uppers won’t add much weight to your luggage, either.

These come in red and navy (But of course: what else would you expect from a nautically-themed shoe?), and are £65.99.

  6. MICHAEL Michael Kors ‘Adalia’ red stripe platform wedge

red platform wedges with stripe sole

    MICHAEL Michael Kors ‘Adalia‘, $145

This week, the blog seems to have taken on a bit of a stripey/nautical theme, which will have come as no surprise at all to regular readers, given that it tends to go that way around this time every year. This year, however, stripes are bigger than ever, and while it’s the chunky black and white ones that have been deemed to be most “on trend”, other colours and styles are getting their fair share of attention, too.

These red patent wedges by Michael Kors are a true summer classic, and an easy way to inject a touch of fun into your day. The combination of summer and stripes is a little like spring and florals, in that it’s obvious to the point of being totally overdone, but these looks are popular for a reason, and if you love them, then you may as well indulge while you can.

These also come in a black and yellow upper, and are available at Zappos.

  7. Shoe Review: Dune ‘Benefit’ striped pumps

Dune Benefit pointed toe court shoes with striped upper

high heels with beige and black stripes

    stripe shoes with high heels

    Dune ‘Benefit’ pumps, £80

I’ve mentioned Dune’s ‘Benefit’ stripe heels so many times now that I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise at all when I reveal them to be my Sarenza Brand Ambassador Pick for this month.

It was always just going to be a matter of time before these shoes found their way to my shelves. I’ve always been a big fan of stripes, and I have to admit I’d been overdosing on them a little lately, seeing as they’re such a big trend for Spring. I couldn’t care less about being “on trend”, but when something I like becomes fashionable, I take full advantage of the opportunity to stock up!

With these shoes, I’d actually tried them on in the Dune store in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, so I knew what to expect, and I also knew that I was going to have to size down. I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m finding Dune’s current collection to be run very large: with every pair I’ve bought from the brand recently I’ve had to go down a full size, and these were no different. The size 3 is a good fit: maybe slightly smaller than a size 4 would be from another brand (are you following this?), but still very wearable, and much better than the 4, which was falling off me when I tried these on in-store.

As for the rest of the shoe, well, I don’t really need to tell you that I love the stripes. I’m very much enjoying the monochrome look this season, and while these are black and nude, rather than the black and white we’ve been seeing more often, I think the bold print will really stand out with a block colour outfit. They’ll work with lots of bright colours, but I’m mostly planning on wearing them with… well, black and nudes, basically, to allow the shoes to be the focal point.

My one quibble with the appearance of these is that the vamp is fairly high, and I prefer a low-cut shoe to a higher one. It obviously wasn’t a big enough deal to put me off them, but I think a lower vamp would send these into real Kryptonite territory, for me at least. On the other hand, those of you who don’t like toe cleavage can at least be reassured that your toes will remain suitably covered in them.

These are £80 at Sarenza, and you can buy yours here.

  8. BooHoo ‘Kate’ crown embellished stripe flats

nautical stripe ballet flats with red bow and crown

BooHoo ‘Kate’ crown embellished stripe flats, £8

BooHoo isn’t a site I visit very often, but I found myself there last week, and my attention was quickly caught by these little nautical-style flats. These are called ‘Kate’, presumably after the Duchess of Cambridge, which explains the crown detail on the bow, although not necessarily the stripy upper.

I love these as much as I love almost ANY shoe with stripes (Well, within reason: I should probably stop saying things like that, because I AM just a little more discerning than my love of stripes suggests!), but it was actually their close resemblance to Schuh’s Crown Bow pumps that stood out to me most:

stripe court shoes with red bow

OK, so one is a flat and one is a heeled platform, but the patterns are identical, right down to the red bow and diamanté crown. Coincidence? Made in the same factory? Blatant, er, “inspiration”? I have no idea. What I DO know, however, is that you can find the flats here and the heels here, although the latter has been around for a while, so is sold out in some sizes. (Shoeper tip: I’ve purchased from Schuh’s eBay store a couple of times now, and have got a bargain each time: always worth a look!)

I like both, but what about you? Which do you prefer?
