Giuseppe Zanotti flower appliquéd leather sandals

At a time of year when I’m wearing boots almost every day, and summer still seems a very long way away, these floral sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti are just a breath of fresh air – or maybe that should be “a whiff of fresh flowers”?

Delicate and feminine in that way that only a pair of flower-bedecked sandals can be, these have a nude upper and a 4.5″ heel, and would make a beautiful pair of wedding shoes (with the added bonus of not being so weddingy you’d never be able to wear them again afterwards), although I also love  the way Net-a-Porter have styled them, with a simple shift dress which allows the footwear to be the focal point of the outfit. (Just the way it should be…)

Jimmy Choo Zinc cracked-leather cutout sandals

jimmy choo cracked leather sandals Jimmy Choo Zinc cracked leather cutout sandalsHigh, metallic sandals are so ubiquitous, especially at this time of year, that they have to be really special to stand out in the crowd. These Jimmy Choo ‘Zinc’ sandals managed to make the cut, mostly because of that wonderful cracked leather, which I always think looks a little more glamorous than ordinary leather, and which has a great shine to it, too.

The intricate cut-outs also merit a mention here: they cover the whole foot, but the overall look is still subtle enough to allow you to wear them with just about anything.

Giuseppe Zanotti Design crystal strappy sandals with bow

Strappy sandals aren’t something I tend to pay too much attention to these days, purely because there’s just no call for me to ever wear a pair, and I must confess, they can all start to blend into each other after a while.

These ones, however, made me sit up and take notice, and I bet I don’t have to tell you why: it’s that huge ankle bow – does it for me (almost) every time. What I like most about this one, however, is the fact that it’s made of leather, which makes it much more hardwearing and luxurious, as well as much better at keeping its shape. Do I love it enough to pay £689 for these? Well, no: but if you do, click here to buy them from Far Fetch.

River Island light pink leather triple bow sandals

river island pink truple bow sandals River Island light pink leather triple bow sandalsIt’s a little too late in the year for me to be thinking about sandals, and there’s a part of me that’s kinda relieved about that, because if these had popped up just a few weeks ago, I’d probably be shelling out £64.99 for them…

While the triple bow and double buckle may seem a little fussy at first, I have a feeling these would look stunning on a foot, and would be the kind of sandals that would look equally good with jeans as they would with dresses.

Those of you who aren’t obliged to wear all of your shoes by next January, and who can therefore justify the purchase of a pair of strappy sandals, can click here to buy them from River Island. I, meanwhile, will have to be content with simply admiring them from afar.

‘Rosa’ flower-trimmed high sandals from Topshop

I seem to be having a “flower-trimmed sandal” kinda day here, so what the hell, I’m going to just go with it…

I’ve already shown you one pair of flower-bedecked shoes, from Miss Selfridge, so here’s another pair, this time from Miss S’s Arcadia stablemate, Topshop. Topshop are really good at making “statement shoes”, and I think these  fall into that category, with their 5″ heels, strappy uppers and tulle flower embellishments.

The big problem with these, of course, will be that heel: even for a seasoned stiletto-wearer, five inches really needs a substantial platform to be walkable in, and these don’t have them, making them true “car to bar” shoes. If you can manage to walk in them, however, they’d make fabulous shoes for a party, or a wedding, say, with the colour working with anything you’d like to wear it with.

Feel like giving them a go? They’re £70 at Topshop.

Timeless strappy bow sandals at Dorothy Perkins

timeless bow sandals Timeless strappy bow sandals at Dorothy Perkins

Dorothy Perkins have just started stocking some styles by shoe brand ‘Timeless’, so the first thing to note about these shoes is that they’re ‘timeless’ by name, not necessarily by nature.

As it happens, I don’t think these shoes are particularly timeless-by-nature. At first glance I was instantly seduced by the bow on the front, which is certainly cute enough, but underneath that I’m seeing something I think of as a “clubbing shoe” – especially in the metallic purple version, seen in the middle of this photo.

Clubbing isn’t something I do a whole lot of these days, so shoes like this don’t hold a whole lot of appeal for me. If they appeal to you, though, they’re £55 and you can buy them here.

Tory Burch pink ‘Wrap Up’ sandals

tory burch wrap up sandals Tory Burch pink Wrap Up sandalsI have a shocking confession to make. You may want to sit down before I say it.

Are you sitting down? OK, here goes…

I’ve never really “got” the appeal of Tory Burch’s famous flats.

I know people rave about them. I know they always seem to be spoken about as a “shoe staple”.  And they’re possibly the most comfortable shoes in all the world, for all I know. But I just don’t get them. Don’t get me wrong: I don’t hate them. They’re totally inoffensive to look at, but that’s all they are as far as I can see, so I’ve never quite understood why so many people seem to love them.

These shoes, on the other hand? These I can totally understand. Sure, they’re so pink you might need sunglasses to wear them, and those ankle ties will have lots of you shouting “Cankles! Cankles!” at the screen right this very second, but still, I’d take them over the flats any day. Anyone else? If so, they’re £295 at Net-a-Porter.

    Prada high leg multi-strap pumps

    Enough straps for ya?

    Well, they’re definitely attention-getting, aren’t they?

These are from Prada’s Spring/Summer collection, and they’re just a tad too strappy for me: I also shudder to think of the interesting tan lines you could end up in if you wore them out in the sun for too long! What I’m trying to say here is that they definitely won’t be for everyone – and that’s possibly a good thing, because it’s not everybody who could afford them, at $720.

The high leg on these means you’re definitely going to want to whip out the tape measure and measure your calf circumference before buying these, too: they measure 6″, and the right fit here will be essential: too tight and they’ll dig into your legs, too loose and they’ll look saggy, neither of which will be a great look.

Want to give them a go? Head over to Saks!
