Dune ‘Glory’ dome-heeled patent peep toe shoes

dune glory shoes Dune Glory dome heeled patent peep toe shoesI think we need a special name for all of these very ornate heels shoe designers seem keen to foist upon us at the moment. I think I’ll call them “Candlestick Heels”, because that’s what they most often remind me off. The ones on Dune’s ‘Glory’ peep toes, for instance, wouldn’t look out of place on an old fashioned candelabra. I think this is why this particular style never really looks like it belongs on someone’s foot to me. There’s just something about this look that seems to be trying too hard for my tastes: it’s just a bit fussy, isn’t it?

These come in black and nude, and also feature one of those strange little peep toes, as seen on shoes by Louboutin and McQueen, among others.  What do you think of the Candlestick heels and tiny peep toes, everyone? If you love them, these are part of Dune’s Black Sand range, and are £220(!).

New Look suede strap platform shoes

new look suede shoes New Look suede strap platform shoesAnother design from New Look’s latest Limited Collection, and… yes. Bit odd, really, isn’t it? That heel. That heel reminds me of something, but I can’t remember what the “something” is. And I’ve been sitting here thinking about it for way too long now, so I’m going to give up and turn the question over to you: what does the heel on these shoes remind you of? And more importantly, do you like it? Shoe designers seem determined to do different things with heels at the moment, and I guess that’s a good thing, but sometimes I do find myself thinking, “Oh, for the love of God, just leave the heel alone!”

Is it just me?

Fendi platform court shoes with double stiletto heels

Gigantic, clumpy platforms like these are nothing new at the moment, so I’m mostly just showing you these ones by Fendi because of the heel. Or should that be “heels”? Seriously, I thought I had double vision when I first glanced at this shoe, with it’s double stiletto heels.  Why are they there? What purpose do they serve? Well, none, really, other than to provide a talking point on an otherwise fairly boring shoes, I guess. And given that here I am writing about them, they seem to have succeeded on that score.

What do you think of them, though? Worth $900? Nope, didn’t think so…

Roberto Cavalli suede ankle boots with curved heels

roberto cavalli ankle boots Roberto Cavalli suede ankle boots with curved heels

Well, if the last pair of boots I showed you vaguely reminded me of a chair, these ones definitely do (albeit it’s the arm of the chair, not the leg I’m thinking of this time. I’ve talked a lot about chairs today, haven’t I?). And also a boat. So… a boat that is also a chair, then. Or actually, hold on a minute: is it actually the bannister of a stair I’m thinking of? Some other kind of carved woodwork? God, I’m confused. I haven’t had enough coffee for this…

Let’s just stick to what we DO know, then: they’re boots. Ankle boots. They’re suede. They’re by Roberto Cavalli. They cost $1364 at Zappos. I think the image of them above would make a very nice print, maybe if you had one of those cool, open-plan lofts or something. Are they a success as boots, though? I’ll leave that one up to you to ponder…
