Marni satin square toe pumps

marni square toe pumps Marni satin square toe pumpsOf all of the toe shapes out there, square toes have always been my least favourite, and, well, these Marni pumps haven’t done much to change that: I like them, but I know I’d like them a whole lot more with a different shape at the front. I AM keen on the over sized buckles, though, and the curved heel, which isn’t really shown to best advantage in this particular photo, is rather lovely, too. And they look great on the Net-a-Porter model.

Hmmm, maybe I’ve just talked myself around?

Marc Jacobs front tie platform wedge boots

marc jacobs wedge heel boot Marc Jacobs front tie platform wedge bootsAfter a couple of recent misfires from Mr Marc Jacobs, here’s a pair of boots I actually like, although not without reservtions: the square toe is a little clumsy looking, and if you worry about cankles, I don’t think the positioning of that tie will do much to reassure you on that score. I do, however, really like the wedge heel and the red colour of the boot on the left. What I don’t like is the price – these are £550 at Shopbop.

Faith’s square-toed ‘Cigh’ platforms in black patent

faith cigh platforms Faiths square toed Cigh platforms in black patentWhat does everyone think of square toes on shoes?

I have to admit that, even although I recently bought a couple of shoes with squarer-than-usual toes to them, this still isn’t my favourite shoe shape: possibly because a toe that’s too square will always make me think of Roald Dahl’s Witches, who had freaky, square feet. Those feet used to absolutely horrify me as a little girl, and I guess that horror has carried on through to later life, and has left me with an unfair bias towards square-toed shoes. This is a bit of a shame, because we’ve been seeing more and more of this shape lately, and Faith are the latest brand to embrace square toes, with these Cigh platforms, which are £65.

I love the bright pink soles and the YSL-inspired sweetheart vamp, but I think I’d probably like these even more with a rounded or almond toe. What do you think?
