Meet Kurt Geiger’s ‘Esme’. Esme is one of those shoes which lures you in with her soft beige and eggshell upper – so far, so very soothing – and hits you smack in the face with a bright yellow heel:
With studs on.
And OK, these shoes won’t actually smack you in the face: that would be really painful. The heels are a little bit unexpected, though, and although I do like them, my natural aversion to anything neon tells me that I’d have liked them even more without the yellow.
That’s just me, though, and I’m not sure the bright colour would put me off, were they to magically appear on my shoe shelves, say.
From the front, these shoes look… not quite “sweet”, but certainly innocent enough. Turn them around, though, and it’s a slightly different story:
Yup, it’s our old friend, the spiked heel. This kind of thing always seems to prompt a “love it or hate it” reaction from my shoeper readers: I fall firmly on the side of “love it”, and I think it works particularly well on these shoes, with their pin heels and gold uppers. If you need any more convincing, here’s what they look like on a foot:
Neither sweet NOR innocent, but I love them. If you do too, you can click here to pre-order them from Nordstrom, where they’re £136.45.
I just had to show you these. HAD to. I know not all of my readers are fans of the various spiked and studded shoes our Friday favourite has come up with over the years, but hey, it could’ve been worse: I could’ve shown you the red version.
Actually, what the hell: it IS Friday after all:
These shoes are so completely over the top that I can’t help but love them. Unfortunately, the price is pretty OTT too, at $3,595, but you can click here to buy them, should that be acceptable to you!
Studs! And spikes! They’re two of Shoeperwoman’s favourite, shoe-related things, and here they are, combined in one shoeper package from Buffalo.
I’m actually a little late to the party on these, because I’m finding them only now that they’ve made it to the sale section at Sarenza. They are still available in a few different sizes, though, so your luck could just be in, and if it is, I think these could make a great twist on the classic black pump. Because the studs and spikes are the same colour as the uppers, these are a little less “punk” than some of their spiked counterparts, and its really only when you see them up close that you realise they’re far from ordinary. This means they’d give a nice, unexpected twist to an office outfit, or classic dress.
Oh, you want to see what they look like from the side? Well, who am I to deny you?
There are two words in the headline of this post that probably told you before you even looked at the photo, that this would be a pair of shoes I’d love. Those words, of course, are “bow” and “spikes”. I love them both separately, but together? Together they become a force to be reckoned with:
This definitely won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I love it, and think the spikes really help add something to this shoe, giving it a bit of an edge which would otherwise have been lacking, had it just been a standard, bow-fronted peep toe.
Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the neutral upper yet, have I? Needless to say, I’m a fan of that, too, although I also think these shoes would be gorgeous in some other colours, too.
Luckily, my wish is granted in that respect, and these are also available in silver:
And in black:
Red would’ve been the icing on the cake here, and would’ve made these slightly reminiscent of Christian Louboutin’s Lady Clou slingbacks (although obviously minus the slingback!), but they’re also rather lovely just the way they are.
I’ve shown you versions of Louboutin’s ‘Lady Peep’ platforms before, but I hope you’ll forgive one more, because a shoe like this just demands to be seen, doesn’t it?
These are actually sold out online at the moment, despite the $1,375 price tag, so this picture is a close as I’m likely to get to them. Ah, well, a girl can dream…
Quick Public Service Annoucement: the Christian Louboutin ‘Daffodil’ pumps are now available in bright yellow suede at Net-a-Porter, although probably not for long, because although these are $995, and only hit the site this morning, they’re already selling out fast.
NAP also currently has the Pigalle Spikes 120, which I would dye my hair for:
They still have these in my size. But they’re $1,095. Oh, for a lottery win!
These possibly wouldn’t be most women’s choice of footwear for the morning school run, but then again, most women aren’t Elle Macpherson, and I’m going to hazard a guess that she probably didn’t have to worry about having to walk very far in them. I really hope not, anyway, because that’s a five inch heel with no platform: I have only one pair of shoes with those exact dimensions in my collection, and even I, shoe superhero that I am, can barely walk in them.
These are Christian Louboutin’s spiked ‘Lucifer’ pumps, and they retail for $995. The Shoemeister’s spiky styles don’t tend to find much favour with my readers, but I adore them, and think this particular pair is just prickly perfection.
And what did Elle wear with her Loubs? Take a look under the jump to find out!
