Alexander McQueen snakeskin skull-embellished peep toes

alexander mcqueen skull peep toes Alexander McQueen snakeskin skull embellished peep toesWith the fashion world still mourning the loss of Alexander McQueen earlier this year, it’s good to know that the label at least still lives on. These snakeskin peep toes come with the characteristic skull detail on the peep toe, in a nice contrast to the sophisticated shape of the shoe itself:

These are also in direct contrast to the Oscar de la Renta shoes I showed you yesterday. Both snakeskin, both peep toes, but where one brand puts a delicate cluster of crystals on the toe, the other goes for a gold and diamante skull. These ones are definitely my favourites: if they’re yours, too, they’re £755 at Net-a-Porter.

“The party”, of course, is where you’re most likely to be wearing these crystal embellished snakeskin slingbacks, but if you don’t have a handy occasion lined up that’s just screaming out for a touch of Oscar, don’t worry: just throw them on with a pair of jeans and call it an “outfit”. It is just a little bit of bling, after all…

Beatrix Ong snakeskin panelled court shoes

Yum! I wouldn’t have expected to like these shoes – the word “snakeskin” would probably have put me off, because I don’t always like it – but actually, I think they’re rather gorgeous. I love the mix of colours and textures here, and the end result is a shoe that’s unusual, but still very wearable. These have a 2cm platform and an 11.5 cm (about 4.5 inches) heel, so they’re pretty high, and that goes for the price as well as the heel – these will set you back £749.

French Connection ‘Sara’ shoes with mock snake skin and metallic platform heel

I know a lot of fashion commentators have been claiming that the high heel is on its last legs (no pun intended) and that flats are the way forward, but I have to say, I’m not really seeing much sign of that actually happening, are you? In fact, every day, heels – and platforms – seem to get higher and higher. Pretty soon we’re going to need old-fashioned “mounting blocks” to b able to get into them.

French Connection’s ‘Sara’ pumps don’t quite fall into that category, thankfully, but they are cast in the image of the now familiar chunky-platform: the difference is that these do it a little better than most, and while the gold trim on the sole is a little on the flashy side, I don’t think they’d be too difficult to pull off. They’re £120 and available direct from French Connection.

Metallic snake high sandals from Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge are one of those brands whose shoes look much better in person than they do on the website. That’s not to say that these metallic sandals look BAD, obviously, just that they look a whole lot better on a foot – as the picture on the right shows.

I think these would be great shoes for an evening out: they’re glamorous and good to look at, but they won’t steal attention away from your best dress, or anything else you happen to be wearing, either, and the metallic uppers will make them versatile enough to wear with almost any colour.

They’re £40 and you can get them at Miss Selfridge.

Shoeperwoman’s Shoes: Faith’s Lecloud peeptoe stiletto slingbacks

faith lecloud peep toes Shoeperwomans Shoes: Faiths Lecloud peeptoe stiletto slingbacksHere’s what I got from the Faith online sale I mentioned last week. I told you I wouldn’t be able to resist…

These are their ‘Lecloud’ slingbacks, and they’re also available in silver or snake print, but I was in need of a pair of black peep toes, so I decided to play it “safe”. Was I in need of black peep toes with a 4.3″ heel and 1″ platform? Well, no, not really, but these are such a great mish-mash of designer styles, with the peep toe courtesy of YSL’s Tribute pumps and the red sole by way of Mr Louboutin (Faith have been using red on their soles for a while now: I wonder what the aforementioned Mr L thinks of it?), I figured they’d come in handy.

I also managed to pick up this little green dress for £16 at Asda this weekend: bargain!
