Faith navy satin striped bow sandals

mid heel sandals Faith navy satin striped bow sandals

These shoes are a really good example of the phenomenon of “adjustment of the eye”. At first glance, you see, I assumed they had a mid-height heel, and got all excited thinking I’d finally managed to find a pair of lower heels that weren’t frumpy…Then I checked the product description and discovered they’re actually 4″. Which isn’t really all that low at all, is it? It just goes to show how quickly you get used to certain looks: a few years ago, these would’ve seemed reasonably high to me, but in today’s era of 6″ heels and huge platforms, however, I find myself wishing they were just a little bit higher. How times change!

That’s not to say I don’t like them the way they are, however: in fact, I like these a lot, and have been really impressed by most of Faith’s recent releases: it feels like the brand is finally starting to return to its former glory!

Love Moschino Red Suede Platform Sandals with heart cutouts

moschino heart shoes Love Moschino Red Suede Platform Sandals with heart cutouts

You all know by now what a sucker I am for hearts on shoes (or clothes. Or anything, really.) so it’ll come as no surprise to hear that I’m a big fan of these heart-cutout peep toes by Love Moschino.

These are actually a fairly subtle take on the heart-shoe look, and slightly less “cutesy” than some of their heart-covered sisters. In fact, it’s only when you take a closer look that the heart-cutouts become apparent, and I rather like that about them: the result is a very wearable, fairly classic shoe (especially to someone like me, whose go-to shoe colour is bright red), but with a sweet little twist.

These are $270 and you can click here to buy them.

Shoe Kryptonite: I love Valentino tan and white bow detail pumps

valentino white bow detail pumps Shoe Kryptonite: I love Valentino tan and white bow detail pumps

Every time I think Valentino’s use of bows on shoes just can’t get any better, along comes another shoe to make me drool. I absolutely adore these two-tone peep toes, which use white and tan to such stunning effect.  Even although white shoes can instantly make you think “bride”, these ones just make me think “summer”: I’m imagining them worn with one of those white shift dresses I’m always banging on about, but really, these would work with almost everything. I particularly love the contrast of the tan on white, and the way the slingback is threaded through the upper, turning a super-sweet shoe into a very sophisticated one, too.

I love these so much that I’m declaring them to be Shoe Kryptonite. If you love them too, they’re £529, and you can click here to buy them from Far Fetch.

    Versus patent and mesh pumps

I know I said I was done with mint coloured shoes after my last post about them, but you all knew I was lying about that, right? Well, if you didn’t, you do now, because hey, look, it’s a pair of mint coloured shoes, imagine that!

These ones are by Versus, and are £440 at Net-a-Porter. They’re also slightly different from the multitude of other mint heels we’ve been seeing recently, because they’re not sandals. Instead, these combine a closed toe with a slingback, and use mesh sections in between the patent leather to give the impression of there being less “shoe” than there actually is here.

I think this is a shoe I’d really need to see in person to make my mind up about: I (naturally) love the colour, but I’m not so keen on the shape, as I always find closed toe slingbacks a little dated looking.

If you’re less obsessed with the colour mint than I am, however, for just £10 more you can have another take on the “mesh and patent” look from Versus:

Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Amber’ yellow suede platform sandals

When I first came across these shoes, I thought ‘Amber’ was the name of the style, and I got really excited thinking that, hey, Giuseppe Zanotti had named a shoe after me, so I’d just HAVE to buy it. Well, it would be the very least I could do, wouldn’t it?

Sadly, ‘Amber’ is just the name of the colour, not of the shoe itself, so I have no such excuse. I do still love the shoes, though: I have two pairs in this colour now, and find it surprisingly versatile, as well as being very eye-catching, and the shape is rather stunning too, with its skyscraper heel and crossover vamp.

“Amber” definitely gets the Amber seal of approval, then, and if you’d like to give her YOUR seal of approval too, you can click here to buy her. And I’ll stop speaking about the shoe as if it’s a person now…

    Carven blue suede bow slingbacks

I’ve been seeing these shoes pop up in various places recently, so I figured it was time I wrote about them! And now that I’ve finally gotten round to it, I’m actually not sure what took me so long, because these have so many things going for them, from the bright blue suede (always a colour guaranteed to get my attention) to the cute little knotted bow on the slingback.

These are available in a couple of different colours (Net-a-Porter is currently stocking a coral version which is very pretty), but the bright blue will always win a shoeper heart. These are £315: click here to buy them.

Rocket Dog bright blue ‘OhNo’ slingbacks

I think these shoes deserve to be called “OHYES” rather than “OHNO”, don’t you? OK, that was a bad joke, but they’re not a bad pair of shoes: in fact, given how rarely I find myself attracted to a pair of mid-height heels (these come in at 3.5″), they’re really a pretty GOOD pair, if you ask me.

Of course, I’m probably always going to be a sucker for this shade of blue, which is always guaranteed to make we want to take a closer look, whatever it’s attached to. In this case, what it’s attached to is a pair of pretty little court shoes, with a slingback heel and oversized bow. The colour makes them stand out, but I also love the elegant shape, which will work for dressy occasions as well as more casual ones.

These are by Rocket Dog, they’re £49, and they’re also available in black: click here to buy them from Spartoo.

    StylistClick red gingham slingback sandals

gingham print slingbacks StylistClick red gingham slingback sandals

Ah, gingham! It’s the quintessential summer print, bringing to mind picnic blankets, 50s dresses and turned-up jeans (although not necessarily all at the same time, you understand…).

I can’t wait to break out my Schuh ‘Garda’ wedges, which have the same, bright upper as these Stylistclick slingback sandals. It’s such a wonderfully cheerful print, and one that I can’t get enough of, although if you’re not into red, these also come with black and taupe gingham uppers, which also have a bit of rockabilly flair to them.

If you prefer to steer clear of stilettos, meanwhile, these have a chunkier heel than many shoes, although it’s higher than it looks, coming in at round 4.3″.

These are the kind of shoes I can imagine getting a LOT of use out of in the warmer months, and the good news is that they’re pretty affordable, too, at £35. Click here to buy them at Spartoo.
