Charlotte Olympia ‘Cat Face’ velvet pumps

Hmmm. The issue of Footwear With Faces continues to be a controversial topic here at Shoeperwoman.com, and, once again, I have a feeling that these Charlotte Olympia ‘Cat Face’ pumps may divide opinion, in the same way as Marc Jacobs’ famous mouse flats, and the various other face-bearing footwear I’ve shown you.

These shoes are actually rather more subtle than the name “Cat Face” may suggest, and while they do, indeed, have a cat’s face right on the front of them, the fact  that it’s attached to a simple black pump goes a long way towards making these less gimmicky than might otherwise have been the case.

Do you like them, though? Well, there’s no denying that they’re playful, whimsical, and all of those other words that tend to be attached to shoes that come in the shape of cats, or mice, or other cutesy animals. Personally, I prefer my shoes NOT to be staring up at me every time I wear them, but that’s just me, and while I wouldn’t buy these (probably not even if they weren’t $795), I don’t actively dislike them, either.

What do you think?

Jean Charles de Castelbajac Bambi court shoes

Jean Charles de Castelbajac is know for his eccentric, and often wacky designs, and this season the designer has been busy celebrating the magic of Disney in general, and Bambi in particular, hence the existence of these shoes, which come complete with a face, ears and tail. I actually thought they were supposed to be foxes, or little dogs at first: such is the difficulty of turning a baby deer into a court shoe – and trust me, that’s not a sentence I ever thought I’d type.

Now, clearly these shoes are designed for those who don’t take themselves too seriously, and who’re happy to endure endless questions about why they’re wearing two little animals on their feet. Oh, and for people who have £520 to spend on what is essentially a novelty item.

Are they designed for you, then? Click here to buy them if so…

Dolce & Gabbana’s suede ‘face’ wedges

dolce gabbana face wedges Dolce & Gabbanas suede face wedgesThese shoes freak me out. They look like they’re actually alive, and if I had them in my life, I’d probably spend most of my time feeling like someone was watching me. Such are the perils of an over-active imagination.

That aside, the design of these shoes doesn’t really appeal to me either. Call me crazy, but I just prefer my footwear to come WITHOUT a face, and these obviously fall short on that score. They are, however, pretty dramatic: they have a 15cm heel and 5cm platform, and even without the face, they’d be striking. With it, you have a guaranteed talking point, which I guess is something, at least. They’re £709 and are available from Far Fetch.

Jean Charles De Castelbajac leopard print shoes

Not just leopard print, but more or less the whole leopard. Plus tail. And whiskers. These shoes are by Jean Charles De Castelbajac, and given that this is the man who brought us a jacket made entirely from Kermit the Frog, we probably shouldn’t be surprised. That doesn’t mean we can’t be equal parts horrified and amused, though. Or, you know, just horrified.

Do you want your shoes to have tails? If you do, these are $746 at Colette.
