Betsey Johnson silver sequin ‘Laws shoes

betsey johnson law shoes Betsey Johnson silver sequin Laws shoesThese are real “Friday night” shoes, so I figured it was only right that I show them to you today. The Christmas party season always tends to dim my enthusiasm for sequined shoes a little, through sheer over-exposure to the sight of them. These Betsey Johnson sandals have managed to revive my interest a little, though, not just because they’re impossible to ignore, but also because I love the little flower on the front, and the way it softens up the overall look of these.

I don’t think I’ll ever really be much of a sequins girl, but if you are, you can buy these at Piperlime, where they’re $129.99.

Harumi Watanabe sequin and glitter pumps

sequin and glitter shoes Harumi Watanabe sequin and glitter pumpsMy, my! Sequins AND glitter, together on the same shoe! Sounds a bit like the kind of thing a pre-schooler would do to a shoe if he was given five minutes alone with it and the craft table: and, actually, it kind of LOOKS like that too, doesn’t it? Those over-lapping sequins, combined with the multicolured glitter, make me think of the kind of thing I’d proudly drag home from nursery school (kindergarten) and make my parents put on display, although if I’d had those kind of mad skillz as a child, I could’ve called myself Harumi Watanabe and charged £371 per pair. Another opportunity missed!

These are presumably designed to appeal to those who take a magpie approach to shoe shopping, going for all that glitters and shines. These shoes will do both: if that sounds good to you, you can buy them  at Louisa Via Roma.

Because it can’t be ALL heels, ALL the time (just most of the time), here’s a little something for those of you who like your shoes a little more causal/comfortable.

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m very much a “sneakers are only for the gym” kinda girl, but if I absolutely had to wear a pair for non-exercise purposes, a classic pair of Converse isn’t a bad place to start. The fact that these ones are covered in sequins is just an added bonus as far as I’m concerned!

Valentino sequined rosette mid-heel peep toes

It’s not often that you find sequins adorning a shoe with a mid-height heel. Flats, yes. High heels? Definitely. But the mid heel is often forgotten when it comes to glamour, and while these are actually higher than they look, at 3″, I thought those of you who prefer something a little lower (but not too low) than the towering stilettos we usually see in the “evening” section might appreciate them. I actually appreciate them myself: Valentino very rarely gets it wrong, and these shoes are no exception: if only they weren’t £545!

Sequin embellished flats/khussa shoes from River Island

khussa shoes Sequin embellished flats/khussa shoes from River Island

The shape of these shoes is really similar to the Indian khussa shoes I used to wear constantly a few years ago. I used to buy them from eBay and wear them around the house as “slippers”, although I’d happily wear them outdoors on dry summer days, too. They’re comfortable, but still look stylish, and I absolutely loved them: I know a lot of people like to wear the silver, gold or white versions as wedding shoes, too.

Time passed, though, and the hundreds of pairs of khussas available slowly dwindled. I haven’t owned a pair for a few years now, but these versions of the style from River Island have reminded me to have a look for them. The pairs I used to buy came in all the colours of the rainbow, and with beautiful embroidery or sequins on them. These ones, meanwhile, come in silver or red – they’re £24.99 at River Island.

Iron Fist ‘Ruby Slippers’ red sequined ‘Dorothy’ shoes

There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home!

Well, you certainly won’t be in Kansas any more when you wear th… You’re already tired of the Wizard of Oz references, aren’t you? Sorry. I’ll stop now. And actually, it always seems really lazy to refer to any and all red sparkly shoes as “Dorothy Shoes” but I’m probably going to keep on doing it, because it just seems so appropriate. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

As if the red sequined uppers (complete with bow) weren’t quite kitsch enough, Iron Fist have gone ahead and added a black and white striped heel to these shoes. They’re all about the drama, and are the kind of shoes you’re only going to want to slip into when you’re happy to be the centre of attention. Or when you’re lounging around the house in your pyjamas: your choice.

New Look do Chanel: sequined toe-cap court shoes

new look chanel shoes New Look do Chanel: sequined toe cap court shoes

OK, so these shoes aren’t a patch on the ones Kelly Osbourne wore earlier this week. In fact, they could only really be described as “Chanel-like” if you kind of half-closed your eyes and looked at them through your fingers. Still, if that classic, cap-toed look is what you’re after, you may just love these. I think the sequined uppers are a lot of fun, and make what can be a very mature (for want of a better word) style up to date.

These are just £22 and also come in blue and pink, and while I’m not adverse to buying cheap shoes, I do think that sequins can make even an expensive shoe look cheap if they’re not done right, so this is a shoe I’d need to see in person before I’d actually buy it.
