Rupert Sanderson ‘Hamelin’ purple mesh shoes

Mesh shoes have never been one of my favourite styles. I always think a mesh upper can make a shoe look cheaper than it really is, and they also break my “more foot than shoe” rule, which rules out a lot of this kind of style.

These shoes, however, are a little more interesting than usual, and I’m curious to know what you all think of them. I do like the colour, which was the main thing that brought these to my attention, but I think a contrasting solid upper would work better here – or make me like them more, at least – than the mesh.

What do you think?

I think the re-emergence of the pointed toe has finally started to reach that point for me where it no longer looks odd, or dated – it just looks like one more option for beautiful shoes.

Case in point: when I found these Rupert Sanderson shoes on the Spartoo website, it took a few seconds for the toe shape to even register with me. Instead, I noticed the beautiful, deep red uppers (I’ve said before that red can be a difficult colour to get right, and red patent is even trickier, as all too often it can be so bright it ends up looking cheap: these shoes, though, are a great example of red done right), the gorgeously curved sides, and, of course, that little black bow on each toe.

This is a shape we’ve been seeing rather a lot of recently: I always refer to it as a “ladylike” look, because shoes like these seem to be just crying out to be worn with a pillbox hat, a pair of kid gloves and a neat little pencil suit. Luckily, however, you don’t have to take a trip back in time to be able to wear these, and they’ll work well with more modern ensembles, too!

They’re down to £350 at Spartoo: click here to buy them.

Oh my.

Oh my.

Sorry, you’ll have to excuse me: these shoes seem to have rendered me momentarily speechless. That’s what Shoe Kryptonite does, unfortunately. Here’s another image while you’re waiting for me to regain my senses:

See the way the red part of the platform slopes up? So simple, but so stunning. And the grey inserts add an interesting touch, too. Want one more?

If I wanted to be super-picky, I’d have maybe suggested having just one colour on the heel, because the flash of grey looks a little bit like someone just forgot to paint it red. I don’t want to be picky about shoes like these, though, so I’ll just tell you to click here if you want to buy them. Then I’ll sit on my hands so I can’t buy them. It’s a tough life for a shoe superhero, you know…

Rupert Sanderson Muscadet velvet pumps

The uppers on these are velvet, which gives them a very sumptuous feel, while the knotted fronts give a nice twist (literally) to a classic style:

Gorgeous. Now, who wants to pay £490 for them? Anyone? Head over to Net-a-Porter if you do!

Rupert Sanderson double buckle gladiator sandals

rupert sanderson gladiator Rupert Sanderson double buckle gladiator sandalsThis is the second pair of black and gold shoes I’ve featured here today, but I hope you’ll forgive me for that once you’ve had the chance to gaze upon the loveliness of these Rupert Sanderson sandals.

These don’t look particularly “gladiator-like” to me, but I’m not going to quibble over the name when there are beautiful shoes to be looked at, and anyway, if ALL gladiator sandals were as gorgeous as these ones, I’d be a very happy Shoeperwoman. Of course, the combination of black and gold on a shoe has always been one of my favourites, but these are particularly nicely done, and are dressy without being fussy. The strong lines of these, plus that shiny gold, would make these perfect with a simple dress: they’re £693 at Louisa Via Roma.

Rupert Sanderson red suede ‘Tullia’ Mary Janes

red mary janes Rupert Sanderson red suede Tullia Mary JanesRed Mary Janes. They’re one of those “everyone should have some” kind of styles, aren’t they? And I’ve just realised that I don’t. There’s a gaping hole in my closet where a pair of bright red Mary Janes should be. Ah, woe is me!

Sadly, these Rupert Sanderson shoes won’t be filling that hole, as much as I’d like them to. They’re £220, you see, and in the week before pay day, that’s not a sum that’s going to be spent on shoes. It IS the sale price, though: these originally cost twice as much as that, so they’re still a bargain of sorts, and if you want to get them while you still can, click here!

Rupert Sanderson Ivory slingback sandals

rupert sanderson ivory slin Rupert Sanderson Ivory slingback sandalsWhite or ivory shoes inevitably make many people think of brides, but if you don’t happen to have a handy wedding planned, I think these Rupert Sanderson slingbacks could also work during the summer, for almost any formal occasion. I’m picturing them with a 50s-style prom dress in some bright colour – or, um, polka dots, perhaps. In fact, imagine these with a black and white, full-skirted polka dot number, and you’ll maybe get where I’m coming from. They manage to be both cute and sophisticated at the same time, and if you happen to have £480 looking for a purpose in life, they can be yours. Get them at Browns.

Rupert Sanderson gold ‘Mist’ sandals

Despite appearances, it’s not often that a shoe comes along which I can love unreservedly, without wanting to change something about it. These Rupert Sanderson sandals fall into that category, though: I think they’re beautiful just the way they are, managing to be both simple and stylised at the same time. They’re also sophisticated and sexy (so all the S’s, basically), and the gold uppers will make them an excellent pair of evening shoes, that would work with almost everything. They’re £45 at Matches Fashion.
