River Island light green peep toe bow shoes

    I kinda wish I hadn’t seen these.

I mean, look at them. The green colour, the bow: they may as well have my name on them. And while I do own enough pairs of dark green shoes to have been able to successfully talk myself out of the various new pairs that have tempted me this year, I don’t have a pair in this particular shade of green. Which is, like, totally different you guys! Ahem.

Anyway, River Island have been using this very distinctive bow shape (now copied by various other brands) all year, and I’ve loved it every time. This time they’ve put it on the heel of the shoe, rather than on the toe, and it works rather well there, too:

These are £85, and you can click here to buy them from River Island.

River Island shoes: new in this week

    by
    3

It happened again: River Island added so many new shoes to their site, all at the same time, that I had no option but to show you them all rather than choosing just one. If I was FORCED to choose just one, though, I know exactly which pair I’d pick:

river island stripe slingbacks River Island shoes: new in this week

    Stripe slingbacks, £55

These black and white stripe slingbacks have gone straight onto my wishlist. I absolutely LOVE the bold print, and the shape is perfect, too. These are just so much fun, and while I’d like them even more without the slingback, I don’t object to slingbacks in the way so many people seem to, so I could definitely live with it.

These shoes, meanwhile, fall into the small, but distinctive, category of “shoes which remind me of lingerie”. They look a bit like they belong in a French boudoir, don’t they? They’re pretty, but I have no idea how or when I’d wear them. I’d give it my best shot, though…

gold glitter shoes River Island shoes: new in this weekGold glitter platforms, £45

If you were hoping to avoid glitter this season, I’m afraid you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

pink peep toe bow shoes River Island shoes: new in this weekLight pink peep toe bow shoes, £65

Yes, it’s that’s distinctive “River Island bow”, which now seems to be popping up everywhere. I guess you know you have a popular design when other brands start copying you, right? This time it’s attached to a beigey-pink Mary Jane.

    Finally, for something completely different:

gold mid claf boots River Island shoes: new in this weekGold mid-calf boots, £80

I don’t wear flat boots unless I absolutely have to. If I absolutely had to wear these ones, though, I’d at least be able to take comfort in the fact that they’re probably as “glamorous” as a pair of flat boots can get.

What do you think of this selection?

A lot of stores have had sales on recently, which is great news for bargain hunters, of course, but bad news for poor shoe bloggers, who like a constant stream of new footwear to write about!

Thankfully, some new stock is starting to appear now, and, as you’d expect at this time of year, the focus is firmly on the festive season, with lots of sparkly party sandals. These ones from River Island are one of the more interesting examples of the new arrivals, and they come with a thick toe and ankle strap, combined with a diamanté covered stiletto heel. Of the three colours available, I actually like the one I HAVEN’T shown you – a plain black version – best, as it’s the most classic of the bunch. The orange and pink combo, meanwhile, are probably the most fashion-forward, while the black and blue sits somewhere in between.

These are £55: click here to buy them.

Shoe Deja Vu: Charlotte Russe Vs Christian Louboutin Lady Clou Spike

I’m sure no one actually needs me to tell them which shoe is the designer shoe and which is the copy here, but just in case, the Charlotte Russe shoes are on the left of the image, with Christian Louboutin’s Lady Clou Spike slingbacks on the right.

Once again, these aren’t an exact copy: the placement of the spikes is different, and the CR version looks… well, cheap… compared to the Louboutins, but the inspiration is unmistakable, no?

Even stranger is these Charlotte Russe peep toes:

This style has popped up from a few different designers now: does this mean River Island is starting to provide “inspiration” to other designers, too? Nothing would surprise me…

Bright pink asymmetric court shoes from River Island

pink asymmetric court shoes Bright pink asymmetric court shoes from River Island

Ever since I missed out on Zara’s black asymmetric court shoes earlier this year, I’ve been on the lookout for something similar. (I’ve also been keeping a close watch on eBay, but those shoes regularly sell for around £180, which is just crazy! I’ve bought Louboutins for not much more than that!) These pink courts from River Island aren’t quite the same: the colour is the biggest difference, of course, but the asymmetric sides aren’t exactly the same either: the Zara version had a much steeper cutaway, which helped create that amazing shape. Still, they’re a step in the right direction, and while the combination of hot pink + pointed toe is a little too 80s for me, if these also become available in black, I may just have to check them out in person.

These are £40: click here to buy them from River Island.

Blue suede peep toes by River Island and Steven

blue suede slingback shoes Blue suede peep toes by River Island and Steven

These shoes popped up in the “new in” section of the River Island website yesterday, and even although I already have a pair of blue suede peep toes, they instantly started calling out to me. Does that happen to anyone else, or is it just me? I mean, I can find a pair of shoes that are almost identical to a pair I already have – in fact, sometimes they’ll be exactly the same shoes – but do I think, “Oh, those are nice, but I already have a pair of shoes like that”? Nope, I think, “Ooh, GIMME.” It’s a problem, I’m telling you.

Anyway, as I was saying, I found these yesterday, and spent a bit of time ooh-ing and ah-ing over them. Then I clicked over to Shopbop, and found these, by Steven:

The River Island shoes are £60, and are available here. The Steven shoes, meanwhile, are $160, and available here.

Which pair do you like best?

River Island pink pumps with studded platform

pink high heeled shoes River Island pink pumps with studded platform

The Kirkwood-esque style of the platform on these shoes may not endear them to some of you, but it was the very thing that attracted me to them when they popped up on the River Island website last week. Without the studs, these would’ve veered dangerously close to “Barbie” territory: with them… well, actually, there’s still pretty close to “Barbie” territory, aren’t they? They’re in the same county, at the very least, and possibly even in the same town. If that bothers you, however, there’s also a dark green, croc-effect version (I know: green shoes which HAVEN’T been featured here! They actually look more black than green to me, though, so there’s why).

While we’re on the subject of River Island and pink, by the way, look at this:

river island pink shift dress River Island pink pumps with studded platformI know, it’s not a shoe, which makes this a totally gratuitous addition to this post, but I love it. Sadly, I can’t wear this shade of pink because it looks horrendous on me, but there is also a black version. Which, just to bring this back on topic (vaguely) would look great with the pink shoes. Or, you know, ANY shoes….

River Island shoes: my favourites right now

    by

river island shoes with flower detail River Island shoes: my favourites right now

Light pink flower detail shoes, £85

Every couple of days for the past few weeks, I’ve looked at the River Island website. And every single time, I’ve found yet another pair of shoes that’ve made me think, “Ooh, I must show those to the Shoeperwoman readers!” Rather than trickle them all out slowly over a period of a couple of weeks, though, I’ve decided just to show you them all at once, so I can get them out of my system and then move on. Or try to, anyway.

My current favourites are at the very top of the page. I’m an absolute sucker for cream and black colourways, and the little flower on the toe is perfect. The only thing I’m not so taken with is the metallic piping, which looks a little cheap in this photo, but may look better in real life. I will, of course, report back on that one once I (inevitably) manage to see them in real.

    Next up:

river island brogue court shoes River Island shoes: my favourites right nowWhite brogue court shoes, £75

Another black/white mix, and the brogue detailing gives these a very dapper feel: they’d look fabulous with a 40s-inspired suit! The peep toe and slingback make these impractical for me for winter, though, and I’ve promised myself not to buy any more summer shoes until I’ve saved the ones I already have, so moving on…

river island red wedge shoes River Island shoes: my favourites right now

River Island red peep toe wedge shoes, £70

I know, Shoe Deja Vu or what? These AREN’T the Carvela wedges I showed you last week: those had an ankle strap, and these have a Mary Jane one instead. That, and the price tag, however, are the only real differences: these are £70, while the Carvelas are £140.

river island strappy shoes River Island shoes: my favourites right nowRiver Island multi coloured strappy sandals, £70

I don’t generally go for strappy sandals, because I prefer the emphasis to be on the shoes, not my feet, but these have a very exotic look about them, and I love the twisted straps: they’d look fantastic with a loose maxi dress on a summer holiday.

    Next up:

river island leopard print strap shoes River Island shoes: my favourites right nowRiver Island leopard print strap shoes, £70

I’ve spoken before about my love of leopard print and red, and the crossover straps on these add a bit of extra interest: not that the shoes really needed it, mind you.

    And finally:

river island buckle sandals River Island shoes: my favourites right nowRiver Island light brown buckle sandals, £59.99

Again, not my usual kind of style, but I think these look more expensive than they actually are: the gold tip on the heel makes me think of Chloe, or Gucci, or something similar. This is another style that won’t be of much use come winter, but which would be great with a summery dress around about now.

So, now that I’ve shown you these, I don’t need to look at the River Island website again for a few weeks. Or that’s what I’m telling myself, anyway…
