ShoeperStar: Krysten Ritter in Aldo ‘Troiano’

krysten ritter aldo red shoes ShoeperStar: Krysten Ritter in Aldo Troiano

Just to prove that not all celebrities wear borrowed designer shoes (which are normally at least two sizes too large for them) to movie premieres, here’s actress Krysten Ritter wearing a pair of Aldo’s ‘Troiano’ pumps to the premiere of “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23″ (Which is a kind of odd name for a film, don’t you think? Doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue,…) last week.

These shoes also come in black and beige, and are a great example of a simple shoe done right. They’re just a pair of high street pumps, but the bright colour guaranteed that my eyes went right to her feet when I opened up these images. That sounded creepy, didn’t it? OK, my eyes went straight to her shoes, then. And stayed there.

These are £75: click here to buy them at Aldo.

I have the Domestic Sluttery ladies to thank – or possibly to blame, depending on whether it’s me or Shoeperman you’re talking to  - for bringing these shoes to my attention last week: there was just no way I could possibly resist showing you these, could I? They’re pretty much begging me to buy them write about them, what with the combination of bows, polka dots, t-bars, and everything else that is wonderful. And available in red and navy, which are two of my very favourite shoe colours, too!

There’s even more good news, though: as well as being treats for your feet, these will also be kind to your bank account, costing it a mere £24.99. These are available at to pre-order now at Casa Dolce: the website says new stock was expected on April 12th, so hopefully they should be with you very soon, should you decide to treat yourself.

    Aldo ‘Solian’ two-tone leather sandals

Folks, I’m so proud of myself: you see, these shoes are also available in green, but I am NOT showing you them. No I am not. I’m showing you the red version instead. See, I’m NOT obsessed with green. I’m really not. Ahem.

Anyway, the red upper is just as nice, really. I’ve described it as “two-tone” in the title, but there are actually three different shades in there, if you count the white piping around the vamp, as well as the beige heel. There’s something very fresh, and just a little bit sporty about these, I think because of that very piping, which reminds me of the type of canvas summer shoes that I love so much. These are actually leather, rather than canvas, though, which is good news because it means they’ll be harder-wearing, and won’t fall apart over the course of the summer.

The leather upper, however, does mean a higher price, and these are £120. You can click here to buy them at Aldo.

    Well, you can’t say I didn’t try.

Odeon bow trim wedge sandals in red and blue

bow trim wedge sandals Odeon bow trim wedge sandals in red and blue

This time last year, I was desperately searching fora new pair of summer wedges to replace the old, worn-out ones I knew wouldn’t see me through another summer.* And could I find any? Well, actually, yes: I bought two pairs, in fact. But I didn’t find a LOT of them, is my point. This year, though? This year I can’t seem to look at a shoe website without finding at least five pairs I like. On the Barratts website, for instance, I found these two – which actually just count as one, seeing as it’s the same shoe, just in two different colours.

These have all of the elements I like in a wedge sandal: bright colour, high heel, BOW. And while my instinct would be to go for the red pair, which would work so well with my summer wardrobe, the blue is such a lovely shade, and would be that little bit more unusual.

If you can choose between them, they’re £35, and you can click here to buy them at Barratts.

    * I didn’t actually throw those old wedges away. I didn’t include them in my Shoe Challenge total, and I have no intention of actually wearing them (other than to maybe walk the dog, I guess), but… I just couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. Houston, we have a problem.

    Shoes: Head Over Heels ‘Darling’
    Price:  £55
Buy: John Lewis, New Look,  Debenhams

Whoops, I did it again, folks: I actually bought the shoes I was writing about here, as opposed to simply blogging about them. I must get out of the habit of doing that, hmm? Actually, though, I’m really glad I didn’t resist the temptation in the case of Head Over Heels’ ‘Darling’ peep toes, because I think my instinct was correct: when you take away the Louboutins which inspired them (and which I compared them to here), you’re left with a shoe which is pretty stunning all on its own. In fact, when these arrived, I didn’t take them off all morning, I was so enamoured with them. I also may have put them on just to watch TV in last night. In fact, OK, I did.

These have a fabric upper, in that fabulous gingham print I love so much. They have a 5″ heel, which is offset by a 1″ platform, so if you’re used to heels, you should have no problem walking in these.

I ordered my usual size (UK 4/ Eur 37), and would say the sizing runs a little small, although not so much that I’d want to size up. With fabric uppers, I tend to think it’s better to err on the small side, because the fabric generally loosens up more than leather or suede does, so after a couple of wears, they should feel larger. With that said, they’re particularly narrow at the toe, so if you have wide feet, you may want to consider sizing up in these for a better fit.

These have a fabulous 50s/rockabilly feel to them, and my first thought was to wear them with turned up jeans or capri pants. I don’t think I’l have too much difficulty styling these, though, because the red colour is such a neutral, and having worn them around the house with a little black pencil dress, I know they really help brighten up a classic look. My main problem now will be trying to resist the black version that’s also available: can you tell that I have a bit of a “thing” for gingham?

I got these from John Lewis (and may actually have got the last pair in my size, because I see they’re now sold out), but Head Over Heels is also stocked by lots of other retailers, including New Look, who still have these in most sizes.

    Hoss Intropia red three-buckle pumps

I don’t normally buy shoes which have more than one buckle on them: not because I don’t like the look of them, but because, well, I can be pretty lazy. I hate fiddling around doing up lots of little buckles… and then undoing them all again when I want to take the shoes off. Yes, it’s definitely a first world problem, but it does mean that I tend to stick to shoes with one buckle, or none at all.

I would be willing to make an exception for these Hoss Inrtopia pumps, though. They look like they’re  just begging to be described as “sexy”, so allow me to oblige them: shoes, you’re sexy. And also rather interesting, with that curvy heel of yours:

The heel is another detail I wouldn’t normally go for (as is the ankle strap, come to think of it), but I think it works in this case, being unusual, without being totally outlandish:

And also being shiny. Gotta love the shiny…

The colour and shape of these shoes gets them off to a very promising start: in fact, they’re almost approaching Shoe Kryptonite territory. But wait! What’s this on the heel?

buckle heel shoes Brian Atwood red buckle heel peep toes

Oh. Buckles. Six of ‘em. And, you know, I’ll give them points for being different. I don’t think I’ve seen quite this many buckles on a heel before, and that has to count for something. But honestly? If I owned these, I’d spend all my time thinking, “Gosh, I wish these didn’t have buckles on the heels!” and wanting to somehow rip them off. Maybe it’s just me: I’ll generally take a simple shape and a stand-out colour over some kind of fussy detail, but what does everyone else think of these? Love, hate or indifferent?

These are £808 (Yes, really) and you can click here to buy them at Colette.

Moda in Pelle red ‘Rubic’ peep toes with leopard print heel

Ah, I love it when two of my favourite things come together in one shoe! I mean, I love red shoes, and I love leopard-print shoes: I was always going to love a red shoe with a leopard print heel and insole, wasn’t I?

In this case, Moda in Pelle have helpfully made this shoe even easier for me to love, by putting those two colours on a beautifully shaped peep toe, with a conical heel and curved side. At 4.4″, the heel is pretty high, but there’s actually a small, covered peep toe in there too, which should make these more comfortable, too.

As well as red, these come in a few other colours, too: there’s a black upper (also with a leopard print heel), yellow and taupe versions (with reptile print heels) and plain red. These are my favourites, though, and they’re £79.95: click here to buy them at Moda in Pelle.
