    Prada turquoise suede platform sandals

I just can’t resist the colour turquoise, and Prada have made it even more delectable than usual by using it on the uppers of these chunky platform sandals. This shape is certainly very “of the moment” right now: it’s a whole lot clunkier than the kind of shoes I normally go for, but that whole “adjustment of the eye” process has been going on here, and having spent a summer gazing at big shoes from the likes of Miu Miu, Jeffrey Campbell and Jessica Simpson, I think I’m ready to accept that it’s here to stay – for a little while at least.

These have the same shape of heel as the tan Pradas I showed you last month, are also available in black, and are $795 at Neiman Marcus. Click here to buy them.

    Prada cork heeled t-bar shoes

prada cork heeled t bar shoes Prada cork heeled t bar shoesI know the sheer height of these shoes will make them look a trifle ridiculous to some of you, but me? I love them. They’re like a little slice of summer, with their cork heels and their tan leather uppers, and I can’t think of a single item in my summer wardrobe that wouldn’t look infinitely better with them. Sundresses? Check. Faded jeans? Check. Shorts? Well, maybe only if I was feeling really brave… I guess you got me there.

My point remains, though: these would work with (almost) everything, and would allow you to briefly experience what it must feel like to walk on stilts. Shame they’re £468, really…

The Shoes from the Shows: Prada Spring 2011 runway shoes

FP 5776696 LIB Prada 092310 The Shoes from the Shows: Prada Spring 2011 runway shoes

Milan Fashion Week has been underway for a few days now, so I thought it was time I took a look at some of the footwear from the runways, kicking off with Prada’s Spring 2011 collection.

The first thing to note here is that those brogues I was talking about earlier today are back for Spring, only this time they come with a huge, built-up creeper-style platform heel. I like them even less than I like regular old lace-up brogues, but I must admit, I’d love to see the mirrored platforms shown above in real life, if only for giggles.

The rest of this collection is pleasantly summery, with woven uppers and a nice mixture of colours. Take a look at the gallery below and tell me what you think!

Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Prada’s Chandelier shoes up close*

    * or as “up close” as I could get with my phone camera when the staff in the store were looking on with interest…

For anyone wondering whether the Prada ‘chandelier” shoes I wrote about last month are any better in person than they appeared on the catwalk, I present the evidence above.

This is a slightly different shoe to the one I showed you in April, and is thankfully missing the Velcro strap, but while I did think they looked a little more expensive in person, and a lot of work has obviously gone into making them, I still don’t think they look like $700 shoes. I bet they make a lot of noise when you walk in them, too…

Heroes or Villains? Prada’s Chandelier shoes

prada chandelier shoes Heroes or Villains? Pradas Chandelier shoes

If you keep up with the world of fashion at all, I’m sure you won’t need me to tell you that Prada’s chandelier shoes are currently being hailed as one of the “It” shoes of this season. I have to be honest: I’m really struggling to understand just WHY that is, because although I know it’s not actually the case, everything about these shoes just screams “cheap” to me, from the tip of  their crystal-trimmed toes to their lucite heels.

Can we also talk about that clear plastic velcro strap? Or don’t we need to even mention how cheap it looks?

Well, I’ve made it pretty clear how I feel about these (and have saved myself $1,800 into the bargain!), but what about you, readers? These shoes are obviously being coveted by shoe bloggers the world over for a good reason: anyone want to explain to me what it is?

These aren’t yet available to buy, and will be in limited supply when they are: rumour has it that the US will receive only three pairs, so once again, sorry if I’ve just dashed your hopes of ever owning a pair. What do you think of them, though?

Shoes at the 2010 Oscars: Carey Mulligan in Prada

100307A1 MULLIGAN B GR 03 Shoes at the 2010 Oscars: Carey Mulligan in Prada

The Academy Awards aren’t generally a great time for shoe lovers, because while there are lots of fabulous pieces of footwear being worn on the red carpet, they’re normally hidden away under all those long gowns. Which is criminal, really.

Best Actress nominee, Carey Mulligan, however, wore a dress to this year’s ceremony which seemed almost designed to show off her shoes. Both the dress and the shoes are Prada, and Carey may not have won the gong, but was she a winner in the style stakes in this outfit? I’ll let you decide…

Prada mesh Mary Janes with perspex heel

prada mesh mary janes Prada mesh Mary Janes with perspex heelMesh uppers, clear heel: looks like Prada is going for a “barely there” feel this season, hmm?

On the plus-side, I’d imagine these mesh Mary Janes will keep your feel wonderfully cool, even in the warmest of weather.

On the minus side? Well, as much as I love peep toes, and sandals, and all kinds of other shoes that are designed to show off the foot inside them, somehow the idea of my WHOLE foot being visible through the mesh fabric of my court shoes just doesn’t appeal to me. At all. Does it appeal to you? If it does, these are available at Saks, where they’re £463.17.

    Prada heart-front strappy sandals

    by

prada heart sandals Prada heart front strappy sandalsThose Marc Jacobs platforms I showed you earlier this month almost put me off heart-embellished shoes for life, but luckily these Prada sandals have managed to swing things back in favour of hearts on shoes again! The killer blow here, for me, is the little bow on top of the heart, but I also really like the way these manage to be quite delicate and understated, which isn’t often the case with shoes which come with hearts attached to them.

Have they won your heart (groan!)? If so, they’re £520 at Yoox.com.
