River Island orange floral print platform sandals

I know I’ve already talked about how orange will be a big colour for Spring, but did I also mention the floral invasion you can expect to see happening any day now? No? You probably didn’t need me to, though, did you? To quote Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.”

These florals take us right back to the 70s, courtesy of a huge platform, a eyeball-searing colour mix, and a caged upper. I guess the question is, then, do you really WANT to be taken back to the 70s by these shoes? It’s definitely not my favourite decade in fashion, so I’d probably pass on these ones: sorry, River Island, I still love you, but the 70s influence is just a little too strong with this one…

Jimmy Choo Niagra Plex Crystal-Adorned Platform Sandals

Well, I did warn you I’d be showing you a lot of Jimmy Choo this month…

These shoes aren’t ones I expect you to like, necessarily: shoes like this rarely go down well here, but I still have to give them points for effort, and these certainly look like a whole lot of that has gone into their creation:

I really love to look at the heels of these, even if I wouldn’t particularly want to wear them. I like to think that Cinderella’s glass slippers would’ve looked a little bit like this (alebit probably without the platform and studded straps), and the heel is gorgeous, even although the uppers don’t exactly say “£1,671 worth of shoe” to me.

Yes. £1,671. That’s how much these cost. Are you even a little bit tempted?

You know what I hate?

I hate the way that, about halfway through January, as soon as all of the sale stock has been cleared, the stores start filling up with wonderful, summery clothes: sandals and shorts and bikinis and all of those other things that just scream SUMMER.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the clothes. Oh, God, do I love the clothes. Summer clothes (and shoes) are my kryptonite, in a way that winter stuff has never been able to manage, and while the rest of you are all dreaming of coats, boots and tights by the end of May, I’d happily waft around in a summer dress and a pair of peep toes forever. So it’s definitely not the clothes I resent: it’s the fact that it’s still only the middle of January. Here at Shoeper Towers, we still have a good two months of winter ahead at least, and probably four or five before we’ll be able to start thinking about bikinis and sundresses. And by then the stores will be full of winter stuff again…Fashion world, you confuse me.

OK, mini-rant over. You know what I DON’T hate? These shoes from Dorothy Perkins. I don’t hate those AT ALL. In fact, if this was June, say, and not January, I’d be strongly tempted to buy them, because navy upper? Stripes? Huge platform wedge? It’s like a “How to Make Shoes for Shoeperwoman” guide, isn’t it?

While I was placing that order, this skirt would probably fall into my basket too:

Yes, it’s identical to the black and white one I bought in Primark last month, but you know what I always say: when you find something you love, buy it in every colour. And sometimes even multiples of the same colour, if I’m honest.*

I would promise not to wear it with the shoes, though. Well, I would try not to…

(*I do not recommend this.)

Topshop Supreme Extreme platform heels

Well, these shoes are certainly appropriately named, aren’t they?

They’re also – like so many other shoes I’ve featured here recently – very obviously channelling the “Daffodil” look. I say that a lot, don’t I? It seems like this shape has started to rather dominate the shoe world at the moment, though, with Topshop being just the latest in a long line of brands to use it.

What does everyone think of these? I went from not really liking the Daffodils to absolutely loving them, but I’m starting to feel like I’ve come full circle again, because these just look too extreme to me, in an “almost deformed” kind of way. Perhaps I’ve just seen too much of this look now to be really impressed with it, I don’t know.

If you ARE impressed however, you need to know that these are £88, and you can click here to buy them. Will you, though?

(Edited to add: I actually wrote this post a couple of weeks ago – I now see that these have sold out online, and are selling on eBay for £120 and more! If you really love them, and don’t want to pay through the nose, you may still be able to track them down in store…)

Giuseppe Zanotti blue suede platform ankle boots

I have to hand it to Giuseppe Zanotti: I may not unreservedly love absolutely everything he does (almost, though), but I don’t think he’s ever made a shoe I’d call “boring”, and when it comes to footwear design, that’s a very good thing as far as I’m concerned.

These blue suede platform boots are the kind of thing I like in theory, but probably wouldn’t actually wear: I have a feeling the chunkiness of them could easily end up looking a little cartoonish, but I do love to look at them, and, it goes without saying, I adore the brilliant blue suede.

If you want to wear them, as opposed to just looking, these are $925, and you can click here to buy them from Zappos.

WHOA.

I’m sure no one needed to read the title of this post to know that these shoes are by Alexander McQueen: they’re just so typical of the brand’s creative style right now that I bet Lady Gaga has placed her order already! I would be really interested to know who else will buy these, though: I mean, quite apart from the small fact that they cost $4,790 (!), they’re not exactly the kind of shoes you’d wear to the supermarket, say, are they?

Just look at those heels!

Red and pink bow platform peep toes from Primark

red and pink bow platforms Red and pink bow platform peep toes from Primark

There’s a massive Primark opening in my town later this year. This is a very, very bad thing for me, because it means I’ll be destined to be forever “popping in” for something simple like a t-shirt or a pair of tights, and then leaving an hour later, absolutely laden down with things I didn’t even know I “needed” until I saw the price tag . I’m going to try to resist that impulse, I promise. Shoes like these ones, however, will put me sorely to the test: they’re in that red and pink combination which I’ve been loving so much recently, they have a generously-sized bow, a generally cute shape… and they’re only £12. It’ll take all of my Shoeper Powers to resist…

Rumour has it that Primark will be launching an ecommerce website sometime next year. Until then, I’m afraid you’ll have to visit a store in person if you want to check these out!

Topshop ‘Swagger’ platforms in purple and teal

I featured Topshop’s ‘Swagger’ platforms when the zebra print version was released back in in July, but I’m sure you’ll forgive me for showing you the same shoe twice when you look at the two beauties pictured above.

Topshop actually have these shoes in a few different colours – including the ubiquitous glitter – at the moment, but these are the two I’d have the hardest time passing up. In fact, I’m actually making a mental note to avoid going anywhere near a branch of Topshop for the next few weeks, because I really don’t think I’d be able to choose between them, and honestly, who needs TWO pairs of identical platform shoes in different colours?

(Oh yeah: I do.)

Which to choose, though? I mean, teal is one of my favourite colours:

teal high heels Topshop Swagger platforms in purple and tealBut the purple: oh, the purple!

purple high heels Topshop Swagger platforms in purple and tealIt’s actually quite unusual to find such a rich, vibrant purple as this one, so I think these would be my final choice… I’d really like both, though!

These are £62, and you can click here to see the full, “Swagger” family. Which would you choose?
