These shoes popped up in the “new in” section of the River Island website yesterday, and even although I already have a pair of blue suede peep toes, they instantly started calling out to me. Does that happen to anyone else, or is it just me? I mean, I can find a pair of shoes that are almost identical to a pair I already have – in fact, sometimes they’ll be exactly the same shoes – but do I think, “Oh, those are nice, but I already have a pair of shoes like that”? Nope, I think, “Ooh, GIMME.” It’s a problem, I’m telling you.
Anyway, as I was saying, I found these yesterday, and spent a bit of time ooh-ing and ah-ing over them. Then I clicked over to Shopbop, and found these, by Steven:
And then I had to go through the whole thing, all over again. I think I may have an addiction to blue suede shoes. Oh well, I guess there are worse things to be addicted to!
The River Island shoes are £60, and are available here. The Steven shoes, meanwhile, are $160, and available here.
I have a bit of an issue with shoes which have a large amount of embellishment on the heels. In fact, I’ll just say it: I always think they look a bit like they’re wearing a wig. Is that weird? Don’t answer that…
“Wig” issues aside, these purple suede peep toes have been calling to me for a while now. Purple suede does that, I find. While I do love the colour, however, I feel like the flowers look a bit like an afterthought, and that’s even more apparent on the beige version of these:
They seem just a little bit homemade, somehow, and I actually think I’d like the shoe better if was, er, bald, for want of a better word.
What about you? If you love them just as they are, click here: they’re £59.99 at Zara.
I started to develop a bit of an obsession with Badgley Mischka last year, and that obsession has only grown the more I see of the brand, which tends to concentrate on stunning evening shoes which come at a slightly more reasonable price than their designer brothers and sisters.
On paper, these Odessy peep toes wouldn’t sound like anything special, but you can’t go wrong with a black peep toe, and I think the gauzy bow on these ones helps to make them stand out, as well as giving them a delicate appearance we don’t tend to associate with black pumps. Simple but stunning, these are $204: click here to buy them from Zappos.
Every time I see the words “white” and “rhinestones” in the same sentence, I instantly think “cowboys”. Or cowgirls, even. Fancy ones. Ones that are all dressed up for a hoedown, or whatever it is cowpersons do for fun. Luckily, though, these Alexander McQueen peep toes have escaped any associations with the old West (although pair them with a denim skirt and I might be forced to think again about that), although personally I’d still be struggling to find an appropriate occasion to wear them. They have white satin uppers covered with black rhinestones, and Matches say they’re perfect for “good girls gone bad”. Umm, OK. They’re also perfect for good OR bad girls who happen to have a spare £935 burning a hole in their bank account. That’s me ruled out, then, but if you’re still in the running, you can buy them at Matches.
I’ve no idea how I managed to miss these shoes at Luisa Viaroma: they’re so totally the kind of thing I love right now, from the gorgeous colours (they call these “grey”, but they remind me of the sea) to the butterfly detailing on the front. We’ve been seeing a lot of butterfly themed shoes lately, but I think these are one of my favourites, although, given the constantly damp weather we get here I’d probably be too scared to take those suede-covered platforms for a walk anywhere out of doors!
Sorry, I have no idea what came over me there. Zebra’s don’t even make that noise, do they? Moving along…
There’s a whole lot of animal print around for the coming winter season, and, somewhat unusually, it seems to be zebra rather leopard that’s taking centre stage. (There’s still a lot of leopard about too, though. Wouldn’t want leopards to feel left out or anything). These schuh’s (do you see what I did there?) definitely aren’t for those who like to fly under the radar, because they’re practically screaming “LOOK AT ME!” It worked, too. Well, it made me look, anyway.
Shoeperwoman reader Moira asked me to feature these shoes here, and I’m happy to oblige, because although they’re not exactly the most exciting shoes you’ll ever see, they’re more-or-less the perfect plain peep toes: the kind of shoes you’ll wear with absolutely everything, until they fall apart on your feet and you have to spend weeks on end hunting down a new pair.
Shoes like this are the mainstay of my wardrobe, and, as I said work with just about everything. That would be particularly true of the nude versions, which, sadly, are now only available in a UK 8, but you’d get a lot of use of the black and coral too, and there are more sizes available in those colours.
As I’m sure my friends at The Fashion Police will confirm, I’m a big fan of anything that can be even vaguely described as “retro”. So Shoe Missy, who customises shoes in a “pin up girl” style, is right up my street, then.
These ‘Picnic Basket’ peep toes are absolutely adorable, with their over sized gingham bows and pale blue uppers. So adorable, in fact, that they’re sold out at the Shoe Missy website. Don’t despair, though, because I managed to track them down to Pin-Up Parade, who are stockists of the brand, as well as selling a range of retro-style clothes which have me drooling every time I look at them. Enjoy! (And don’t blame me if your credit card ends up taking a severe beating…)
