Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin ‘Ziggy’ peep toe boots

christian louboutin ziggy Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin Ziggy peep toe boots

So, I wouldn’t buy these in a million years. Not even if I happened to have a spare $1,395 burning a hole in my wallet. For one, they’re peep toe boots, and you all know how I feel about  that. And for two… I don’t really need to give another reason, do I?

Sometimes, however, our Friday Fix isn’t necessarily the most beautiful pair of Louboutins I could find, but simply the most unusual: or, in this case, the loudest.

These are called “Ziggy” – I can totally see why – and they’re currently out of stock, but you can click here to see them anyway.

WHOA.

I don’t mean that in a particularly good way.

Someone must be loving these boots, though, because despite being $334 (And looking like they lost a fight with a vat of glue and the contents of the Claire’s Accessories factory), they’re currently sold out. If you love them, though, don’t despair: there’ll be more stock available at the start of April, and you can join the wait list in the meantime to make sure you don’t miss out.

Will you, though?

I’ve looked at these boots (sorry, “booties”) numerous times now, and I’ve always held off on writing about them here, because well, they’re peep toe boots, and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how I feel about that.

I think these ones could just succeed in winning me over, though:  I keep picturing them worn with some beat-up denim and a tailored jacket, for a nice contrast between dressy and casual, but they’d be equally effective with something a little more formal. I also think this is one of the few examples of a peep toe boot that would actually be wearable for me, because the lightweight uppers wouldn’t be too warm to wear, thus negating the “if it’s warm enough for a peep toe, it’s too warm for a boot” argument.

What do you think? Are you ready to accept peep toe boots into your life – or closet? If you are, these ones are $200 from Nordstrom: click here to buy them.

Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle boots

alexander mcqueen winged leather ankle boots Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle bootsThe shape of this boot isn’t new: I wrote about Alexander McQueen’s Pelle’ ankle boots back in May 2009, and the basic shape hasn’t changed since then. What is different, however, is the bronze stitching and hardware, and, of course, those embroidered wings on the side. I’m a bit of a sucker for wings on shoes, and I love these: I also have to admit that I’m slowly coming around to the idea of the peep-toe boot, perhaps because there are just so many of them around now that I’m tempted to think that sooner or later I’ll have to just give in and accept their existence. I still think that almost every peep toe boot I’ve ever seen would look better without the peep toe, although on these ones it does seem to work.

What do you think of them? They’re £705 at Net-a-Porter – click here to buy them.

Alexander Wang ‘Devon’ open-toed boots

Now, I know these are open-toed boots, and I’ve spoken out against this style many times before, but here’s the thing: I don’t hate these. I just can’t. They’re so striking and unusual, with that lovely mix of suede and lizard-print that rather than simply dismissing them out of hand, I find myself thinking up various ways to wear them instead.

As well as the interesting fabric mix, these also cut an unusual silhouette, with the high-collard heel and triangular base to the stiletto. Possibly not the most versatile shoes ever (They are peep-toe boots, at the end of the day), they’re definitely different, and if you feel they’re different in good way, you can buy yourself a pair at Net-a-Porter.

Atalanta Weller ‘Scotty’ ankle boots with wedge

Atalanta Weller Scotty ankle boots with wedge Atalanta Weller Scotty ankle boots with wedgeThe fact that these are peep toe boots is the first clue that they won’t be claiming a space in the Shoeper Shoe Closet anytime soon. The second, of course, is the cartoon super-villain look they have about them, with that spectacular wedge sole, which cuts an impressive silhouette, no matter which way you look at it.

As I’m obviously not part of the target market for these shoes, they appeal to me only as something to look at. If, however, their appeal to you lies in the thought of actually pulling them on and heading out in them, they’re by Atalanta Weller, and they’re available at Browns, where they’ll cost you £405.

Opening Ceremony bow front suede shoe boots

opening ceremony bow boots Opening Ceremony bow front suede shoe bootsOpening Ceremony isn’t a brand I could claim to be particularly fond of: a disproportionate amount of their shoes could be described using the word “clumpy”, and I’m not totally sure these suede shoe boots don’t fall into that category too.

These do have a couple of points in their favour, however. One is the colour, which is glorious. The other is those haphazard looking bows, the placement of which stops them looking too twee, and makes the overall look a little more interesting.

Are those points enough to make up for the fact that these are, essentially, peep-toe boots? I really think these are the kind of shoes I’d need to see someone wearing in order to know how I really feel about them, but I’m not discounting them out of hand. If you’re not either, they’re available at Far Fetch, where they’re £280.
