Shoe Villains: Thigh-high boot/sandal hybrid from Miss Selfridge

thigh high sandal boots Shoe Villains: Thigh high boot/sandal hybrid from Miss Selfridge

There’s just so much wrong with these boots that I barely even know where to start. Let’s just start with the obvious, then: they’re boots pretending to be shoes. Like The Fashion Police, I deplore this state of affairs, because it just seems so utterly pointless to me. If I want to wear boots, I’ll wear boots. If I want to wear shoes, on the other hand, I’ll wear shoes. And if I want to wear strappy sandals with thigh-high “socks” underneath them -socks that have, by the way, had their toes cut off to make them “peep toes”… well, I’ll hand myself over to the aforementioned Fashion Police, and I’ll do so willingly.

The problem here, of course (well, ONE of the problems here) is that, not only are these boots pretending to be shoes/socks, they’re pretending to be a particular combination that I can’t for the life of me imagine anyone wanting to wear. Can you? If you can, these are £170 at Miss Selfridge.

Celebrity Shoes: Lily Allen’s stripey Chanel peep toe boots

LFI PARISIMAG23 1 Celebrity Shoes: Lily Allens stripey Chanel peep toe boots

The love affair between Lily Allen and Chanel continues… In Paris to sing at the Chanel show, here she is wearing a pair of striped wedge boots by the brand. It must be fantastic getting to be a Chanel clothes horse, but I guess the occassional pair of slightly odd looking boots is the price you have to pay, eh?

Faith ‘Cabulous’ platform peep toes

faith red peep toes Faith Cabulous platform peep toesI love the way Faith like to give all of their shoes names starting with the same letter. At the moment they’re on ‘C’, so these shoes are ‘Cabulous’ rather than ‘Fabulous’. And actually, they are rather fabulous – and very reminiscent of YSL’s recent offerings, too. The red pair make me want to say “va-va-vroom”, as embarrassing at that would be, while the black version have just a little less sex appeal, but lots of shiny, patent style.

I’d choose the red any day, but of course, I would say that…

ASOS ANGEL Sequin Peep Toe Ankle Boots

asos sequin ankle boots ASOS ANGEL Sequin Peep Toe Ankle BootsI hereby re-name today The Day of Alarming Ankle Boots. I didn’t plan it that way, but sometimes that’s just the way it works out, and even Shoeperwoman is powerless to stop it.

As we noted last week, sequins and glitter are currently on a mission to take over the world. That was OK when they were restricting themselves to sandals and flats, but now they’ve attached themselves to boots, to – these ASOS ankle boots look like they’ve actually been attacked by the beasts – and I’m not sure I can get on board with that, especially when the boots in question have – deep sigh – PEEP TOES.

(Seriously, I am starting to worry that, come winter, we’re going to have absolutely no footwear options available to us that don’t have peep toes or glitter/sequins on them. Will there be ANY boots that normal, closed toes, I wonder? Because I just don’t live in a place where peep toes can be worn during winter, even if you DO wear thick tights with them. And I don’t want to.)

Anyway, should sequin-covered peep toe ankle boots be your thing, these ones are from ASOS and will set you back £50. Enjoy!

Topshop’s ‘Astro’ sporty lace up platform boots

topshop astro boots Topshops Astro sporty lace up platform bootsAaargh! The words “sporty” and “platform” used to describe the same boot! Two worlds collide! That should never have even been in the same galaxy! Add a peep toe – TO A BOOT – and you have your common or garden Shoeperwoman nightmare right there.

Here’s the thing though: as much as I know I should hate these… I just can’t. And I have no idea why. Maybe one of those supreme Baddies of the Shoeniverse slipped something into my morning coffee, who knows, because while I’m not saying I’d buy them, I just… don’t hate them.

Sometimes the Shoeniverse works in mysterious ways.

J. Renee’s ‘Brendall’ peep toe patent pumps

I’m not completely sold on the ankle strap. I mean, I could live without it. It looks like a bit of an afterthought to me, but then, I almost always have that reaction to ankle straps, so it could just be me.

Ankle straps aside, however, this is a nice little mid-price party shoe, and I love the red and black mix on the uppers. It’s also available in plain black and purple, and while both are nice, I think the red shoes this shoe to its best advantage, giving it a bit of a vintage look.

Although it’s a peep toe, the dark colours give it a somewhat wintery feel to it, which I guess would make it perfect for Christmas parties, although I can’t quite believe I’ve just typed the word “Christmas” in July. Gah.

Back: and with Louboutins!

purple louboutins1 Back: and with Louboutins!Well, I’m back from my vacation, and it’s taking me a while to get back into the swing of things, mostly because I’m having to spend a huge amount of time online searching for another vacation, to try and take my mind off the post-holiday blues caused by this one.

I’ll have some new posts up for you shortly, but in the meantime, here’s a quick glimpse of one of the shoe purchases I made while I was away: purple suede Christian Louboutin slingbacks, on sale at Neiman Marcus: yum!

Celebrity Shoe Style: Jenny McCarthy in pink Christian Louboutin platform peep toes at the premiere of The Hangover

lfi hangover1071 Celebrity Shoe Style: Jenny McCarthy in pink Christian Louboutin platform peep toes at the premiere of The Hangover

Jenny McCarthy may not have looked like she’d made much of an effort with the rest of our outfit for the premiere of The Hangover this week, but at least she did manage to dress up her feet, in a pair of Barbie-pink Christian Louboutin platform peep toes.

Up close, the colour of these is just a little too bright for my tastes, but what does everyone else think of Jenny’s look here? Appropriate for the red carpet, or just too “I couldn’t care less”?
