As a full-time Shoeperhero, I’ve always felt like I really should own a pair of red, knee-high boots. You know, to wear with my bright blue unitard and red cape? Honestly, it’s hard to hold my head up amongst the other superheros without one. The annual superhero Christmas party is a nightmare for me, seriously… If only I had £595, with which to buy these Red Boots Of Wonder by Giuseppe Zanotti! Then all my troubles would be over, and Superman would no longer be the only red-booted superhero, which, quite frankly, would do him good.
Ahem.
The colour and finish of these boots actually makes them pretty hard to pull off, I think. Had they been red suede, say, or even a soft, matte leather, it would’ve been a little easier, but that bright patent could end up looking cheap if you weren’t careful, and “cheap” is the very last thing you’d want your £595 boots to look, isn’t it?
That said, they’re the most interesting boots I’ve seen all year, and possibly for even longer than that, and they ARE just begging to worn with a cape, so I think they’ve earned their place on Shoeperwoman’s shoe blog, if not on Shoeperwoman’s feet.
At first glance, they’re just a regular pair of red patent pumps. But look!
A little red bow will get me every time, especially when it’s a little bit stylised, like this one is with its square centre and flat sides.
The closeup also reveals the platform to be suede, which makes for a fabulous contrast with the red patent uppers, and helps turn the shoes from just “nice” to “special”.
These are £100 at Kurt Geiger: click here to buy them,
The contrast of white and another, brighter colour, always says “summer” to me: and also “sports” for some reason.
These Miu Miu sandals are far from sporty, but imagine them with something like a white tennis dress, worn while sipping Pimms on the lawn on a sunny afternoon. Perfect!
These are £325: click here to buy them from Net-a-Porter.
“Sexy 100″ isn’t just my opinon of these shoes: it’s their actual name. It’s a good name, too, I think: well, it doesn’t really get much sexier than this in the shoe world, does it?
These are actually sold out at Net-a-Porter right now (and no wonder), but you should still be able to pick them up in larger department stores or Louboutin boutiques. Click here to see some more images in the meantime…
Available in a selection of colours, these have a 6 3/4″ cork heel and platform. I’ve shown the bright red version because it’s (obviously) my favourite, but let’s face it: no one’s going to be talking about the colour, are they?
If February was The Month of River Island around here, I hereby give you fair warning that March is looking very likely to be The Month of Topshop. I’ve been really impressed with their shoe collection this season, and could happily spend a small fortune there. I’m not going to, though, because I’ve already spent all my money on summer dresses, which I won’t be able to wear for MONTHS yet. I am awesome like that. Instead, I’m going to tempt all of you with lovely shoes instead, and the first pair I’m bringing you from the Top of Shops is these ‘Laney’ sandals, which will really help you get your nautical on this summer, no?
In the classic mix of red, white and blue (like a flag, but for your feet), these will look good with shorts, dresses, jeans, oh, you name it. I’d wear them with a white sundress, to really let them shine, but they’ll be versatile enough to work with so many other summer outfits too.
Over at The Fashion Police, I write a lot about what I refer to as the “Dress Like a Toddler Trend” - i.e. adults wearing clothes which look like they’d be much more at home on a small child. Hats with ears and anything that can be described as a “onesie” all fit into this category, and so, I would argue, do these shoes. OK, they may not be quite right on a toddler, exactly, but I had several pairs of shoes that looked very much like these when I wasn’t much older than that, and when I came across them on the Topshop website, I actually thought I’d stumbled onto a site for children’s clothes instead.
From this, you can probably tell that I’m not keen on this look at all, and I think it would take some clever styling for these not to infantilize their wearer in one easy move. Could you do it, do you think? What would you wear with them, if so?
