kitten heel shoes Colourful kitten heels from Next

I’ve said before that kitten heels aren’t my favourite style of shoe, and I don’t think they ever will be: I’m one of those people who likes her shoes to be either very high, or totally flat, with nothing in between. The style has been going through a resurgence in popularity recently, however, and if you’re a fan of the kitten heel, Next has one of he best selections on the high street right now, with all of the shoes shown above retailing for £25.  I do love the uppers they’ve used on these, particularly the striped ones, and, of course, the red and blue bow-front styles. There are a few other colours available too, so if you want to take a longer look, click here.

Making the Shoe Challenge harder on myself…

    by

Green platform slingbacks Making the Shoe Challenge harder on myself...I had planned to make the next Shoe Challenge a little easier on myself. “I’ll get rid of a few pairs of shoes before it starts,” I told myself. “Then I’ll just make sure I don’t buy any new pairs until it’s over.”

Then the very next day, I walked into River Island and was confronted by these babies:

Black and white toe cap court shoes from Next

I’m really loving Next’s work in the shoe department right now: first we had those adorable polka dot pumps, and now these classic toe-cap pumps, which have cute brogue detailing on the trim, and a little bow on the toe: perfect. (There’s also the small matter of a lovely pair of nude pumps that I may or may not have to buy soon, given that they’re only £25. But let’s not talk about that.)

Black and white has been one of my favourite colour combos for a while now, and that works out well for me, seeing as it’s such a firm favourite of shoe designers, too. These will add a classic twist to jeans or pants, or go all-out with a string of pearls and a beehive for instant ladylike glam!

I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any more shoes this close to the end of the challenge, because all I’d be doing would be making it harder for myself to actually finish it, but damn, Next are making that promise really hard to keep…

These shoes are… well, they’re just adorable, aren’t they? Adorable and reasonably priced, at £35: my promise to myself is getting shakier by the second here! I love the red patent bow, the cute polka dots and the pointed-toe covered platform. I’m a little less keen on the fabric uppers, which will make these harder to maintain (and will also make them very much a spring/summer shoe for me - I wouldn’t want to risk them in the mud around Shoeper Towers at this time of year), but at £35 I’m not going to hold it against them, either.

Next have filed these under “50s-style courts”, and I’d have to agree with that – they’d be the perfect finishing touch to a retro dress (but then again, they’d also look cute with just about anything, wouldn’t they?).

Guess what MY first post-Shoe-Challenge purchase is going to be?

Black leather over-the-knee clog boots from Next

black leather over the knee clog boots Black leather over the knee clog boots from NextThese are the kind of boots I know I probably shouldn’t like – they have a bit of a “Santa’s Little Helper” vibe about them, and then there’s the whole “clog” thing – but as the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, I find myself wanting to abandon all hope and embrace any kind of shoe that will just keep me warm. And hey, you have to admit, these are a whole lot better than Uggs!

I would have to see these in real life to know whether they’d be worth £95 to me. I know some of the cheaper brands only put the warm “lining” on the top of the boot (New Look are guilty of this, although for the prices they charge it’s not surprising), so you get the LOOK of a super-cosy boot without all of the benefits of them. If these are, indeed, lined all the way to the toe, however, I think I could get over any lingering ‘Father Christmas’ associations and just enjoy the feeling of warm toes. I still prefer Topshop’s shearling over-the-knee boots, but these ones are a little bit cheaper: click here to buy them from Next.

Blue suede-effect platform court shoes from Next

blue suede shoes Blue suede effect platform court shoes from NextAfter writing about those blue suede Carvela platforms earlier this week, I stumbled upon this much more budget-friendly version from Next. Can you believe these are only £24? I thought it was a typo at first glance, and while the price is a big clue that the uppers aren’t real suede, I still think these look fantastic for the price. They’d be an easy and inexpensive way to add a pair of show-stopping heels to your collection, and one of my favourite things about Next is that their shoes come in half-sizes, making it much easier to find the perfect fit.

I have a feeling these won’t be available for too long at that price, so if you love them, you might want to grab ‘em before they’re gone. Click here to visit the Next website.

Khaki gold-trimmed court shoes from Next

khaki gold court shoes next Khaki gold trimmed court shoes from Next

Next’s Autumn/Winter stock started to appear on their website last week, and as depressing as I always find the arrival of winter stock, I figured it would be rude not to take a look…

These khaki and gold court shoes were just one of the pairs of winter shoes that took my fancy. They’re not at all what the phrase “khaki shoes” would normally suggest to me, and I think I’d like them even more if the uppers were green or brown instead, but as they are they’re rather unusual, and the gold trim gives them a vaguely art deco kind of feel.

These are £40: buy them here.

(Shoes, red canvas flats from Next, last worn here; playsuit, George, sung;asses, Gucci; ring, souvenir from Greece)

When the sun shines in Scotland, you have to be prepared to just drop everything and run out to enjoy it, because it could well be pouring with rain (or snowing) five minutes later. So that’s exactly what I did. The smell of my sunscreen totally takes me back to Florida. When I close my eyes, I can almost be on vacation again…
