Shoeper Roundup: New Look shoes January 2012

new look shoes Shoeper Roundup: New Look shoes January 2012

New Look, as I’m sure most of my regular readers have realised by now, is one of my guilty pleasures: the knowledge that I can pop in and buy a pair of shoes for £30 or less is often just too much temptation for me, and is also why I’ve been avoiding the store like the plague in the final few weeks of the Shoe Challenge.

Today, though, I took a look at the website, and have already added quite a few pairs to my “When the Shoe Challenge is over” list. My three favourites are at the top of the page: unbelievably, the green satin shoes are down to just £7 – SEVEN. POUNDS. – in the sale, so there’s virtually no chance of them still being around by the time I can buy them ( and I’m always a bit wary of cheap satin which can look, well, cheap), but if you fancy them, you’re probably not going to find a cheaper pair of shoes anywhere.

The other piece of good New Look news is that they started stocking a wider range of other shoe brands at the end of 2011. I’ve included some Kandee shoes in the selection below, but you can also buy brands like Dune, Iron Fist and others, so even if you don’t love New Look itself, it’s still worth a look. You’ll find all of the shoes pictured at the New Look website: which are your favourites?

I’ve no idea how I managed to miss these shoes when they first appeared on the New Look website, but there they were this morning, already sold out in quite a few sizes: I just had to put that out there quickly, in case any of you had your fingers poised on the mouse button, ready to buy them. Sorry. You may well still be able to find them in store, however, if yours is one of the sizes which is no longer available online.

Now, these aren’t the most sophisticated shoes out there, but they’re cute, they’re bright (or at least, the red pair is), they’re versatile, and… they’re £24.99. What more can you ask?

Yes, it’s another pair of red suede boots. They seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment, without me even having to look for them, just as green suede shoes did all summer. And you know, if it wasn’t for the fear of looking like one of Santa’s elves (Red boots at Christmas time can be a tricky look to pull off!), I could very easily be tempted by these ones. They’re only £50, but they’re real suede, and I think they look a little more expensive than the price on the tag.

I also like the beige version, but as they’d be even less practical at this time of year than the red, I know which ones I’d be going for!

These are from New Look, but are only available online, and at selected stores: click here to buy them.

Dear New Look,

Thank you for not releasing these shoes during the summer, when it was still warm enough for me to consider buying open-toed shoes. If you had, I would have YET ANOTHER pair of green shoes in my collection, and would be even further behind with my Shoe Challenge than I am already.

As it stands, however, I would really struggle to wear these by February 14th, so there is no way I can justify buying them, even although they ARE only £24.99. So thank you.

Love,

Shoeperwoman

P.S. I might just buy them anyway, though.

(These aren’t yet available on the New Look website: look out for them soon, though!)

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have already seen the photo above, which I snapped in New Look on Saturday afternoon, having spotted a pair of sparkly ankle boots on the shelves, and been completely unable to resist trying them on. To be honest, I really just tried them for the sheer hell of it – I mean, sparkles? On a boot? SO not my thing! – but once they were on, I somehow found it really hard to convince myself to take them off again. Or, indeed, to walk out of the store without them.

Because the lighting in the store isn’t ideal for phonecam pictures, this photo is a little bit misleading, in that the light is glancing off the boots and making them look like they’re covered in glitter. As you can see from the product shot, though, it’s actually a kind of snake-effect patent, which is very effective at providing shine without making you worry that you’ll leave a trail of glitter everywhere you go:

sparkly ankle boots Sparkly ankle boots from New LookThese looked good with the black leggings I was wearing at the time and because of the low-cut shoe boot style, I think they’d also look good, and add a bit of a “rock chick” vibe to black skinnies, or a dress with tights. Much to my surprise, I loved them, and although I did leave without them (I was on a strict mission to buy some replacement contact lenses and nothing else that day. Just don’t ask what I was doing in New Look when I was supposed to only be buying contact lenses…) I may well be tempted by them next time I have a bit of spare cash.

As for how much spare cash you’d need for these – why, just £24.99: bargain!

Last winter, I fell in love with a pair of leather shoe boots from Aldo, in the perfect shade of “nude” (for me). And I didn’t buy them. I feel like a lot of my shoe-stories begin and end with me loving shoes and not buying them, but honestly, that’s how I seem to go through life. You’d think I’d have learned my lesson by now, wouldn’t you?

I had good reason for not buying those boots, though, because as well as being a little out of my budget at the time, they were also a very pale leather, and while I’ve never been one to shy away from the idea of impractical footwear, I felt that pale leather boots were too much even for me: those babies were just ASKING to be ruined the first time I wore them, basically.

Enter these New Look shoe boots. These are also a great, neutral shade, which will allow them to be worn with anything, but, crucially, they have patent uppers, which means that they’re not going to pick up stains nearly as easily as pale, soft leather would. This is one area where sometimes man-made uppers win out for me: if I know I’m probably going to wreck them, then I’m not going to invest a huge amount of money in buying them, and at just £19.99, I think these could be a good winter buy. It helps that I really like the shape of them, too.

Click here to buy them at New Look (who, incidentally, currently have a whole section of “Forties Inspired” fashion on their website right now. The 40s influence isn’t all that obvious with some of the stuff, but I still found a few items to add to the wishlist!

New Look leather platform loafers

Although New Look are perhaps best known for their “fast fashion” approach to footwear, which can include man-made materials, they do also make a range of shoes in real leather, and when they do, they’re well worth snapping up. Well, where else will you find leather shoe boots for £40, I ask you?

Not only are these real leather shoe boots, they’re pretty nice ones too, in my humble opinion. I first came across the black and white pair, which instantly brought the word “dapper” to mind: as much as I like them, though, I think the suede and leather contrast on the brown version is even nicer, and although loafers have never been my favourite style of shoe, these ones I could definitely live with.

These have a 5.1″ heel, so you’re going to be grateful for the small platform, which should make them easier to walk in, although I make no promises. If you want to try them out for yourself, you can click here to buy a pair for £39.99.

I’m starting to see an awful lot of glitter shoes appearing on my favourite websites lately. I have a horrible feeling this heralds the start of the Christmas party season, and that within a couple of weeks I’ll be drowning in a sea of press releases about Christmas gift guides and how to find the perfect party dress. Yes, I know it’s not even September yet, but trust me: it gets earlier every year, to the point where we’ll soon be being urged to start thinking about Christmas on December 26th.

Anyway, I’m not happy about the gift guides, and the tinsel, and the carols I’ll soon be hearing in stores, but I reckon I can handle the shoes. New Look actually released a non-glitter version of this style last year, which seemed to sell pretty well, so they’re presumably hoping the glitter look will do even better. I like the contras tof the silver and blue version, but I actually think the slightly more subtle black is even nicer.

What do you think?

These are £24.99 and you can click here to buy them at New Look.
