I need just one word to describe these shoes: adorable.
Because I’m me, though, and my motto has always been to never use one word when I can use 200 instead (this is why I’m no longer in journalism), I’ll also say that these combine two of my favourite things – stripes and bows – and even add a little heart, just to make them even more more tempting. And OK, the heart is actually a logo, and visible logos are just Not My Thing, but I do appreciate the effort to make this one look pretty, at least.
(They’re also very similar to Kurt Geiger’s ‘Dancer’ pumps, which were one of my favourite styles of last year: these have a smaller bow, and it’s the same colour as the rest of the upper, but they’re still giving me a touch of Shoe Deja Vu.)
These would make nicer dress shoes now, but will also look good with jeans and sundresses in summer, with the blue and white stripes giving them a bit if a nautical feel. They’re £67.15, and you can click here to buy them at Sarenza.
As summer begins, so does my search for the perfect pair of canvas flats: ideally in red or navy, which are my “go-to” summer colours. These are just the perfect shoes for a beachy type of holiday: they’re comfortable, cute, and the canvas uppers are very breathable, so although they’re closed pumps, they’ll still keep your feet nice and cool. I would be lost without mine, and tend to wear them out every summer, and have to replace them the next year. Luckily this year I won’t have to look too far for my replacements, because H&M are selling the perfect nautical flats, for just £12 each. If I could only pick one, I’d go for the red pair, but at that price there’s not much to stop you buying both…
If February was The Month of River Island around here, I hereby give you fair warning that March is looking very likely to be The Month of Topshop. I’ve been really impressed with their shoe collection this season, and could happily spend a small fortune there. I’m not going to, though, because I’ve already spent all my money on summer dresses, which I won’t be able to wear for MONTHS yet. I am awesome like that. Instead, I’m going to tempt all of you with lovely shoes instead, and the first pair I’m bringing you from the Top of Shops is these ‘Laney’ sandals, which will really help you get your nautical on this summer, no?
In the classic mix of red, white and blue (like a flag, but for your feet), these will look good with shorts, dresses, jeans, oh, you name it. I’d wear them with a white sundress, to really let them shine, but they’ll be versatile enough to work with so many other summer outfits too.
The perfect nautical wedges: or at least, they would be if they weren’t £265. Thank goodness for those New Look alternatives I posted about a couple of weeks ago, hmmm?
What: Red canvas slingbacks (Matalan) When: Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 Where: Nowhere in particular With: Criminal Damage sailor dress
I feel like I’m cheating a bit with this week’s Ruby Shoesday because I’ve worn this outfit before here, but I woke up this morning with a sore throat and the beginnings of a cold, so it was either go with something tried and tested or go with, er, my dressing gown, which is what I secretly wanted to wear.
Anyone else doing Ruby Shoesday today? What are you wearing?
What: Blue canvas Matalan flats When: Sunday, April 11 2010 Where: Seacliff beach, East Lothian With: jeans (River Island), sweater (Topshop), jacket (New Look), sunglasses (Gucci), bag (Accessorize)
It’s my mum’s birthday tomorrow, but we’ll all be at work unfortunately, so we celebrated today with champagne and chocolate cake on our favourite Scottish beach. The weather was beautifully sunny and Spring-like, but it was actually much chillier than it looks, so I was glad I decided NOT to go with the skirt and tank top I’d originally put on, and stuck to jeans and a sweater! We did a fair bit of clambering about over rocks, so flat shoes were the order of the day too.
I’m so happy that the warmer weather has arrived (I can’t belive it was still snowing just a couple of weeks ago!), but I’m starting to panic a little about the Shoe Challenge: I finally packed away my winter clothes and got out my summer ones on Friday, and I was seriously alarmed by the number of summery shoes I have, and just a few short weeks to wear them in! (And actually less when you consider that I’ll be on holiday for three of those weeks, and will only be able to take a capsule shoe wardrobe with me!). Looks like I’ll be wearing a lot of sandals and peep toes over the next few months!
More photos under the jump, and even more over at my personal blog, if you’re particularly interested…
Having been favourably impressed with Next’s summer shoe selection earlier this week, I decided a further rummage around the site was in order, and that rummage turned up these little nautical espadrilles. I don’t actually own any espadrilles: they’re a style that’s never really held much interest for me, partly because a lot of them can look very clumsy, and partly because they really deserve to be worn on perfect, summery days, and there just aren’t too many of those in this neck of the woods, unfortunately.
I’m still not totally convinced I need to add a pair of espadrilles to my shoe closet, but if I was going to buy a pair, these would be the ones I’d go for. Well, there’d be no way I could resist those stripes, would there?
I kinda wish I hadn’t seen these shoes now. To see them is to want them, you see (or, at least, it is when you love stripes. Did I mention that I love stripes? Oh, only a million times, I see.), and they’re £70, which is just a little much this close to pay day. They’re VERY nautical, too, and I’d imagine will probably end up being the 2010 version of Office’s ‘Love Me Tender’ peep toes, which also had canvas uppers and lots of stripes.
These ones are called ‘Be My Sailor’ and also come in a black and grey leopard print. I wish they’d be MY sailor…
