Shellys Mid Heel Glitter Shoes

shellys mid heel glitter shoes1 Shellys Mid Heel Glitter ShoesAs I scrolled through New Look’s shoe section this morning, these shoes really stood out. Not because they’re covered in glitter, I hasten to add: it certainly used to be the case that a glitter-covered shoe would have a certain amount of novelty value, but these days – and particularly at this time of year – it’s more unusual to find a shoe that’s NOT coated in the sparkly stuff, seriously.

No, the reason these shoes stood out was because of:

a) The height of the heel. It’s so rare for me to find a mid-height heel that I like, that every time I DO find one, I have to immediately show you it. The fact that I hardly ever feature mid-height heels here tells you everything you need to know about how often I find ones I like.

b) The little “curl” detail on the toe:

toe of shoe Shellys Mid Heel Glitter ShoesIt’s cute. It’s different. It makes the shoes look like they’ve just arrived on a time machine from the 17th century or something. (Note: not a shoe historian, no idea which century this kind of style would actually have been worn in, if any. And obviously they wouldn’t have covered their shoes in glitter back then. But you know what I mean, because you are clever.)

Overall, these were a refreshing change, and they’re a reasonably refreshing price, too, at £54.99. Click here to buy them from New Look, who also stock them in red and blue. (I’d have shown you those, too, but the site crashed while I was writing this, so you’ll have to see for yourself, I’m afraid!)

Poetic Licence ‘Apple Pie’ mid heeled polka dot shoes

poetic licence polka dot shoes Poetic Licence Apple Pie mid heeled polka dot shoesThese shoes seemed to be almost begging me to write about them, and who was I to refuse them, especially when they’re all dressed up in their polka dots?

Lovers of mid-height heels will be pleased to know that these are 3″ tall, and have a bit of a demi wedge, too, which will provide a little bit more support than standard heels do. Lovers of all things cute and twee, meanwhile, will probably appreciate the spotted uppers and the little apple closure on the Mary Jane strap.

These are £49.99, and are also available in black. Click here to buy them.

Paul Smith ‘Beth’ natural heart shoes

What’s this? ANOTHER pair of shoes with hearts on them? Already?! I know, I know, it’s a bit much. But there are a whole lot of hearts out there in Planet Shoe at the moment, and these ones by Paul Smith are just the latest to bring themselves to my attention. These are actually much less cutesy/kitsch as most heart-embellished designs: in fact, unless you’re looking closely, you may well mistake them for animal print (Hey, wouldn’t it be great if there WERE animals with a print like this?) or some other kind of design.

I’m actually not sure how I feel about these ones, so I’ll be interested to hear what everyone else thinks of them. They’re £170 from Coggles.

Button mid shoes from Next in red and black patent

I’ve tried to resist commenting that these shoes are “as cute as a button”, but it looks like I can’t manage it. Forgive me.

It IS true, though. Over-used as it may be, I think the word “cute” is very fitting here: the patent uppers and white piping give these a sassy feel, and, me being me, I really appreciate the dots and stripes on the insole, even although no one would actually see it when the shoes were on. It’s a shame Next didn’t provide a larger image of the red version of these on their website, because those are the ones I’d go for, but I’m sure you get the idea even from this tiny glimpse of them!

These are just £26: get them here.

Sabrina mid-heeled suede court shoes from Monsoon

mid height heels Sabrina mid heeled suede court shoes from MonsoonIt’s always refreshing to find a pair of low or mid-height heels that actually look like some thought has gone into their design.

It’s even better when they have a great big stylized flower on the front of them.

And when they’re in my navy, which I’m currently loving a little too much, if truth be told? Well, colour me happy. And navy.

Valentino sequined rosette mid-heel peep toes

It’s not often that you find sequins adorning a shoe with a mid-height heel. Flats, yes. High heels? Definitely. But the mid heel is often forgotten when it comes to glamour, and while these are actually higher than they look, at 3″, I thought those of you who prefer something a little lower (but not too low) than the towering stilettos we usually see in the “evening” section might appreciate them. I actually appreciate them myself: Valentino very rarely gets it wrong, and these shoes are no exception: if only they weren’t £545!

River Island stirrup mid boots

Well, would you lookit that: I managed to stay away from the River Island website for… ooh, a few days at least . This was really good for my bank balance, as it turns out, because while I was resolutely NOT LOOKING, a whole bunch of stuff I’d had my eye on sold out in my size. Awesome.

But anyway, these boots. I like these boots for two reasons:

Reason the first: while they have that kind of tough cowboy/biker look about them (a cowboy biker? Really?), the overall shape still manages to be fairly elegant. They’re the kind of boots that’ll look fabulous once they’ve been worn in a bit, and are starting to look even more slouchy, and they will also look great over skinny jeans or leggings, so I can imagine getting a lot of wear out of them. (That was really a few reasons, wasn’t it?)

Reason the second: they have a mid-height heel. And while mid-height isn’t my favourite height on shoes, I love it on boots in general, and on these in particular it helps make them look even more comfy and casual.

These are £84.99. Get them at River Island.

Pink button ‘Cassie’ court shoes from Moda in Pelle

pink button court shos Pink button Cassie court shoes from Moda in PelleThis kind of mid-height heel is always problematic for me, because I think it can end up looking a little too matronly in the wrong hands. (Or on the wrong feet.) These ‘Cassie’ courts from Moda in Pelle, however, manage to solve that problem by adding a bit of a military touch with the two buttons, and then softening the whole look up with two shades of pink and a gently curved upper.

These could be a nice choice for someone who wants a bit of  height without going for a stiletto, and they’ve just been reduced to £30 at Moda in Pelle.
