For me, these shoes fall firmly into the “look but don’t touch” category: I can’t seem to stop looking at them spin round (and round and round) on the Saks website, but I don’t really want them anywhere near my feet, because they’re giving off an “Austin Powers” vibe that’s just too strong for my liking. Oh, and the £600 price tag is a bit strong for my liking too.
These definitely aren’t your average Mary Janes, though, and if you think you can make them work, they could make a really interesting addition to the ol’ shoe closet. I’d be tempted to carry on the 60s theme, and wear them with a little white mini dress: what would you wear with them?
These shoes are a great example of how a simple touch can make all the difference. My weakness for metallic peep-toes means I’d probably have liked them even without the leaf detailing on the toe, but with it they’re even prettier, I like the the way the leaf overlaps the vamp of the shoe slightly, creating a nice effect around the toe line. These are also available in orange, but, oddly enough, I don’t like them in that shade at all. Take a look here to see if you do, and don’t forget to tell me what you think of them!
Yes, it’s another bow-front court shoe, but the bow in this case is just a little bit different. The actual shape of these shoes is a tad matronly for me (there’s something about a chunky heel and rounded toe that always makes me think of the Queen, although I doubt she’d wear shoes this high!), but I do love the colour mix, which is dressy, but not so much that you’d be forced to save them for special occasions.
I know these shoes will undoubtedly be too fussy for many of you, but I still gave a happy sigh when I found them, because they’re just so damn pretty. In a pale pink metallic upper, they look like the shoe fairy has come along and sprinkled them with flowers. Very feminine and just a touch whimsical, they’re £135 and already sold out in a lot of sizes, so you may have to check for them in store, or wait for them to make an appearance at somewhere like ASOS.com, which also sells Karen Millen.
If you want to check for your size first (mine is sold out – probably a good thing) and see some other views, you can do so at Karen Millen.
This one could be pushing it slightly on the comparison front, as there are a few big differences between these two shoes, but I definitely experienced a sense of deja vu when I looked at Faith’s ‘Linky’ sandals, so here they are!
They remind me of Christian Louboutin’s ‘Differa’, only with one less ankle strap, and a slightly different arrangement at the toe. Faith have also used a snake-print leather, although they’ve kept the red sole (which they have on all of their shoes, not just these ones). These are available in silver and black, and are £80. The Louboutins, meanwhile, are no longer available, but would’ve set you back $1, 495. Ouch.
Emanuel Ungaro have named these shoes ‘Very Hot’, so they’re clearly feeling confident about how they’ll be received. I say WE’LL be the judges of shoe hotness, thanks very much, so… what do you think?
These are certainly different. The mirrored leather and sculpted heels give them a bit of a Barbarella/futuristic feel, and that’s automatically going to make some people discount them instantly. I’m probably one of those people to be honest, but only because none of my clothes have a particularly futuristic feel to them, so there wouldn’t be a whole lot I could wear with these. My guess is that most people who buy them will wear them exactly as shown on Net-a-Porter – with one of the huge-shouldered body-con mini dresses we’re currently seeing so much of.
What do you think, readers: Very Hot, or Very Not?
There are few shoe brands out there who do ballet flats quite as well as Miu Miu. They give their flats the same luxurious, over-the-top feel they so frequently give their heels, and I think they deserve a pat on the back for it, because let’s face it, flats can so often fall into that “practical but dull” category, can’t they?
These ones come in a pink metallic upper, with a heavily jewelled toe, and are the perfect evening shoes for anyone who doesn’t want to wear heels. If I could afford to, I’d buy them just to wear around the house, but at £319, I don’t think that would be my most sensible move ever. If you have better plans for them, you can pick up a pair at My Theresa.
“Looooving yoooooouu! Is easy ‘cos you’re beautifuuuulllllll!” Well, they are, aren’t they? And so who cares if they’re not the most original shoes in the world ever: they love us. And I kind of love them back.
