Well, these are…

these are…

umm…

Actually, you know what? I’m going to let you finish that sentence yourself. Think of it like a little game, if you like. Simply complete the following sentence:

“These Marni colourblock wedges are…”

And the best entry will win… my eternal gratitude.  (Look, I’d offer you shoes, but I already bought them all for myself…)

Going by the toe alone, I kind of loved these Marni pumps. Well, you have to admit, the toes may as well have “Oh, hai, Shoeperwoman!” printed on them, no? They also have that rather nice “Court of Marie Antoinette” look about them, which I’ve been liking recently.

But then I looked at them from the side:

Hmmm. Not so pretty now, are they? The platform is too clumsy, the ankle strap looks out of place… With no platform (or a smaller one, that fitted the sole better) and a closed back, they could’ve been wonderful. As they are, however, my (ntirely fictional) £520 is safe. If yours isn’t, these are available from Browns.

Marni satin square toe pumps

marni square toe pumps Marni satin square toe pumpsOf all of the toe shapes out there, square toes have always been my least favourite, and, well, these Marni pumps haven’t done much to change that: I like them, but I know I’d like them a whole lot more with a different shape at the front. I AM keen on the over sized buckles, though, and the curved heel, which isn’t really shown to best advantage in this particular photo, is rather lovely, too. And they look great on the Net-a-Porter model.

Hmmm, maybe I’ve just talked myself around?

Marni white leather platform pumps

marni white platform pumps Marni white leather platform pumpsAnother slightly strange looking platform sole, and by “slightly strange” I mean “it looks a bit like a rocking chair for your feet”. I’m exaggerating, of course, and I’m sure you wouldn’t actually be able to rock back and forth in these shoes, but hey, wouldn’t it be fun if you could?

Sole aside, these are a pretty standard pair of white pumps, albeit rather nice ones. The other stand-out feature is the heel, which is in two parts, and looks rather like you could pull it apart and then put it back together again. (Note: you can’t, though, so don’t be tempted to try).

These are £380 and you can buy them at Net-a-Porter.
