Isn’t it amazing the difference a splash of bright pink can make to a shoe? These Manolo Blhanik slingbacks would have been pretty enough in black, say, but my eye would possibly have glossed right over them, in search of something a little more attention-getting. In pink, however, they suddenly become something special, and it’s fair to say they grabbed my attention, anyway, with the little bow on the heel being the perfect finishing touch. I also love the fact that the straps are made from grosgrain ribbon – so pretty and feminine!
So, these are… not exactly what we’ve come to expect from Manolo Blahnik, are they? Can’t quite imagine Big proposing to Carrie with one of these bad boys. Still, clogs are very much du jour at the moment, and these are certainly clogs. With flowers on top. Very hippy-ish, a little bit childlike, totally colourful and… $685. Well, they don’t really look like $600 shoes to me, but perhaps they do to you, and if that’s the case, you’ll want to head over to Neiman Marcus and snap them up.
Oh, one other thing before you go: they’re called “Pog”. Yes, “Pog”. Isn’t that brilliant? I think we have our new Word of the Week, folks. I challenge you to use it in a sentence at least one time today…
Before I go any further here, I should probably hold my hands up and admit there’s a good chance I’ve got my Olsen twins mixed up. I often do. I think that’s Ashely on the left, though, and I know those are Manolo Blahnik’s on her feet, so let’s just concentrate on the shoes…
These are Manolo Blahnik’s Hangiski courts, and you may remember the blue version cropping up in the Sex & the City movie, with Big using them to propose to Carrie. I wasn’t crazy about these shoes when they first came out, but I really like this yellow version. I know the Olsen’s come in for a lot of criticism, and their style definitely isn’t to everyone’s taste, but I’ve always liked them too. And I’m sure I’d also like Mary-Kate’s shoes – if I could actually see them…
Look! These boots can levitate! How amazing is that?!
OK, maybe not. They’re still a great pair of boots, though: I, of course, can be relied upon to appreciate the bow at the front and the nude uppers, but I’m also really liking the cap-toe trend that we’ve seen a fair bit of recently, and these are a nice, smart pair of boots that you’d be able to wear to dress up a pair of jeans, or with a skirt or dress, too. They’d look particularly nice peeping out of the bottom of a pair of wide-legged trousers, and the colour should make them very versatile, too.
Sex and the City fans will have instantly recognised the shoes on the right of the image above as the shoes Carrie wears in the movie.
And everyone, SATC fan or not, will have instantly recognised the shoes on the LEFT as more or less exact copies of the Manolo Blahniks, minus that extra bit of Blahnik style. No?
Quite how this one didn’t get Martinez Valero sued is beyond me but the designer-inspired shoes are $164 from Zappos, while the Manolo originals are $945 from Bergdorf Goodman.
