Speaking of the Sarenza Brand Ambassador programme (have you entered the competition to join it yet?), here’s my latest pick from it: and yes, I went for ANOTHER pair of Vivienne Westwood/Melissa Lady Dragons! Well, I did say in my post about the latest collection that I probably wouldn’t be able to resist the pink version, and as they arrived on the Sarenza site at roughly the same time I was given a gift code, that prediction turned out to be a true one!
As those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook may know, I had a bit of trouble with the sizing of these. As something of a Lady Dragon addict, I was pretty sure I knew my size: I’ve had to size down with all of my other Lady Dragons, which, in my case, means going from my usual UK 4 to a size Melissa mark as a 2.5 – 3.5 UK (US 5, Eur 35/35). Those all fit me fine, so I didn’t even think about it when I ordered these, and went for the same size I always wear…
They’re such pretty, pink sparkly things that they really deserve to be worn with some fairytale concoction of a dress: some frothy, frivolous thing that would do the shoes justice. Alas, however, not only does my lifestyle not produce much of a need for fairytale party dresses, I fear the time for bare legs has now passed, so every time I’ve worn these since I got them, it’s been with some boring combination of jeans and tops. Such is life.
I’ve actually worn these a fair bit in the few weeks I’ve owned them, the most recent occasion being this Friday, when I wore them with … jeans and a top. The winter rot has already set in, people. I haven’t even switched over my wardrobe yet, and already I’m bored to death with winter fashion: this does NOT bode well for the rest of the year!
Still, at least I know one thing: I’ll have no problems “saving” these next year, when the warmer weather finally arrives. In the short time I’ve owned them, they’ve quickly become one of my favourite pairs of shoes, so while I didn’t get a chance to wear them with a suitably fabulous outfit this year, there’s always next summer!
And in the meantime, they make some pretty good eye candy!
If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve probably already seen this:
It’s the box containing my latest pair of Sarenza Brand Ambassador shoes. (It’s also Rubin’s Hairy Bone, which has obviously decided it wants to appear in all of my photos fro now on. Weird.) I feel I have to justify it in some way, so let me just say this:
I had been drinking .
OK, that sounded bad, didn’t it?
Let me clarify: Shoeperman and I were having a bit of a movie night at home, and we’d opened a bottle of wine, as you do. So my willpower was significantly lowered, is what I’m trying to tell you.
Before I went to bed, I decided to just have a quick look at the Sarenza website. I had a gift code I still hadn’t used, you see, and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a look, so I loaded up the page, and hit up the “new arrivals” section.
I know, I know: the very LAST thing I needed was another pair of jelly shoes. Or peep toes. Or black shoes in general, really.
BUT.
I had a discount code to use with our site sponsors, Spartoo, and it had been burning a hole in my computer. I hadn’t really seen anything I desperately wanted: I mean, I’d seen plenty of stuff I liked, but my panic about not managing to save all of my shoes by the end of the challenge – and specifically, all of the summer shoes by the end of the summer – had forced me to at least try to be a little more restrained with my purchases.
Then, last week I happened to take a look at the site, and I noticed that these Melissa shoes were on sale, and only available in my size. Well, it would’ve been silly not to, really, wouldn’t it?
I actually hadn’t considered buying the Lady Dragons in black before, but I have to say, I absolutely love them. The main reason I managed to justify these was that I think I’ll be able to get a lot of use out of them in Autumn/Winter as well as in the warmer months: I don’t often wear peep toes with tights, but the peep toe on the Lady Dragons is small and the bottom of the heart actually mostly hides it when you’re wearing them, so I think it could work. And, of course, I’ve seen Fi wear her Lady Dragons with tights before and it always looks fantastic, so I figured I’d give it a go.
Once again, I went down a size with these to get the perfect fit. For some reason, they actually feel even more comfortable to me than the other two pairs I own, but I guess the true test will come when I try to wear them all day!
P.S. Should you want to see some more of these, I’ll have some extra pictures on my Facebook page soon!
WHAT: Vivienne Westwood for Melissa Lady Dragon heart shoes WHEN: Tuesday, June 19th, 2011 WHERE: Out and about WITH: Green dress (Closet); black belt (came free with an ASOS dress)
Did any of you ever see the movie version of Great Expectations starring Gwyneth Paltrow as Estella? One of the things I loved about that movie was the fact that Gwyneth’s character wore green in every single scene of it. Different outfits, of course, and different shades, but always green. Now, I’m not for a second advocating wearing the same colour your whole life long, because that would just be silly, but… I think I’m in danger of it happening to me, because I may as well just hold my hands up and admit that this is one of two green dresses I bought recently. And I have my eye on a third. It’s an addiction, I’m telling you: I see them, and I can’t seem to resist them. I don’t know: there was a time a few years back when I just NEVER seemed to find green clothes at all – maybe now that there’s such an abundance of them, my brain has just decided that I must buy them all now, before it’s too late? Hmmm.
All the talk of the new Vivienne Westwood for Melissa line yesterday inspired me to get out my Lady Dragons in honour of Shoesday today. (I really should be trying to Shoe Challenge these, but I have so much on at the moment that I don’t think I’ll have time – boo!) What I really want to do, however, is to find out what you’re wearing on your feet today, so if you’d like to join in, here’s what you have to do:
1. Take a photo of the shoes you’re wearing today.
3. Link back to Shoeperwoman.com from wherever you’re posting your photo.
4. Leave me a comment (here on the blog – if you comment on Twitter or Facebook, I’ll probably miss it!) with a link to the photo. (If you’re posting a link, please can you make sure that you link back? Thanks!)
Time to start thinking about next year’s shoes, folks…
The Spring/Summer 2011 Vivienne Westwood for Melissa range is now available to pre-order on the Vivienne Westwood website (with some styles available to buy now), and features two variations on the Lady Dragon style: a new selection of colours for the heart shoes, and a brand new style in the shape of the skull shoes shown above, which also come in a range of colours. Want to see some more?
What’s that in the sky, kids? Is that… THE SUN? I could hardly believe it, but it was true, so naturally I spun into action and went straight into “grabbing what might be the only opportunity to wear a sundress this year” mode. I also took the opportunity to wear my new Lady Dragon cherry shoes, which I’ve been wearing around the house ever since they arrived, purely because I love looking down and seeing the little cherries staring back at me. This was their first trip into the outside world, though. I think they liked it. Aw, my little shoes are getting all grown up!
