The Victoriana look never seems to go out of style, and it’s not hard to see why: there’s just something very elegant about this look, isn’t there? These Miss Selfridge lace-front boots are probably going to be one of the more affordable variations on this particular style this winter, at £80, although you may want to set your alarm a few minutes earlier than usual to allow for some “lacing up” time. A big advantage of those laces, however, is the fact that they’ll make the leg-width reasonably adjustable: good news for all of us who struggle to find boots that are the perfect fit for our calves!
For those of you who love brogues, but prefer your shoes to have at least a little bit of a heel on them, Dune’s black and white ‘Maz’ lace-ups offer a particularly dapper looking take on the trend. These are currently on sale for £48, but a couple of sizes are already sold out, so if you like them, you’re going to have to get your skates brogues on.
These have a very 40s feel about them, which may appeal to lovers of retro-style fashion. Click here to buy them.
Oh my. Just look at that silhouette. Just look at that beautiful, purple suede upper. Just look at that… £625 price tag.
No, they will never be mine, but I may just print out their photo and stick it to my fridge or something, so that I can gaze upon their beauty as often as possible.

I’ve been banging on about the approach of winter for weeks now, so I thought I may as well bow to the inevitable and make this week’s Friday Fix a pair of boots.
I know at least one person who loves Christian Louboutin’s Ronfifi Alta 100 buttoned boots, and, actually, better make that two people, because I love them too. The Victoriana feel of the multiple buttons and lace-fronts is just perfect for winter: all you need is a fabulous coat to wear with them… oh, and £1,070.
Anyone else want to add their name to the list of those who love these boots?
This winter, I’ve decided I’m going to be needing a pair of shoe boots. I’d already kind of set my heart on Aldo’s ‘Narain’, but one colour is never enough (no matter how versatile it is), so these lace up faux suede boots from New Look are also looking good – and considerably cheaper, as you’d expect given the textile uppers. No, they probably won’t last too long, especially in wet weather, but I was impressed by the fact that they’re available in navy as well as black: navy boots are still pretty rare, and it’s a colour I wear a lot, so top marks to New Look for that.
Matalan are far from the only brand to have offered up their take on Chloe’s leather lace-up wedge boots from last season, but theirs are one of the cheapest versions I’ve found so far, at just £24.
Of course, the Matalan boot is canvas, not leather, and they’ve used a different colour scheme in order to avoid looking too much like the originals, but the inspiration is still pretty evident. These boots aren’t a style I’d normally go for, and I’d never have paid £480 for them, but I must admit, I could have been tempted by the £24 version, which look like they could make a comfortable, casual alternative to heels for Autumn, IF they hadn’t been in a cream canvas, which would remain cream for, ooh, probably about five seconds at most, if I tried to wear them during a typical British Autumn. Or even summer.
If you’d like to give them a try, however, they’re available here.
I’ve never liked flat lace-ups. They have that masculine kind of look to them (or maybe it’s just the memory of too many pairs of “sensible” school shoes!) that can look fantastic on some people, but is just all wrong for me, so they’re a style I’ve always avoided. I know lots of you love this look, though, and it’s one we’ve been seeing a lot of over the past few months, and will no doubt see even more of in the next few.
ASOS have tried to make these ‘Magnolia’ flats a little more feminine with the addition of the all-over ditsy print. Does the clash of masculine and feminine work here, though? I’m going to let you be the judge of that – I’m far to biased to provide an objective opinion on this one, but if you’re firmly in favour of these, they’re £28 at ASOS.com.
I’ve been hankering for a pair of shoe boots recently, and as if by magic, ASOS.com added these ones to their website yesterday. Sometimes I swear they can read my mind, and figure out just how to tempt me!
As just £35, you’d be struggling to find a more affordable shoe boot than these, and the shape is very classic. I suspect the colour of the boot on the right of the photo above will put some people off and make others fall in love with it (I’m somewhere in between the two), but the patent taupe version is very wearable. I’m drawn to patent at the moment because it tends to be pretty waterproof, and God knows, we need that at the moment!
