Jimmy Choo scalloped lace platform peep toes

jimmy choo scaloped lace pumps Jimmy Choo scalloped lace platform peep toesI’m not a big fan of lace, and, as shocking as this admission will probably be to many of you, I’ve never been a huge fan of Jimmy Choo. I know: shoe blogger who doesn’t go crazy for Choo – who ever heard of such nonsense?

I should probably clarify that by saying that I don’t dislike Jimmy Choo, either: it’s just never been my favourite brand: or not until now, because these shoes could seriously start to change my mind. Look:

They have a 4 3/4″ heel with a small platform, and they’re $995 at Bergdorf Goodman. Well, there had to be some bad news along with the good stuff, didn’t there?

Friday Night Louboutin Fix: Christian Louboutin Exclu 140 lace and satin slingbacks

christian louboutin exclu 100 slingbacks Friday Night Louboutin Fix: Christian Louboutin Exclu 140 lace and satin slingbacks

Because of all the recent bank holidays, it’s been a while since our last Friday Night Louboutin fix. I’m re-starting the tradition this week, however, with the Exclu 100 lace and satin slingbacks, which are £495 at Net-a-Porter. The delicate lace uppers and satin heel and platform here are topped with a cute little bow:

The perfect thing to glance down at every so often while you’re quaffing champagne somewhere fabulous. Well, that’s how I like to imagine wearing them, anyway…

Lace-covered shoes always make me think of Christmas, perhaps because there’s something very “party appropriate” about them – or perhaps just because they’d be a wonderful surprise to find underneath the tree on Christmas morning. And no, I can’t quite believe I’m talking about Christmas either, so on with the shoes…

These are Christian Louboutin’s Fifi 100 pumps, and once again, they’re a great example of how an interesting colour or fabric can make a simple pump look stunning. The temptation here would be to wear them with some kind of party dress, but I’d also be tempted to wear them with something more unexpected, like a well-cut trouser suit – that little bit of lace peeking out the bottom would help soften up the look, and add a touch of sex appeal, too.

Badgley Mischka ‘Olaf’ lace booties

I’ve looked at these boots (sorry, “booties”) numerous times now, and I’ve always held off on writing about them here, because well, they’re peep toe boots, and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how I feel about that.

I think these ones could just succeed in winning me over, though:  I keep picturing them worn with some beat-up denim and a tailored jacket, for a nice contrast between dressy and casual, but they’d be equally effective with something a little more formal. I also think this is one of the few examples of a peep toe boot that would actually be wearable for me, because the lightweight uppers wouldn’t be too warm to wear, thus negating the “if it’s warm enough for a peep toe, it’s too warm for a boot” argument.

What do you think? Are you ready to accept peep toe boots into your life – or closet? If you are, these ones are $200 from Nordstrom: click here to buy them.

‘Pearl’ suede and lace ankle boots from Topshop

These ‘Pearl’ ankle boots from Topshop aren’t the kind of thing I’d usually go for, but I just can’t help loving them. The combination of the lace ankle insert and floral ankle embellishment is just so pretty, and the colour also gives these a bit of a vintage feel, although the shape is very modern. The one thing I’m not convinced by is the drawstring around the ankle, which I feel might make these look like very beautiful sacks tied around the legs, but I’d definitely be willing to try them on to find out.

Want to try them too? They’re £100 at Topshop.

Rene Caovilla satin and lace pom-pom sandals

That beaded heel is pretty spectacular, although it’s much less obvious than some of the other embellished heels we see from the likes of Miu Miu and Prada. The detail is carried through to the platform sole, which is topped off by a lace upper, complete with flower. Beautiful but pricey, these are £1,039 at Far Fetch.

Lace peep-toe shoes from Dorothy Perkins

The lace look has been around for a couple of seasons now, but it doesn’t look like it’s going out of fashion anytime soon. These shoes are one of two different lace styles carried by Dorothy Perkins at the moment – the others have platform soles, but as we see a lot of platforms at the moment, I thought I’d break with tradition and show you the “normal” soled versions instead. Hey, remember when ALL shoes used to have soles like this? I’m so used to always wearing some kind of platform now that when I put on shoes that don’t have one, the heels feel really low, and a bit strange, although it has to be said that they certainly don’t look that way.

I think these shoes are a really nice way to work the lace trend. They’re not too over the top, they’re very pretty and feminine, and they’re simple enough that they won’t go out of fashion, even when lace has had its moment in the spotlight. They’re £35 and they’re available here.

Valentino lace platform pumps

Lace has never been my favourite fabric, on either clothes or shoes, but I think I could be persuaded by these Valentino platforms, which are £520 at Net-a-Porter. These use two different types of lace  – one on the platform and one on the uppers – and although the 1.5″ sole is as chunky as it gets without veering wildly into “stripper” territory, the shoes still retain an elegant shape, and a ladylike look. Subtly sexy for evening, just make sure you look out for that 5.5″ heel!
