I love Badgley Mischka. I know I say that pretty much every time I write about them, but it’s true. And these shoes are a great example of why I love them so much. On paper, they’re just a standard bow-fronted pump, and it’s not like we’ve never seen that done eleventy-one million times before, is it?
In reality, however, these are just so much better than the words “bow front pumps” suggest. The contrasting colour of the bow and toe, which makes it look like a giant ribbon has been tied around the toe, is a really nice touch, and the soft grey suede makes me want to use the word lush to describe it. So I will. These are lush. And lovely. And also available in black. And $215. Click here to buy a pair.
Well, they’re not the red version I declared to be Shoe Kryptonite last month, but they WERE on sale, and they HAD been on my wish list for the best part of a year, so when Kurt Geiger reduced their grey ‘Minnie’ pumps to £45 in the sale, I figured it would be silly not to grab a pair!
These actually went on sale a just a couple of days before I went on holiday, and I was a bit disappointed, assuming they’d have sold out long before I got back. One of the things I love about Kurt Geiger, however, is the fact that their stock seems to stick around much longer than some other high street stores I could mention (*cough* Zara *cough*) , in which you have to either buy the thing the second you see it, or resign yourself to trawling eBay for it for the rest of your life. This is why I have some confidence that the red version of these shoes will still be around when I can justify buying them, although by saying that, I’ve probably just guaranteed that they’ll be sold out by tomorrow.
I love the contrast of the grey felt uppers and suede bows on these. Those fabrics do make them feel rather “wintry” to me, though, so I’ll be waiting until the cooler weather kicks in to “save” these – after last year’s Shoe Challenge I’m determined to wear my summer shoes while I have the opportunity!
These are still available at the sale price of £45: click here to become my shoe twin!
I saw the grey version of these shoes first, and was instantly won over by them. Then I found the red version and, well, it was like Christmas all over again. I mean, what’s not to love about these? They have such a lot of character I almost feel like, if I owned a pair, I’d have to give them a name (other than ‘Sindy’, obviously: they just don’t look like Sindys to me, somehow…), and maybe spend a bit of time each day chatting to them or something. I think it’s the bow that does it: a bow like that just can’t help but make me smile at it:
So cute. So added to my wishlist – in both colours. And I really like the chunky shape of these too – pretty shoes that should be reasonably comfortable: what more could we wish for?
They’re a different colour, and they have a slightly higher heel, but other than that, these shoes are pretty much identical to a pair Office brought out last year. Remember them?
The biggest difference here, however, is the price: the Office shoes retailed for £60, whereas the Modcloth versions are just $37,99, which is an absolute bargain, and makes me want to yell, “QUICK, PEOPLE! GET THEM! GET THEM BEFORE THEY’RE GONE!”
Have you got them yet?
If you’ve tried to get them, you’ll probably have noticed they’re already sold out in some sizes – or possibly in all sizes, depending on when you’re reading this, and how good your fellow readers were at obeying my ALL CAPS shouty direction above. If your size is gone, I’m sorry, I did my best to warn you. If it isn’t, though, click here to claim your prize…
Remember the Christian Louboutin ‘Bianca’ platforms I featured as a Friday Fix a few weeks ago? I had a feeling that if I waited long enough, Steve Madden would come along with a cheaper alternative, and here they are: his Caryssa platforms are available in four different colours, including the grey flannel shown above, which is my favourite. (The nude patent version is in second place, naturally.)
I don’t think it would be fair to accuse Madden of copying this time, because Louboutin was hardly the first designer to come up with the idea of a grey flannel platform (although I’d still argue he’s the one who’s done it best), so I’ll let him off the hook just this once, and simply let you know that these are down to just $89 at Piperlime: click here to buy them.
I know, I know… But seriously: it was pretty obvious I was going to be getting more of these, wasn’t it?
I’d actually gone into the store with my heart set on finding a red pair, but they didn’t have any: not even a pair of size 9s that I could’ve wept over, thinking, “so near, but so far!” I was almost able to say exactly the same thing about these ones, too, though: they were the only pair of size 4s in the store, and naturally I found them only after picking up and examining every single other pair they had. When I finally unearthed these ones, I rushed them to the till… only for the sales girl to notice that I had one size four and one size 5. It’s a good job she did notice too, because, well, let’s just say it wouldn’t have been the first time I’d walked out of a store with two differently sized shoes.
Anyway, I’d love to be able to say I’ve had my fill of Miss Selfridge’s platform bow shoes now, but I think you all know me well enough by now to know I’ll probably continue to stalk the red ones indefinitely. Click here if you want to join me, or here if you fancy a pair of the grey ones.
As you may have seen from last week’s Louboutin fix, I’m really loving the idea of grey flannel for Fall. If the heel’s on those Loubs were too high for your tastes, however, Kate Spade’s ‘Bertie’ peep toes come with a more modestly sized heel which, combined with the small platform, should make them even easier to walk on. The grey flannel uppers are topped with a large flower embellishment, and if you’re thinking the peep toe isn’t too practical for the coming season, well, you can always consider wearing them with tights.
These cost $340 and are also available with black suede uppers. Click here to buy them from Zappos.
I give a happy little sigh every time I look at these shoes. They’re just perfect for Autumn, with the classic Louboutin platform shape topped with a lovely grey flannel upper. These have a 5.5″ heel and 1″ platform, so they’re definitely not for walking long distances in, but they have a beautiful simplicity to them that may well make up for that.
