Giuseppe Zanotti green glitter toe cap ballet flats

    by

giuseppe zanotti green ballet flats Giuseppe Zanotti green glitter toe cap ballet flatsGiuseppe Zanotti is best known for his stiletto heels, but he does make other types of shoes, too, from time to time, including that old classic, the toe-cap ballet flat. If you were expecting Zanottis ballet flats to be as classic and – let’s just say it – boring as the rest of the genre (or most of it, anyway), you can think again. Well, it wouldn’t be like Zanotti to make an ordinary shoe, now, would it?

Nope, these have been doused in a huge dose of emerald green glitter, and then dipped in the gold version of the stuff for good measure. The effect is oddly Christmassy for me: I know I’ve talked a lot about green and gold, and my enduring love for that particular colour combination, but I think this is a little bit too much, even for me. For some reason, I’m imagining Santa’s (female) elves wearing these. Is that just me?

As I’ve also mentioned once or twice or a thousand-and-eleven times, I refuse to pay more than around £20 for ballet flats (and normally much less than that, if the truth be told), so the thought of paying £300 for these ones makes me feel almost as green as they are. If that sounds just fine to you, however, you can click here to buy them direct from the designer.

Oasis ‘Anella’ gold glitter ballet flats

Oh heels, glitter can look a little bit over the top, if you’re not careful. (Although it can also look fabulous, depending on the shoe.) On a pair of flats, however, it can be a great way to make what can be a rather boring style look a whole lot more interesting, and Oasis have added to that effect on these ‘Anella’ flats by adding a tulle corsage to the toe. The result is a very pretty flat which would be great for special occasions, but could look just a good with a simple pair of jeans.

These are £25: click here to buy them.

I know glitter-covered shoes are becoming an increasingly common sight, both on the pages of this blog, and in real life, but there’s always room for one more pair, as far as I’m concerned, which is why I decided to kick off Monday morning with these shiny gold peep toes from Dorothy Perkins.

These are much more ‘Friday night’ than ‘Monday morning’, but hey, whatever gets you through the working week, right?

These are £36: click here to buy them.

Silver glitter court shoes from Zara

It’s been, ooh, at least a week since I last showed you a pair of glitter shoes, so here’s a pair of pointy (yes, pointy: I know you hate them, but they’re back with a vengeance, so I’m wondering if we’ll all go through that process of getting used to them again, until we’ve come full-circle and are back to finding the pointy toes completely normal again?) toed ones from Zara.

Now, these shoes have taken a really serious beating from the glitter stick, which I think makes them look just a little “costume party”-esque. Still, they’ve very shiny, and that may well appeal to the magpies amongst you.

Does it, though? Click here if you answered “yes” - these are £69.99 at Zara.

Bronze glitter platform heels and ballet flats from Miss Selfridge

Time for your daily dose of glitter, readers…

This time I’m not even going to apologise for bringing you even more of the shiny stuff, because of all of the many, many pairs of glitter-covered shoes we’ve looked at so far, these are the only ones I can actually imagine buying. (I love Kurt Geiger’s ‘Jasmine’, but I don’t love the £100 price tag: I’m  more likely to pay that kind of price for shoes I know I’ll wear all the time, rather than ones I’ll only wear on special occasions) I’m drawn to these mostly by the fact that the glitter has been done fairly subtly: each piece is of a uniform size and shape, and rather than that slightly bumpy, “I totally just glued this on myself!” look you can get with glitter shoes, it forms a totally even surface, so the effect is one of shine and texture, without tackiness.

The more I look at these, the more I start to convince myself to add them to my Shoe Wish List, so before that happens, lets just take a quick look at their little sisters:

Marc Jacobs gold glitter Isolde court shoes

marc jacobs isolde court shoes Marc Jacobs gold glitter Isolde court shoesDespite the rather “old fashioned” shape of these shoes, they’re actually very much in-fashion right now: the kitten heel, the ladylike vamp which is the perfect shape for some of the 50s-style skirts and generally “dressed up” styles that are around at the moment. In fact, take off the glitter and you could totally imagine them on the feet of someone like Jackie Kenedy, worn with a boxy little Chanel jacket and a tweed skirt. The glitter, however, can’t be ignored (and probably isn’t something Jackie O would’ve worn, let’s face it), and help turn these into serious party shoes: albeit very chic ones!

These are £355 and are exclusive to Selfridges -  click here to buy them.

These shoes are here pretty much just for the laughs. I mean, lookit! They’re like clown shoes for high-heel lovers! They do make me smile, though, even although I can’t imagine a single situation in which I’d want to wear them, costume parties aside.

Look, they come in white, too:

They’re slightly less gigglesome in this colour, so if you want  to buy them, why all you have to do is click here and be ready to hand over £88.

    Would you wear them?

Patrick Cox red glitter Dorothy shoes

patrick cox red dorothy shoes Patrick Cox red glitter Dorothy shoesMr Cox, sir? Dorothy called. She wanted to know if she could have her shoes back, yet…

Seriously, though, I love these. Sure, they’re whimsical, and OTT, and look more like a doll’s shoe than one designed for a real, live woman, but what the hell: it’s escapism you can wear, and I’m all for that.

I found these at the Patrick Cox website, where you’ll find details of stockists.
