Red gingham slingback shoes from Modcloth

gingham shoes Red gingham slingback shoes from Modcloth

These shoes are called the “In Season Heel”, which is a little bit ironic considering how very OUT of season they are at this time of year. (Well, they’re out of season here, at least: I know some of you are lucky enough to be heading into summer right now. I will try not to hate you too much…)

In season or not, however, I just had to show you them, because not only were they practically shouting out “Shoeperwoman! Notice us!”, they also make me think of summer days, picnics, sun-filled meadows: you get the picture. I love them, and would wear them to death, given the right weather: luckily they’re only $50, so I wouldn’t have to feel too guilty about it, either!

New Shoes # 72: Schuh ‘Garda’ gingham wedges

I mentioned recently that I’d probably be buying Shoeperwoman.com some new shoes to celebrate its second blog birthday, and here they are: Schuh’s ‘Garada’ wedges! And given that Shoeperwoman.com is actually a website and doesn’t have any feet, it looks like I’ll just have to wear these for it: ah, well!

I loved these shoes as soon as I laid eyes on them, but they were pretty expensive for a pair of canvas wedges, so I must admit that when I placed the order last week, I wasn’t totally sure whether I’d be able to justify keeping them or not. As soon as I opened the box, though, I knew these shoes would be going nowhere (unless they were going on my feet, obviously), because the photos don’t do justice to them, and in real life they’re even prettier than I’d expected: the perfect summer shoes, basically!

I ordered my usual size, which are a good fit, although the toe is fairly narrow, so if you have wide feet, you may need to go up a size in these. Other than that, they seem pretty comfortable, although so far I’ve only worn them to try them on, so I guess I’ll find out how comfortable they REALLY are when I actually try wearing them all day.

Welcome to the shoe shelves, pair number 72! Well, I did say there would be more red fabric wedges, didn’t I?

Castaner ‘Manila’ gingham peep toe slingbacks

If I’m not really careful, I could end up going totally overboard on gingham during the warmer months of the year. It’s the quintessential summer print, isn’t it? And sure, you could argue that the reason for that is its resemblance to a picnic basket, but I’d simply remind you of gingham capri pants, little summer dresses, pretty headscarves… I could go on. There’s just something very retro about it, and that, of course, is exactly why it’s such a Shoeperwoman favourite.

These Castaner shoes are a great example of the print in action. They have a 4.7 inch heel offset by a high platform, and the fabric uppers are topped with a pretty little brooch to finish the look off. They’d be perfect with the aforementioned capri pants and sundresses (although maybe not gingham ones – you can have too much of a good thing sometimes!), and will also add a fun touch to jeans or shorts.

These are a little bit on the pricey side at £216, so I guess it’s a good thing that the style never really goes out of fashion!

‘Schuh’ Kryptonite: Red gingham ‘Garda’ wedges

I thought I was going to be able to resist these shoes. I mean, sure, that gingham print is almost too cute for words, and absolutely perfect for a retro/50s style summer look. And they’re red. And would go with almost everything I own.

But they’re £70. And that’s rather a lot of money for a pair of fabric wedges, so I was all set to resist. Then I saw this photo:

It’s no use, I’m a lost cause. I’m going to covet these shoes until I either crack and buy them, or until they totally sell out in my size, and I’m forced to spend the rest of my life searching eBay for them. I may as well go and get started with that now.

If you, meanwhile, want to save yourself the hassle and just buy the things, you can click here to do it.

Friday Night Louboutin Fix: Christian Louboutin 140 Canvas Greissimo Peep Vichy Pumps

christian louboutin gingham peep toes Friday Night Louboutin Fix: Christian Louboutin 140 Canvas Greissimo Peep Vichy PumpsHow much do I want these shoes? SO much. That’s how much. I mean, just imagine how great they’d be for summer? I’m picturing them with a simple pair of jeans and capris and a 50s-style knot-front shirt, but they’d be so much fun to style with other items too, and despite being very eye-catching (and also very “Summer 2011″, with lots of designers sending this kind of kitsch-but-cute style down their runways for summer), the print is also timeless enough to allow you to get lots of wear out of them – good thing, given that they’re £486!

Dune ‘Medina O’ gingham peep toes

Did you know Dune had an online outlet store?

It’s the place they send all of their past-season stock when the new season rolls around, and it’s the reason I’m showing you these rather summery looking check peep toes right at the start of Autumn. As you’d expect from an outlet, they don’t have every size in stock, but what they do have is on permanent sale, so it’s a great opportunity to grab a bargain which you can always tuck away until next year if you have to. (There are lots of last year’s boots there, too, though, so it’s not just an opportunity for out-of-season shopping).

These shoes are still available in a good range of sizes, and are down to £42.50 from the original £85. Click here to buy them.

Office ‘Real High’ platform peep toes in gingham

office gingham platforms Office Real High platform peep toes in ginghamI love gingham: not only does it have a super-summery feel to it that always makes me think of picnics in the park, it also has a bit of a rockabilly vibe to it, which appeals to my love of all things (Well, ALMOST all things) retro.

Office’s ‘Real High’ platforms are a great use of this print, with the high heel and platform (as the name suggests, these are indeed ‘real high’, with a 5″ heel and 1″ platform) stopping them looking too cutesy, they’re also a ‘real bargain’, assuming that you wear one the sizes still available, because they’re now reduced to just £20. Just in time for summer, too!

Customised retro peep toe shoes: ‘Picnic Basket’ by Shoe Missy

shoe missy peep toes Customised retro peep toe shoes: Picnic Basket by Shoe MissyAs I’m sure my friends at The Fashion Police will confirm, I’m a big fan of anything that can be even vaguely described as “retro”. So Shoe Missy, who customises shoes in a “pin up girl” style, is right up my street, then.

These ‘Picnic Basket’ peep toes are absolutely adorable, with their over sized gingham bows and pale blue uppers. So adorable, in fact, that they’re sold out at the Shoe Missy website. Don’t despair, though, because I managed to track them down to Pin-Up Parade, who are stockists of the brand, as well as selling a range of retro-style clothes which have me drooling every time I look at them. Enjoy! (And don’t blame me if your credit card ends up taking a severe beating…)
