Celebrity Shoe Spotting: Alexandra Richards in Chanel’s flower-front wooden platforms S/S 2010

DSC 0724 Celebrity Shoe Spotting: Alexandra Richards in Chanels flower front wooden platforms S/S 2010

I must admit, I wouldn’t recognise Alexandra Richards if she fell on me (she’s the daughter of Keith Richards, if you were similarly in the dark), but I DID recognise the shoes she wore to the Tribeca Film Festival Dinner last night – although given that the evening was hosted by Chanel, it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that so many of the guests were dressed in the brand!

These are the flower-front wooden platforms from the S/S 2010 collection,  and I’m guessing they were borrowed for the occasion, as are so many of the shoes we see on the red carpet,  which would account for the gape at the back of the heel. It must be so frustrating to get to wear fabulous shoes for free, only to find that they’re ALWAYS the wrong size, but ah well, first world problems…

What does everyone think of these? Take a look under the jump to see what Alexandra wore with them.

flowerboing Flowerboing ankle wrap sandals by Rene Caovilla

I think ‘Flowerboing’ is going to be my Word of the Week. Flowerboing. It’s great, isn’t it? I am a little confused by it, though: I mean, obviously I can see where the “flower” part comes from, but the “boing”? Is it because the ankle strap looks like a spring? I have no idea, and I suspect I’ve probably spent too long thinking about it, so let’s look at the shoes, shall we?

These shoes are actually hard NOT to look at. They have more flowers on them than I’ve ever seen on a piece of footwear, and that’s a couple of dozen flowers too many for me, although I might change my mind if I were to see them on a foot. These are super-expensive at $1,195, but it does look like a lot of work has gone into creating them. Does that justify the price, do you think? If so, get them at Bergdorf Goodman.

monsoon anthea shoes Purple satin Anthea peep toes from MonsoonAren’t these the sweetest little evening shoes? Sure, the satin uppers give them a bit of a “bridesmaid” feel, and they’d be just perfect for that, but the gorgeous purple colour and little flower embellishment means they’d be also perfect for just about anything you have to get a little bit dressed up for: and if you don’t have an excuse to get dressed up, just throw them on with a pair of jeans or trousers, and watch a casual outfit get instantly smarter!

Tempted? If you are, these are £55 from Monsoon.

Steve Madden ‘Fauntain’ rope soled wedges

Even although I’m currently on the hunt for a pair of comfortable, casual wedges to take on holiday with me this summer, I probably wouldn’t have given Steve Madden’s ‘Fauntain’ a second look, were it not for the photo of them being worn, which proved that the “natural” colour could just  be the perfect nude to match my pale legs!

When it comes to canvas wedges, I’m looking for something super-versatile that won’t weigh down my suitcase, and will work with every item of clothing inside it. So far, these fit the bill, and the fact that they have a pretty little flower on the front is just the icing on the, er, shoe.

If nude shoes aren’t for you, these come in six other colours, too. They’re $99.95 at Steve Madden.

Kurt Geiger ‘Gen’ large flower sandals

kurt geiger flower sandals Kurt Geiger Gen large flower sandalsI think these shoes would definitely win the Biggest Footwear Flower of the Year Award for 2010 – if, of course, such an award existed. (And let’s face it, it totally should.)

These shoes are strictly for those of you who take a “the bigger, the better” approach to embellishments on shoes. Well, when the embellishment’s so big it completely obscures the vamp of the shoe, you know you have a big ‘un on your hands – or on your feet, in this case.

What does everyone think of these? I don’t think they’d be the easiest shoes to pull off, because as well as making your feet look huge, they’re also so flamboyant you’d have to be careful what you paired them with, and allow the shoes to be the focal point of the outfit. What would you wear them with? If you’re just brimming with ideas in answer to that question, first of all, please share them with the rest of us, and secondly, head over to Kurt Geiger, where you can buy the shoes for £260.

Not only do these shoes have a flower on the ankle strap, they also have a branch for a heel, making them look like some kind of strange organic growth, rather than a man-made shoe. This is a look we’ve been seeing a fair bit of in shoe design over the past couple of seasons, and I’m still on the fence about it. On the one hand, I like the fact that shoes like this are that little bit unusual, but on the other hand, I don’t actually think the branch-effect is particularly pleasing to look at. What do you think?

What I do love about these shoes is the colour: they’re also available in tan, but this vibrant red is the one that would win my heart. These are $895 at Saks.

Flower embellished thong sandals from River Island

flower embellished thong sa Flower embellished thong sandals from River IslandYou know Spring is on its way (And THANK GOD for that, I say!) when every second shoe you see has a great big flower attached to it somewhere.

These thong sandals are from River Island, and are reminiscent of similar styles by likes of Giuseppe Zannoti from a couple of years back. The frugal part of me says that if you really wanted to get this look, it would be simple enough to buy a fabric flower (You can usually find them attached to hair bands in places like Claire’s Accessories, or, indeed, the accessories section of most high street stores) and stick them onto a pair of flip flops yourself. The lazy part of me, on the other hand, says “True, but if you can’t be bothered doing that, you can just buy these ones for £29.99 at River Island.”

Irregular Choice blue Antique Rose heels with sequins

irregular choice antique ro Irregular Choice blue Antique Rose heels with sequinsErin bought herself a pair of these Irregular Choice shoes while she was in the UK last month, and I’m totally envious, because I think these are absolutely gorgeous! That extravagant, sequined flower on the front is the obvious talking point here, but I also really love the colour of these shoes. There’s something very decadent about them, too, which is Irregular Choice at its very best.

These are currently down to £40 in the Schuh sale, but they’re low in stock, so if you want to grab a pair, you might want to do it fast…
