Shoe Deja Vu: Charles by Charles David ‘Delightful’ Vs Carvela ‘Kuchina’

I might have rather liked Charles by Charles David’s ‘Delightful’ wedges – in fact, I might even have found them delightful … until, that is, I noticed their resemblance to Carvela’s Kuchina, from last summer.

As usual with these Shoe Deja Vus, it’s the idea of the shoe that’s similar, rather than the execution: the Charles David shoes have a cork wedge rather than a leather one, a full heel rather than a slingback, and pink trim rather than gold. It’s all of these details, however, which, when seen side-by-side with their older sisters, makes the Carvela shoes look so much better to me, and as there’s not a huge difference in the price (the Charles David shoes are $174.99 at Heels.com, while the Carvelas are down to £120 (about $189) at Sarenza), those are the ones I’d probably go for.

KENZO Allegra Nepeta green floral sandals

kenzo green floral sandals KENZO Allegra Nepeta green floral sandals

Today I’m taking a mental leap forward to Spring by showing you these pretty floral sandals by Kenzo. We’re still a good few months away from the kind of weather that would make these wearable for me, more’s the pity, but that’s not going to stop me looking at them, and thinking about how and when I’d wear them: ideally on the terrace of some sun-drenched villa, with a glass of champagne in my hand. And a box of new shoes at my feet. Lots of them. Wait, I’m getting carried away here…

These are the quintessential Spring shoes, with their fresh, flora uppers, and the fact that green just so happens to be one of my favourite colours is just a coincidence, I swear.

Like them? They’re £229.50 and you can click here to buy them from Sarenza.

Floral platform wedge sandals from New Look

new look floral print wedges Floral platform wedge sandals from New Look

For a £24.99 sandal, these New Look wedges have a lot going for them, no? The first thing to catch the eye, of course, is that floral tie, which carries the print through from the sole, to wind around the ankle in an extravagant bow. As I’ve said in the past, I’m particularly fond of shoes that use ribbons or scarves rather than laces – these ones immediately reminded me the Pierre Hardy for Gap wedges from last year, although when you view them side-by-side, they look nothing alike. They have that same, feminine feel to them, though, and I also really like the t-strap uppers on these ones, which will help them feel a little more secure on your feet.

Purple floral print platform peep toes from River Island

floral print shoes Purple floral print platform peep toes from River IslandYou just can’t avoid floral print as this time of year, so you may as well embrace it, as far as I’m concerned. These floral peep toes are from River Island, and are anything but demure, what with that 6″ heel and giant platform: skyscrapers, indeed!

I really like the purple background on these shoes: it’s fresh, and a little different, and it works perfectly with the red and white flowers.

These are £59.99: click here to buy them.

Rocket Dog ‘Orchard’ beige bow slingbacks

Here’s a sweet and summery pair of slingbacks (OK, I’ll stop the alliteration now) in a cool canvas (or maybe not) upper.

The unassuming colour of these shoes means that they’d be super-versatile, and the fact that the heel is “only” 3.5 inches, which is a little smaller than my usual offerings here, will make them reasonably easy to walk in – or at least, I hope so!

I know the person wearing these would be the only person to see this, but I’m also a complete sucker for the floral insole:

These are the little details that help make a shoe that little bit more special, I think, and Rocket Dog are particularly keen on this kind of attention to detail (see also Betsey Johnson, Irregular Choice). If the beige is putting you off, however, here’s a similar style from the same brand, with a much more colourful upper:

Nothing says “summer” quite like floral print, does it?

These shoes are £50 each, and available at Spartoo.

Dolce & Gabbana Floral Print Charmeuse Pump

dolce gabbana floral pumps Dolce & Gabbana Floral Print Charmeuse PumpDolce & Gabbana’s SS 2011 runway show was one of my favourites of the season: it was just packed full of summery florals and other retro goodness, and I couldn’t be happier to see some of the pieces start to become available to buy. These floral print pumps are a case in point: while they don’t have the vibrancy of some floral prints, they’re still pretty and feminine, and the colours should prove easy to style. The pump itself, meanwhile, has such a classic shape that it’s the kind of thing you’ll have in your closet for years, and be able to wear with endless combinations of clothing.

These are $695 – click here to buy them from Neiman Marcus.

Schuh floral print slingbacks with rose detail

schuh floral slingback shoes Schuh floral print slingbacks with rose detailI tend to think of florals as a very summery kind of print, but I think these floral slingbacks from Schuh would be equally appropriate for this time of year too: the black background makes them feel a little more wintery, and, of course, the rose detail on the toe is a party-perfect touch.

I’d actually be tempted to try these with black opaques as well as with bare feet, for a slightly warmer alternative.

These are £59.99 – click here to buy them.

Pink floral tie clogs from Miss Selfridge

miss selfridge clogs Pink floral tie clogs from Miss SelfridgeI’ve been firmly on the fence about the clog trend that’s been… well, “sweeping” would probably be too strong a word here, so let’s just say creeping through the world of fashion this season. Traditional, low-heeled clogs just don’t do it for me, but I’m not adverse to some of the high heeled versions, and actually have fond memories of a pair of black heeled clogs (with peep toes, natch.) which I wore to death a few years ago, and which were one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I ever owned. They were from Barratts. I really miss them.

Anyway! Where was I? Oh yes, these pink sandals from Miss Selfridge, which are being described as “clogs” on account of the wooden heels/soles and the rivets on the platform. I’m not even a little bit on the fence about these: in fact, I’ve climbed right over the fence, and I’m sitting in the Pink Clog Camp. And guess what I’m wearing on my feet? Yup, I really like these, from the pale pink colour, which will help to perform the illusion of elongation on the leg, to the cute little floral print bows, which just scream “summer”.

These are £45, and they’re available at Miss Selfridge. What do you think?
